They hang the phone on me without saying a word

Dachser & Kolb purport to be international moving experts, but what they don’t mention is that the subcontractors they use to actually pack and move the goods can be completely incompetent, which in my case they were.
Once I had placed my order and paid the enormous fee, communication was poor. Reactions to my complaints did not come. I was overcharged further upon delivery in the US and my claims for damages were refused.
I have nothing good to say about the service provided.
In detail some of the highlights:
My move from Tirol, Austria to the US was fraught with incompetence from the moment the movers arrived at my home. 3 men, two of whom spoke neither German nor English were sent to pack my goods. The 3rd man spoke German poorly and did not communicate my instructions to the other two.
Picture frames were stacked on top of one another on an unprotected dining table, which resulted in scratches on both the table and the pictures. I asked them to put a blanket on the table and not to stack the pictures. Several times I caught them as they were improperly packing fragile items, but I was unable to see and control everything they did. This resulted in damage. Opened boxes of food - cereal, flour, breadcrumbs, etc - were packed although no food items were supposed to be shipped. The instructions were not translated to the other workers. The sofa and two bookcases were loaded unwrapped in the truck. I was told they would be wrapped at the warehouse before everything was loaded into the shipping container. Upon arrival in the US, it was clear that this was not done. The two bookcases had multiple scratches and the sofa was filthy. Similarly the mattress was not properly wrapped and was completely filthy upon arrival.
My dissatisfaction and worry about the packing of my belongings was clearly documented in an email before the shipment left Europe. I was convinced, based on the times I “caught” the packers doing something wrong, that there would be problems when I unpacked. I received no reaction or apology for this for many weeks.
Only when the shipment arrived and there was a purported additional fee that I was to pay, did I get some reaction along with a request for further payment. A slight credit for packing materials that weren’t provided was given to me (150 Euro) but a charge for fees in the US of over 500 Euro was added on! I had already paid for the US fees and the actual difference between my prepayment and their bill was only 188 Euro, which I paid. Only because I demanded to see the billing from the US firm, was I able to prove they were overcharging me. The final insult was that I was denied insurance claims because my goods had gone to a warehouse before being unpacked and I had missed the 14 day deadline to claim damages. I had, however, documents the problems both in Austria and at unloading at the warehouse.
All in all, it was an expensive, yet unprofessional move. Run, don’t walk away from Dachser & Kolb.

I contacted Dachser & Kolb concerning a possible move back to the US. I wasn't totally committed at first, because I was unsure about when I would actually be able to make the move. Despite that uncertainty, D&K were very flexible and provided step by step guidance over a two month period, until I decided to commit. From that point on, the D&K team proceeded in an orderly manner so that, within a week, I was able to sign a contractual agreement and receive a commitment for an acceptable moving date. When it comes to doing business, professionalism and expertise really matter, and D&K certainly has that mastered. I would definitely recommend D&K to anyone who values that kind of exceptional service.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Despite providing a video call where I talked to one of the partners and an itemized list of every item in my house, Dachser & Kolb massively underestimated the moving volume.

The result? The movers refused to take many of my items. When I called for help, customer service blamed me telling me that I only booked 40 boxes and claimed I added "extra volume," completely ignoring their own previous documentation.

To make matters worse, they subcontracted the move to a third party without telling me. The movers themselves admitted this is a common occurrence with Dachser & Kolb and complained that they often don't get paid for these errors.

Do not use this company if you want a guaranteed price or a guaranteed move.
