If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars I would. I have had a bank account with Sparebank 1 for decades. However, I am living in the UK, and banking with Sparebank1 has become a NIGHTMARE. They treat all individuals living abroad as criminals, and we have to go through annual checks. The letters they send you are VERY offensive and threatening. You have to complete paper forms which you have to return by post. Then they get "lost" in the post. And then they cancel your card and shut your access to your account. It takes a lot of perseverance and determination to get it sorted out.

This time they gave me a 14 days deadline to use my "kodebrikke" otherwise they would cancel it. I was away on holiday (to Norway ironically) and did not have my "kodebrikke" with me, so now that is cancelled. Its absolutely ridiculous. ZERO customer services. ZERO!!!!

And did you know that there are 10 different Sparebank 1 in Norway! They are all separate + as separate as Llloyds bank, Coutts, RBS, HBSC etc etc. How inventive to ALL have the same name! How to find your correct bank when they are all called the same?

Last time I had to sit in three different queues until I got the correct bank.

Supports fraud!

This bank supports fraud payments together with Visa. They claim to offer "Safe payments", while they in reality do support fraud.

Tried to become a customer there

Tried to become a customer there. After several rounds with the same (!) questions, I was denied opening an account - they sent me an sms. And several minutes later, I received an email where they welcomed me as a new client. Such a high standard of customer service! I thought it was impossible to be worse than dnb, but sparebank1 somehow managed. I'm sort of impressed.

This bank hosts the scammer Tom…

This bank hosts the scammer Tom Nordvang account 1802.1685.158 connected to eu-loan.com through Sara Bystrøm, Osby; Sweden. He is the norwegian mule for this belgian scam company. They are reported to fsma.be, Bellgian financial authorities, and to Norwegian and Swedish police. Norwegian police say they will do nothing about it. The Sparebank1 does nothing about it.

Terrible Bank

terrible bank and terrible customer service, it seems that the people who work there don't know what they are doing, since I opened the account at this bank there have been countless errors since they charged me 4 times the same fee because of the codebrique, and The onetime code simply didn't work, I had to go to the counter numerous times to try to resolve the problem accessing my account and they never knew how to help me and even asked why I was dissatisfied with this account. bank, I think that a review should be carried out in the training of those who serve customers, they are clearly not prepared to resolve problems created by them because if the account had been opened correctly there would not have been so many inconveniences.

Avoid Sparebank1: Invasive Practices

The way this bank is currently handling my friends situation is absolutely awful. Whilst I am not a customer myself, it does involve me, hence the review. It all started when my friend wanted to purchase a PC for me. I am struggling financially at the moment, but we agreed on monthly repayments in order for me to pay him back – to which, I have started paying and don’t even own the item yet, thanks to this joke of a bank. Due to a mistake on our part, he allowed me to use his card from where I live and naturally, the payment was blocked. That was right on the banks part – payments are blocked if they are out of your specific region, totally normal.

However, when my friend called to explain the situation, he was met with “send an official message.” Red flag number one. Super outdated. Red flag number two… my friend has called and called and whilst he speaks to people who are super sweet, he never gets an update and has been told he isn’t allowed to contact the investigators directly. Like… what the hell? What kind of bank operates like this? This could have been resolved with one phone call. Third red flag… when it comes to international payments, Sparebank is shady as hell, and judging by previous reviews, this isn’t new behaviour. At first, they accused my friend of money laundering. Completely out of order and absolutely disgusting. We proved them wrong by sending screenshots for the proof of purchases (he helped me in the past with food and paid for me to take a course for me to get into University next year; I wouldn’t have been able to do it if it weren’t for him, I can’t thank him enough), my name, email address, date of birth and address. You would think that would be the end of it since we proved our innocence, but nope. They then emailed him back, asking for MY bank statements, why he was buying me such an expensive PC and more about education. On one hand, I don’t mind sending my bank statements because it proves our innocence furthermore but now they have far too information about my life, which is an invasion of privacy considering I am not their customer. They know my dads name, my sons fathers name, my letting agents, my aunts name, where I am studying and what degree I am going to be studying, even though that is nothing to do with them. My question is… why didn’t they ask for bank statements in the first place? Why not be more specific the first time? After reading reviews and researching more about this bank, if money is taken out of my account, I know it was these guys and I WILL seek legal action. I am even considering seeking legal action right now.

If I ever move to Norway, I know this is one bank to avoid. Thankfully, my friend will be changing from these absolute clowns due to the situation that has occurred. They have zero “customer care,” refuse to listen to their own customers, and as a previous review states, treat their own customers like criminals. They will accuse you of money laundering or love scamming. Is it a crime to help a friend? Nope.

They also hold your money captive; reviews before mine prove this also. My friend feels like he is unable to buy anything, help anyone out, spend money due to this situation. He was only trying to do something nice and it is HIS money that he WORKED for. He can spend it on what HE wants.

On top of all of that, the time they take to respond to messages? An absolute joke. The situation has still yet to be resolved. I think I have aged about 85 years so far. This could have been resolved within a day if the people who worked there weren’t so lazy. To further prove their laziness, my friends personal banking branch is only open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday… 10am-3pm? Another red flag. If UK banks treated their customers this way, they would go out of business real quick.

But yes, on a serious note, avoid Sparebank1 at all costs. Do not use this god awful bank. Please listen to previous reviews, as well as my own. You will regret it eventually.

No disposal of your own money

Sparebank 1 may be good for regional matters or for shopping at the Coop. For everything else, especially larger transfers or international transfers, you should give this bank a wide berth!

With our very well-filled bank account, I tried to make a transfer to my mother-in-law in Germany. As 20,000 euros were not permitted, I tried to do it in 5,000 euro increments. All payments were stopped by the bank without explanation and my mother-in-law was unable to receive any money. The reason given on the phone was that I should have ticked the cost-sharing box. This is nonsense, as cost sharing is always preset and does not have to be ticked. The company's own employees are not familiar with the system.

Another lady on the phone seemed willing and motivated at first. She researched that the monthly transfer limit had been reached and that further transfers were not possible. We had just started the month, so I was completely incapacitated. My insistent attempts to increase the transfer limit were unsuccessful. The lady did say that she would send me a document that I would have to fill in to change the limit, but I never received anything like that until today. To this day, I can't make any more international transfers and have to wait until the beginning of the new month.

As I don't consider any of this to be a good situation and certainly not a "service" - we are indeed talking about our OWN money, which we want to use - I have already organized a new bank.

We are now in the private banking division of DNB and our experience here has been incredibly positive. We hope it stays that way. As soon as all the money is withdrawn from the Sparebanken 1, I will close my account.

I absolutely can not recommend this bank. Even if this would be up to regulations, the information and help of this bank is inacceptable in my opinion.

Terrible culture and disgusting working ethics

This bank has a terrible culture and disgusting working ethics.

After I sent application to mortgage ( boliglån), one of their consultants (Elisabeth Vu) tried to contact me (22.Jul.2022, 14:58) by phone call.

The consultant called me and turned off her phone immediately.

However, I knew the call was about mortage, then I dropped my work and tried to reach back.

Because the consultant turned off her phone. I spent over 10 minutes to reach her out and got nothing. I did even call 915 07040 ( their customer service phone number) two times.

The consultant was cheating his/her working time and wasting my time.

Terrible Business Ethics

One of their mortgage consultant called me around 10 o’clock morning. I missed the call, and called back to the consultant that afternoon. The consultant blamed me, “You call back after hours ….”, and kept arguing heavily. I asked, “do you want to continue the mortgage business ?” The consultant said, “I am not sure”, and kept arguing.

This bank’s business ethics is opposed to the common business ethics. How does this bank still survive in the market ?

Avoid

The staff is undertrained and gives conflicting information. I have never seen less competent people in a bank, and I have been a client of several throughout the EU. This is quite serious, since you are entrusting these people with your salary or savings, for example. They have no respect for your time and they are extremely inflexible. Just try to find another bank where people know how to communicate, give clear and accurate information and really solve the problems which might arise.
