The worst experience in our new home…

The worst experience in our new home build was from Loewen. We spent over $500,000 on windows, doors and installation. The sales person, Mike, was not knowledgeable about the products we wanted. Ordering took more than six months. When we finally placed the order, we were promised delivery 3rd week of May. The windows arrived 6 weeks later than promised and they couldn't give us a delivery date until the last minute. Consequently, we had to use one of their recommended installers ( they actually contracted installers and arranged for quotations). Fieldstone Windows and doors didn't know how to install our windows. They used improper materials and almost all windows didn't fit. This is not surprising given that called in early May to measure the windows but never showed up. Some windows were 11 inches to big. Others met with the interior walls and glass met stone. Loewen said there could be some adjustments in the sizing and they would measure to confirm. In the end, almost all windows didn't fit and the expected roughins were different that we were told we would need. Some of the doors were damaged (which they refused to replace). Trim was missing. Aluminium was missing and the wrong colour. The installer damaged the house and the windows when they tried to install them. In the end, we fired the installer. At this point, we expected Loewen to step up and take responsibility as they were responsible for measuring, manufacturing and recommending an installer. However, Loewen took no responsibility except agreed to provide some trim and aluminium that wouldn't likely fit (they never measured what we would need). They said too bad for us with the installer. They recommended the installers and said they were properly trained. After our project, we learned that this was the largest project the installers had ever done and they didn't have the experience or training to do the job. In the end, Loewen blamed us for everything and said we should have measured better, hired better contractors and shouldn't expect undamaged doors and windows that fit. They didn't even care that our house was damaged. So try a more reputable window/door manufacturer that installs windows so you don't get ripped off like we did.
