This company is very confusing.
My insurance started on June 25, 2025, and ended on June 25, 2026. I never used it during that year, and I paid all 12 monthly installments.
Now, in July 2026, they're trying to charge me again. I sent them an email asking what was going on. Six days later, they replied with an invoice (!) and told me that if I wanted to cancel my insurance, I should do so via the provided link.
I followed the link, and it literally says: "Your travel insurance ends automatically at the end of the agreed period – no action is required on your part."
At this point, I'm just glad I never had to use their wonderful services, because I can only imagine what a nightmare that would have been.
I've already chosen another provider for the coming year in Germany, and I recommend that you do the same.
Update: just received another email from the same Frau. Looks like she is even more confused. She now states that my contract has ended on 14.06.2026.
Unfortunately, she still refuses to explain why DR-WALTER still trying to charge me in JULY 2026.

Not on the first attempt, but on the secons one everything was clear and easy!
I've used this insurance for 2,5 years and I'm very thankful to them. It allows you to visit any doctor that you want and has reasonable policies.
I've used Dr Walter multiple times, often I've been quite happy with my experience. However, it seems that they are getting more complicated to work with now.
Recently I submitted a claim that was rejected twice on changing requirements.
First, I was asked for proof of medical necessity, which I provided. Then I was told my explanation wasn’t sufficient and to resubmit and entirely new claim.
After resubmitting with the same documents and an updated explanation, it was rejected again for including the documents that had been accepted.
Now they are asking me to submit a new claim yet again.
Overall, it feels like they are changing the requirements and hurdles are being used to avoid processing the claim.
Was looking for international liability insurance. I instantly reached someone and was accompanied through the process by Ms Hegemann.
I really appreciated how responsive the customer service team was when I contacted them, and the advice they gave me on choosing my insurance policy.
I like the fact that you can easily and quickly take your insurance policy online and a certificate is immediately available. It's really convenient.
Thanks !
It was the worst insurance experience I have ever had. I do not recommend it at all. They do not reimburse your money when you go to the doctor. I cancelled the policy on the agreed and documented date, but they refused to refund my money retroactively, even though the mistake was theirs. After cancelling, they kept charging me. I complained, and they said it was simply their company's rules and policies.
Do not trust this company, and I do not recommend giving them your bank details. I highly recommend TEKA insurance. They are very respectful with payments, they respond quickly if you have problems, and if you report an incorrect charge, they listen to you and solve it.
DR. WALTER is the worst. Do not trust them.

I have nice experience so far with Dr.Walter insurance but since last few days I am sending request by online to change start date of provisit Germany travel insurance as my travelling dates are postponed but even after continually contacting repetitive mails no response. Wondering what happened this time..!! My current start date is 9th of May after 3 days. I am writing here in a hope that someone from dr Walter will notice this and take action immediately. Because it’s urgent to change the dates. I hope at least I will get some response here.

Was great but it will be better that there should be a straight option for Family Reunion Visa I called help line which helped me to choose the right option and got the certificate
Overall, I can highly recommend Dr. Walter without reservation – a trustworthy and customer-oriented insurance provider with excellent service.
I have had very positive experiences with the insurance company Dr. Walter. The service is reliable and professional. Particularly noteworthy is the quick handling of inquiries as well as the competent and friendly advice.
The insurance products offered are clearly structured and well tailored to the needs of international clients. Even in the event of a claim, everything was handled smoothly and efficiently, which gave me a strong sense of security.

Great customer service! I was uncertain which insurance to pick but they responded to my question very fast!
Everyone very helpful and pretty straightforward system. Only issue was it took 3 weeks for the money to be debited from my account using a visa card. Overall very satisfied.
I was a happy customer with ADAC more than 5 times and only good reason to switch was DR-WALTER provides support in English but not claims.

I am writing this to highlight the unprofessional behavior of the Dr-Walter Claims Department. My claim (PWT-120001) has been handled with a complete lack of consistency and transparency.
The department has provided three contradictory reasons for denying my claim:
Initially, they claimed documents were "illegible" (resolved by providing digital receipts).
Then, they termed medical treatment for a diagnosed condition as "preventive."
Finally, they claimed a "pre-existing condition" based on non-specific symptoms, ignoring evidence-based medical facts and the official diagnosis date.
After a formal escalation, I received an email from the Claims Department on December 15, 2025, stating they would "carefully re-examine the case" and "inform me immediately."
It has been 19 days, and I have received no response. This delay and the refusal to engage with the actual medical facts of the case are unacceptable for a licensed German insurance administrator. I expect a professional resolution immediately, not more generic templates.
UPDATE (2026-01-10):
It has now been more than 25 days since your promise on December 15 to “inform me immediately”. Using public holidays as an explanation for complete silence over such an extended period is not acceptable for a professional insurance administrator.
My case is not “complex”; what appears complex is the way you have handled it. You have already cycled through three different explanations: technical (“illegible documents”), medical (“preventive”), and finally legal (“pre-existing condition”). In German insurance practice, inconsistent and shifting reasons for a denial are widely seen as a red flag for bad-faith handling of claims.
I therefore request a final, formal decision that explains, in writing, why the reasons for denying my claim have changed and which exact policy clauses you rely on. In the absence of a professional and transparent response, I will proceed with escalating this case to BaFin (Federal Financial Supervisory Authority) to address these “denial fishing” tactics and the breach of professional standards.

SUPER EASY AND AFFORDIBLE. EXCELLENT FOR OUR RELOCATION TO GERMANY FROM THE US.
It’s really easy to register and receive health insurance.
I had different issues when I needed the insurance as a student in Germany and despite the fact that there were controversial case in my situation - overall everything was resolved really well. I am thankful for their work and actually I think they did more than I expected. I have them for almost 3 years and price wise it really helped me! The only thing is the communication, sometimes you have different people who respond and they loose stuff and some mess happened, but I would choose them again and reccomend them to my friends!
