Extremely poor service
Extremely poor communication, repeated delays, and a complete lack of proactive client service
My experience with RealEstateLawyers.ca was one of the most frustrating professional service experiences I have had. I rarely write reviews, but this experience was infuriating.
My file was handled by T** Babic (Senior Real Estate Law Clerk) and M*** Weisleder (Senior Partner) in connection with the sale of my Canadian property. As a non-resident citizen, a significant portion of my sale proceeds was retained in trust while CRA processed my T2062 application.
After CRA approved the application and issued the required remittance amount (about 6 months later), I promptly sent the assessment to the firm and asked them to remit the tax from the trust funds they were holding on my behalf. From that point onward, communication largely broke down. My emails frequently went unanswered; I had to make repeated international phone calls simply to obtain updates, and despite being told that the remittance would be processed, weeks passed without action.
Eventually, after persistent follow-up, the firm completed the CRA remittance and later released the remaining trust funds. However, even the conclusion of the file reflected the same lack of professionalism. No notification that my funds had been released. I only became aware of the transfer because I checked my bank account myself. I also had to ask for the final trust accounting, which is supposed to be a basic closing document for their client.
My criticism is not about the legal outcome—the matter was eventually completed correctly. My criticism is about the level of service. Throughout the entire process, I was the one initiating every follow-up. I had to chase updates, chase the CRA remittance, discover the release of my own funds, and then chase the firm again for the final statement.
When clients entrust a law firm with significant funds held in trust, they deserve timely communication, transparency, and confidence that their instructions are being carried out without having to constantly follow up. Unfortunately, that was not my experience, and I cannot recommend this firm based on the level of client service I received.
