Very disappointing customer service

Very disappointing customer service. We had travelled to Paris with our family to visit the Louvre and, after a misunderstanding with our third-party booking, immediately approached museum staff for help.

We explained the situation and asked whether they could help us locate or contact the tour group we were supposed to meet. We weren’t asking for free entry—just some assistance in trying to resolve the problem. Instead, we were simply told there was nothing they could do.

I appreciate that the booking was with an external operator, but a museum of this stature could surely make more of an effort to assist visitors who are clearly distressed and trying to find a solution. A little empathy and willingness to help would have gone a long way.

Sadly, what should have been the highlight of our family trip to Paris turned into an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience.

How do people book online?

The online booking experience is absolutely horrible; We tried for hours but never managed to actually pressing "Pay" because the shopping basket could not be verified.
The error messages also do not clarify to the use at all what actually failed in the process, so it's guesswork.

We would love to go but we are unable to buy tickets; Tried multiple account, phones and computers - I'd be fired if I delivered this to a client.

They cancelled our time spot

They cancelled our time spot because of the weather supposedly and then told us they can do nothing about it or find us any time spot and that "we should have booked another time". Like??? We were supposed to book every day in case they would just cancel us every time?

Online booking system needs work

Their online booking system urgently needs work. Tried to get a ticket to the free June 20 concert the second reservations were accepted. Was waitlisted. When I finally got to the site after a 30 minute wait, it was identical to the site I had started at. It unclear what I had to do, or whether I had been kicked off. MAKE CLEAR UP FRONT WHAT THE STEPS ARE WHEN YOU FINALLY ACCESS THE SITE AFTER WAITING HALF AN HOUR!

Dreadful experience

Dreadful experience. Arrived at 9.10 as we had timed tickets for 9.30. The Louvre was due to open at 9am but didn't open until 10.45am. We were stood in the heat for two hours alongside people who had tickets for 9am, 9.30am, 10am and beyond. Apparantly, this is a regular occurrence and not just a one off. When we eventually were given the go ahead to enter, it was heaving. Good luck with trying to view the Mona Lisa - people were packed in like sardines in a tin... It was unbearable. Such a shame as there were lots of interesting things to see.
Unfortunately, waiting outside for two hours in the heat exhausted us.

My experience as a visitor and museum staff

My experience comes both as a visitor to the Louvre and as someone who currently works in museum operations in the United States.

I want to start by saying that I absolutely understand why the Louvre is considered one of the most important museums in the world. The artworks themselves are incredible and seeing them in person genuinely is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

However, I would be lying if I said the actual visitor experience matched the prestige and reputation of the institution.

The biggest disappointment by far was the customer service and overall staff support throughout the museum. For a museum that receives millions of international visitors every year, I expected a much higher level of communication, organization, and professionalism from the staff. Only a small portion of employees seemed able to effectively communicate in English or help visitors navigate the museum properly. I’m not expecting every employee to be fully bilingual, but for an institution of this scale and international importance, basic communication and directional assistance should be a standard.

What shocked me even more was how little some staff members seemed to know about the museum itself. There were multiple moments where asking for directions to galleries, sculptures, or famous works either resulted in vague answers, confusion, or being redirected repeatedly. As someone who works in museums myself, this was honestly bizarre to experience at one of the most famous museums in the world.

Another major issue is the amount of ticket scams surrounding the Louvre online. Unfortunately, my family personally experienced this (in our case it was “Feel The City Tours” scam website). While I understand the museum itself is not responsible for third-party scam websites, the information desks were not particularly helpful in assisting visitors who had unknowingly purchased invalid tickets. Older visitors especially seem vulnerable to this problem. Even a little more guidance, compassion, or flexibility in handling these situations would go a long way in preserving goodwill toward visitors who already spent a significant amount of money and traveled internationally.

The lack of air conditioning and overall heat inside the museum also made the experience physically exhausting. If you are visiting during warmer months, especially if you are older or sensitive to heat, please prepare yourself. Between the crowds, the indoor temperatures, and the amount of walking, it can become genuinely overwhelming. Visitors from countries with stronger climate control systems may find this particularly uncomfortable.

Additional frustrations included poor Wi-Fi connectivity, inconsistent restroom maintenance, difficulty finding staff when needed, access to artworks and sections of the museums being closed for renovations to the public without prior notice to visitors on their websites, very limited access to genuinely cold drinks or iced coffee nearby during extreme heat.

Overall, I do not regret seeing the Louvre because the art itself truly is extraordinary. But the operational side of the experience did not meet the level of excellence I expected from such a globally respected institution.

My biggest advice to future visitors:
ONLY purchase tickets directly from the official Louvre website. Please be careful with third-party ticket sellers, especially if you are unfamiliar with how to identify scam sites.

And if you plan on visiting, go in fully prepared with a map, a list of the artworks you want to see, cold drink in a bag, patience, and realistic expectations.

Beware of random room closures with no notice

Beware! The museum randomly closes rooms at five minutes notice. There is no way to know in advance. These include rooms with important paintings, this morning it was room 806 with Hieronymus Bosch's 'Ship of Fools.' If you are traveling from far to see specific works there is no guarantee they will be open to the public. This has been going on for months. As one of their own staff said, it's a complete scandal.

To the Management of the Louvre…

To the Management of the Louvre Customer Service Team,

I am writing to you with immense frustration and deep disappointment regarding the completely unacceptable treatment my group and I received at the Louvre on March 22nd, around 13:30h. What was supposed to be a memorable cultural experience was entirely ruined by your incompetent systems and shockingly rude staff.

Despite having perfectly valid tickets, we were aggressively denied entry. The reason? All of our tickets were saved on a single mobile phone. Your staff demanded that we distribute the tickets to every single person's device before we could enter.

This absurd demand was made impossible by the fact that mobile data connection in that area is practically nonexistent, and the free Wi-Fi provided by the Louvre is absolutely awful. We were literally trapped—unable to download or send the tickets, and completely unsupported by your team.

Instead of helping us, the staff members were dismissive, uncommunicative, and incredibly disrespectful. They continuously repeated that it was "not their problem" and simply waved us away from the queue as if we were a nuisance. When I explicitly stated that I would be filing a formal complaint and asked the desk attendant for her name, she outright refused to provide it. However, I believe her name was Anne, and I was informed the manager on duty was Valerie Benot. A management team that allows this kind of hostile environment should be ashamed.

To make matters worse, this was not our only issue with your ticketing system. One of our purchases did not even have the tickets attached to the confirmation email. I was forced to wait in a completely separate queue for 30 minutes, practically begging for the tickets I had already paid for.

Time at a museum as vast as the Louvre is incredibly precious, and we had no intention of wasting ours dealing with incompetent managing staff, broken ticketing systems, and outright rudeness.

I demand a thorough explanation as to why this arbitrary and impossible ticket distribution rule was enforced when your own internet infrastructure cannot support it. Furthermore, I expect to hear exactly how you plan to compensate us for the severe distress, wasted time, and the extremely bad experience we were subjected to.

I look forward to your prompt response and a satisfactory resolution to this miserable experience.

Bought tickets for 12 pm

Bought tickets for 12 pm. At 11:30 am, people with 10 am tickets still weren't inside. My mother sat down because she had foot problems, but was told that was her problem and she had to stand up. Children were allowed to eat but had to stay seated. Expect a minimum 2-hour wait; it's best to arrive 5 hours early to ensure you're inside on time.

Shocking experience

Trying to book online to take our grandson, shocking experience, site kept resetting, losing information, with all the issues i ended up booking the wrong date, the website had an option to Make enquiries with categories like amend booking dates, refunds and others, we asked to change the booking, they flatly refused, no refund no amendment no support, every time we contact them they just say no, awful experience, sad to say we won't be visiting the Louvre so our grandson won't get to see everything as I'm not paying twice

Unhelpful staff, closed exhibits, over priced, over charged

Awful, unkind staff who ruined the day for me. I booked online but still had to queue for over an hour. When I finally got inside my ticket was rejected - staff couldn't explain why and wouldn't honour the money I had already paid or let me get a refund or tell me who to pay. Ended up paying twice. Scam artists. Staff were unhelpful, rude and insulting.

Food is overpriced and no proper seats for eating. Awful for somewhere that already charges 32 euros fir entry.

Not enough toilets for the amount of visitors and half were out of use. God knows where all the money goes because it's not on the facilities.

We spent ages looking for one exhibit only to find that whole floor was not open. No that this noted on the floor plans anywhere nor where we told this anywhere.

Floor plans and layout very poor. Real struggle to find what we wanted.

Art and exhibits were good but staff and facilities were awful. And exhibit was completely over charged.

Will never go there again!!!!

We (me and my grandmother) couldn't…

We (me and my grandmother) couldn't even get in with tickets purchased from the Louvre website. The staff was incredibly rude and impolite to a point I had never seen in Paris thus far. The website is confusing, the opening hours (due to the strike) are confusing, and there is a huge lack of communication in general. The tone they used with me whenever I was simply trying to understand what had gone wrong was condescending and rude. Unless you are ready to face confusing methods of purchasing tickets and rude staff confrontation, I would just avoid this tourist spot and go to one of the many other art museums in Paris.

Museum gets a zero but rated 2 because art is amazing

Two stars because the art is amazing. The museum experience was terrible. Hot, overcrowded, noisy, lines everywhere, information desks just sent you to another information desk to another information desk. No maps or directions. Mona Lisa presentation was pathetic …no lines, just who could elbow to the front of the crowd to take the most selfies. We took a guided tour presented by the museum. The 90 min tour was less than 60 min. The earphones had no volume control and so much static most of the talks were lost. Total waste.

Chaotic crowed and sweaty

As an art historian i want to give my honest opinion: Terrible experience!! Of course rhe art is amazing and i would give that an 11 star on itself. But the Louvre is extremely busy and hot. It feels like walking on a festival, you can't walk freely, it is extremely crowded.. There is no airconditioning and almost no toilets only at the entrance, and even the amount of toilets was way to little for the amount of visitors, also no running water and no soap dispenser that worked.
You are in lines from the entrance until you leave; lines to enter, lines to scan the tickets, lines for the toilets lines for every important art object, lines to ask for imformation etc etc .
The Louvre has billions of money but no decent toilets : they should let less visitors come in to make the experience better and also build more toilets and more staff to help people find there way. Which leads my to my last point;
There are almost no maps to be found in situ which is extremley important for such a big museum. Maps are rarely to be found during your walk in the museum, only on certain points, which makes jt hard to get to the other wings and levels.
My initial plan was to stay for a whole day so i could see enough but i left after 2,5 hours, and i was exhausted

The worst museum. Do not visit

The worst museum to visit. Very rude staff, especially the queuing and cleaning staff, they misused their right to block or interupted your visiting like demanding you to get in a longer line, block to get in toilet if they wanted to clean up out of the sudde , etc. Waiting line was insane. Although we, including my old 70 y.o parents got the tickets booked in advance, we must wait for almost an hour under a heavy rain in a super long queue to get in. All the checking there were done manually by staff who did eye check one by onr ticket, or shouted to order people in line, literally like in the old time. The toilets are terrible, toilet sinks were stuck and built up, no ventilation, huge queue to get in wc, urine smell is litterally everywhere . The building isnt built to support people on wheel chair. Although they gave a wheelchair to my mom, many elevators didnt work or ubder maintenance. The elevators that worked could only move up or down, not both. It means we must walked like hours to get through the crowd, searching for one by one elevator yat could work. We ended up letting my poor old mom walked for 3 floors with her knee problem in a painful way while my dad must carry wheelchair by hand because none of elevator could work to the exit gate. When we wanted to file a complaint due to huge dissapointment, they said nothing could be done by them until we posted a complaint on their system . Then they can see how to react. In the end, it hurted me so much seeing how my old parents suffered in Louvre this way. I would never come back again. Such a shame to see how much they earned vs how much they should have invested to improve their facility or staff training. The worst!
