As i am a disabled pensioner, i applied for a full central heating heating grant some 17 months a go. we thought the installation went well and at the time we all thought everything was completed to a good standard. Now we find where we need an additional radiator to be installed on the ground floor toilet. So we approached contractor to install the radiator we bought, we then found out that there was no drain off valve anywhere in the system whether upstairs or specifically on the ground floor ! having gone back to UKEM and explained our dilemma, after emails to head office and the engineer who did the installation, i was told by head office that "its not mandatory to fit any drain off valves at all ! So if you are a DIY type person you would never be able to bleed or remove any part of the central heating as draining off the system makes life so easy if this valve was already built into the heating system ? So morally UKEM are not bothered about this as it must be solely down to cost just additional of adding this particular bleed off valve. I now hope that other potential customers who think of using UKEM make absolutely sure they add a drain off valve is fitted as standard. We thought we were dealing with a customer focused Company who cares about after sales support for the most vulnerable members of society but obviously not.
My experience has left me with serious concerns about the level of knowledge and due diligence involved in my ECO4 installation.
I was provided with financial projections for my solar PV and heat pump installation that included Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) income and export credits as part of the expected savings. These projections were used to demonstrate the financial benefits of the system.
Only after installation did I discover that I cannot obtain a smart meter due to communications limitations in my area. EDF has confirmed this. Without a smart meter, I cannot access SEG payments, meaning a significant part of the projected savings shown to me is not available in reality.
What I find most concerning is that neither UKEM, their designers, nor EDF appear to have identified or raised this issue before the installation went ahead. For a scheme aimed at helping vulnerable and low-income households reduce their energy costs, I would have expected someone involved in the process to check whether the assumptions used in the savings calculations were actually achievable.
Instead, I have been left with projections that include income I cannot receive and concerns about future winter energy bills.
When I raised this, I felt the response focused on technical compliance and scheme wording rather than addressing the obvious question: why were export payments included in my projected savings if I was unable to access them?
The equipment may be functioning, but that is not the point. My concern is the apparent lack of due diligence, poor communication between the parties involved, and the unwillingness to accept responsibility for assumptions that were used in the financial projections.
I have now referred the matter to the Ombudsman for independent review.
My advice to anyone considering an ECO4 installation is to obtain written confirmation regarding smart meter eligibility and export tariff access before relying on any projected savings figures.
Adding more to this.
The installers they used ruined a brand new bathroom floor.
I had hot water coming out the toilet as well.
Some of the guys had a bad attitude.
This is a money grab for these plumbers as it’s all they do now. They laugh when I ask do they do other work.
No of course not, they probably get a fortune for this shoddy work.
You’ve been warned.
I can't recommend these guys enough. A year on and they still respond quickly to queries in a timely and helpful manner with great patience. Thank you.

I've had no end of problems with my solar panels. They installed a faulty solar panel inverter that doesn't work and don't even have the decency to re-install the replacement one that the manufacturer is sending. Customer service poor, no replies, or slow replies to emails and I've had to constantly chase for answers for various other issues/complaints I had with the solar panel install over the last 6 months. Do not go with this company, it's caused me so much stress so regretting ever signing up to this grant!
Still not getting much help they cut part of the window seals without my knowlege therefore, they have damamged my double glazing ,also cracked flags x3 and broke stones around my grate. They did not tell they would have to cut the seals to put the trickle vents in as i would have refused.
Very quick, very polite and understanding. Useful information.

If I could give this company 10 stars I would!!
My father and I had solar panels fitted and the whole instillation couldn't have gone smoother.
From the very first contact, the sales team were amazing. There was no pushiness or pressure and they were so helpful with any queries. They were extremely helpful with my dad's grant and very patient with him being elderly, deaf and at times quite cantankerous. Lol. We dealt with Luke and Wayne who I felt went particularly above and beyond to help my Dad.
I was extremely happy with the competitive quote I was given.
Then the instillation - the scaffold lads and electricians were great. The electrician explained the system fully before they left and all the rubbish, cardboard boxes etc was left tidy. The rubbish was picked up after the scaffolding went down.
UKEM completed all the necessary paperwork and communication with the electric board so we had absolutely no stress having to do applications as it was all done for us. All relevant paperwork and certificates were sent to us very quickly.
Afterwards the company were really helpful with any queries and thank you to Sarah and Chris also for your swift and helpful responses.
Both my Dad and I are super, super pleased with the product and instillation. The staff we have dealt with throughout the whole process are an absolute credit to the company who like I said in the title would highly recommend.
Thank you very much 😁

I’m thrilled and very grateful for my heat pump installation, good bye cold house😃.
The whole UKem team were all very helpful and all well-versed in their field, from my first contact with Customer Care through to the Installation team, who were excellent, doing a brilliant job without disrupting my home anywhere near as much as I’d feared.
Everyone involved was always able to explain, advise, listen to my concerns and act on them, they were all helpful beyond my expectations.
If you’re thinking about it…. go for it!

My elderly mum had her house insulated and a new boiler fitted which was something she was a little anxious about as she is elderly and not been well. She need not have worried. The first team who completed the cavity work and roof insulation were brilliant and worked so hard all day. The work was finished on time and everywhere left clean. The second team who completed- Darren and his nephew - removed her old boiler and fit her new one. They did such a fab job and worked solidly all day to get it finished for her. Darren and his nephew explained everything so well to mum and were very patient with her when she didn’t understand something. Please pass on our thanks to both teams we really appreciate the work they did and how they did it.
