Stella Yeung shared thisFantastic morning this past Wednesday! …as I was deeply honoured to receive the Toronto ORBIE Leadership Award. It was a special pleasure to receive the award from Kyle McNamara, which was then followed by a fireside discussion on leadership with Ranji Narine, two Scotiabank alumni I was delighted to meet at this event. Shout-out as well to Ali Razavi! This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes from a community of technology leaders I deeply respect. A sincere thank you to Scotiabank and the many leaders, past and current, who create the environment for me and for others to excel. Special call-out to Tim Clark for his belief in what our teams can do, and to my colleagues across ScotiaTech and my Global Corporate Functions technology team — this award belongs to all of us. It's a privilege to build alongside an organization that invests in its people and leaders, and gives us room to do ambitious work. When I reflect on my career, I don't think first about technology, transformations, or awards. I think about people. The mentors, colleagues, and teams who trusted me, challenged me, supported me, and helped shape the leader I am today. For that, I am deeply grateful. I've always believed that leadership starts with trust. Trust enables innovation, growth, inclusion, and ultimately, great teams. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. While I'm grateful for this recognition, what I'm most excited about is continuing to support and develop the next generation of leaders. #ORBIEAwards #LeadershipStartsWithTrust #TechnologyLeadership Inci Akpinar Sebastian Blandizzi Jonathan Echeverria Luis Alfredo G. Stella Yeung shared thisLast week, I had the privilege of sitting down with leaders from our Global Finance Technology team for an Ask Me Anything, and we all walked away energized. The conversation was thoughtful, candid, and focused on what matters most: continuing to develop our scalable operating model, evolving our global support capabilities, and delivering meaningful outcomes for the Bank while investing in the talent that makes those outcomes possible. These are the discussions that move organizations forward. The calibre of thinking, engagement, and leadership in the room reaffirmed that technology, talent, and strong business partnership must remain at the heart of every transformation. I've said it before: leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about creating the conditions for great people to do their best work, challenging ourselves to think bigger, and empowering others to lead. Thank you to everyone who joined the discussion and shared your perspectives so openly. I left the conversation optimistic about what we can achieve together and excited about the opportunities ahead. Anthony Kwan Dijesh Vora Abdul Faheem Mohammed Mehak S. Stella Yeung shared thisI grew up in Hong Kong and, whenever I go back, I try to get together with friends around a Mah Jong table. When I was there on vacation, I realized just how many of the lessons I learned have carried over into leadership and technology transformation. In the West, we often use chess as the metaphor for strategy. Chess is elegant, but it assumes there are two players and one objective: defeat your opponent. Most organizations don't work that way. Technology leaders operate in a world of multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, incomplete information, and long-term relationships. It's often less like chess and more like Mah Jong. At a Mah Jong table, there are four players. Today's competitor may be tomorrow's ally. Sometimes the best move isn't the one that maximizes your own hand. Sometimes it's the one that prevents a stronger player from running away with the game. The same is true in leadership. The situation changes fluidly, and the stakeholders are multiple. I've learned that successful transformations are rarely about winning every argument, securing every dollar of budget, or proving you're right. They are about building coalitions, aligning interests, and understanding that progress often requires compromise. And sometimes you have to lose a hand to win the game. Some of the most important decisions in my career involved supporting another leader's initiative, stepping back so they could step forward, or accepting a short-term setback in pursuit of a larger strategic outcome. That's not losing. That's leadership. Technology transformation is ultimately a people business. The most successful leaders understand that relationships, trust, and shared outcomes matter more than individual victories. The tiles change. The players change. The hand you're given is never perfect. But if you learn to read the table, build relationships, and play the long game, remarkable things can happen. #Leadership #TechnologyLeadership #DigitalTransformation #Management #MahJong #PeopleFirstLeadership

Stella Yeung posted thisThis week, many of us in Toronto stepped outside and immediately noticed something unusual. The skyline was obscured. The air looked different – dull orange. Activities were cancelled. Conversations shifted. Smoke from wildfires pushed Toronto's air quality to among the worst in the world and reminded us of something we normally take for granted – how much we rely on clean air. It struck me that organizations have their own version of clean air. We tend to focus on the visible things: projects, budgets, milestones, and results. But the factors that most influence performance are often invisible. Trust. Culture. Relationships. Psychological safety. Clarity of purpose. When these are present, nobody talks about them. Work simply happens. Teams collaborate. Problems get solved. We only notice their importance when they begin to disappear. The wildfires affecting our communities are a reminder that some of the things we depend on most are easy to overlook because they quietly support everything else. Leadership is not only about delivering outcomes. It is about maintaining the conditions that make those outcomes possible. The things people cannot see are often the things that matter most.

Stella Yeung shared thisFor most of my career, I was one of only a few women engineering leaders at the table. Those rooms have changed — not as quickly as we'd like, but because women before me created space, and those beside me are holding it open. From trade floors in Germany to finance systems in Hong Kong to the platforms we run in Toronto, the throughline has been the same: engineering shapes the world. How money moves. How risk is managed. How millions of people experience their bank every day. There's no good reason for half the talent pool to be missing from that work. To the women engineers earlier in their careers: your voice in the room matters...especially on the days it feels easiest to stay quiet. Keep going. To those still deciding: engineering is one of the most creative, consequential careers available to you. Don't let anyone tell you it isn't yours. Grateful to work at #Scotiabank — where engineering excellence and inclusion aren't slogans, but sustained commitments. #INWED2026 #WomenInEngineering https://lnkd.in/gw7HuKz7International Women in Engineering Day celebrates the talent of women engineersInternational Women in Engineering Day celebrates the talent of women engineers

Stella Yeung shared thisSustaining performance starts with wellbeing. With Global Wellness Day having flown past on June 13th, it’s a timely reminder that performance, at both an individual and organizational level, is not just about pace, but sustainability. In many leadership roles, there is a natural bias toward constant motion: delivering, responding and moving to the next priority. Over time, that intensity can become the norm. But without deliberate attention to wellbeing, it’s not a model that holds. Take time out occasionally to go mentally to your “happy place” – manage your energy. The most effective teams I’ve seen are those where energy is managed as carefully as outcome, where space to reset, reflect, and recover is not treated as an exception, but as part of how high performance is sustained. As leaders, we play a key role in shaping that environment. Not only in what we say, but in what we normalize through our own choices. A useful moment this week to reflect: are we building teams that can perform today and still be at their best six months from now?

Stella Yeung shared thisI’m pressing pause (for all the right reasons). After a busy year, I’m about to take some time away, heading back to Hong Kong for vacation, a place that will always feel like home. In the middle of packed calendars and constant momentum, it’s easy to keep pushing forward without stopping to recharge. But I’ve come to really value the role that proper downtime plays, not just in switching off, but in creating space to think, reconnect, and reset. This trip feels especially meaningful. It’s a chance to spend time with old friends, revisit the places that shaped me, and reconnect with a different rhythm. One that reminds me why stepping back can be just as important as leaning in. I’m looking forward to returning refreshed, re-energized, and ready for what’s ahead. I hope you all find time to take a pause and recharge this summer, balance is so important and just massively improves your overall performance. Until then… signing off (and switching off) for a little while.

Stella Yeung shared thisCelebrating the richness of Asian culture across our organisation, I joined Anil Mohan, Devon Lacombe, and Gaurav Singh as a speaker at Confluence - Celebrating Asian Heritage Month, where the South Asian Network (SAN) and East Asian Network (EAN) Employee Resource Groups came together for a truly special event: a vibrant festival of music, dance, and meaningful dialogue that celebrated the richness and diversity of Asian culture across our organization. From a stunning cultural talent and fashion showcase to moments of genuine connection and conversation, it was a powerful reminder of what happens when communities come together with intention and pride. A huge thank you to the SAN and EAN teams for the invitation and for putting together such an incredible event. These are the moments that turn colleagues into community. #AsianHeritageMonth #Inclusion #EmployeeResourceGroups #Belonging #CulturalCelebration #Leadership

Stella Yeung shared thisWhen Scotiabankers volunteer at Ronald McDonald House, our values become personal. By showing up for families during moments of real vulnerability, we put people first and act with integrity—quietly, authentically, and without hesitation. Teams take ownership, work side-by-side, and turn care into action, creating impact that extends far beyond the walls of our Bank. It’s inclusion you can feel, accountability you can see, and a powerful reminder that being a Scotiabanker means strengthening communities to shape the future, not just balance sheets.Stella Yeung shared thisLast week a group of us participated in the “meals from the heart” program at Ronald McDonald House - an essential community service that provides a home away from home for families who are navigating the stress of children in long-term hospital care. I was especially honoured to present our ScotiaRISE donation to Louise Smith, Ronald McDonald House Toronto CEO. Giving back through opportunities like this are more than experiences: they’re reminders of the impact we can have when we come together to support those in need. Together, we are helping build a stronger, more inclusive community. #ScotiaPride #ScotiaTech #ScotiaRISE

Stella Yeung liked thisStella Yeung liked thisCanada is making a major push to accelerate business investment — but how big and how quickly the economic impact materializes remains an open question. A new Productivity Mega Deduction would significantly expand the share of capital assets eligible for immediate expensing, from roughly 15% to more than 65%. The measure covers investments ranging from fibre-optic cable and mining property to software, aircraft, patents and bridges. Scotiabank Vice-President, Economic Policy Rebekah Young notes however that tax policy is only one factor influencing capital spending. “Demand, financing conditions, regulatory timelines, labour availability and business confidence will determine how much incremental investment is unlocked and over what timeframe," she says. Canada’s next era of growth will require ambition, collaboration and access to capital. On Friday, BMO announced its intention to mobilize up to $70 billion in new capital over the next 10 years for sectors critical to Canada’s economic security and resilience, including infrastructure, mining and critical minerals, AI computing, defence and security, and energy. This commitment is about helping Canadian businesses invest, grow and compete, while contributing to a stronger and more resilient economy. I’m proud of the role BMO continues to play in supporting our clients, communities and Canada’s long-term prosperity.
