My experience with American express: They clear your deposits, lock you out the next minute, and freeze your business.

"Looking back, it was a huge mistake for my company to continue using American Express since we opened this account in 2024, moving more than a quarter million dollars with them over these past two years." If I knew then what I know today, I would have used other banks for my business bank account from day one. I ran my corporation, ValTerLuX DynastY INC., with them in absolutely flawless standing, routing over $280,000 in total transaction history.

Not a single issue, not a single flag, nothing. Over that time, I safely processed more than $258,000 in real e-commerce revenue through this account from different stores. In March alone we did over $101,000, and over $121,000 in May. American Express was happy to take our processing volume and make money off us for years. Compounding this journey, I am a confirmed victim of severe personal consumer identity theft.

The credit reporting agencies have completely wrecked my consumer credit report since 2022, and despite me providing undeniable proof to them over the years, their corrupt systems have severely damaged my personal credit lines. Because these credit bureaus are corrupt, they choose to side with other corrupt companies and ignore ironclad evidence, which completely blocked me from accessing traditional business funding and forced me to rely entirely on my own hard-earned e-commerce cash flow. When I called American Express to address predatory vendors where we paid for products and services we never received, their back-office team over the phone explicitly encouraged me to go ahead and report those unauthorized transactions through them.

I literally told them that for other non-received purchases, I wouldn't even file disputes because I didn't want to overwhelm American Express with burdens, but their own representatives pushed me, authorized it, and told me to file these specific claims anyway. I showed them loyalty and restraint by holding back my other valid claims, did exactly what their own team instructed me to do, and let my hard-earned merchant revenues drop into the account like normal.

What American Express did next was completely inhumane and a clear demonstration of corruption. They waited until my company legally recuperated the money and the deposit cleared, and then the literal next minute, their automated algorithm froze the funds out of nowhere. Instead of defending their loyal customer, as their back-office team had encouraged over multiple phone calls, American Express panicked after receiving retaliatory complaints from those predatory companies, acting like a corrupt organization by shutting down my top-performing company to shield fraudsters and escape their legal duty to resolve my fraud claims.

Imagine what kind of evil company does such a thing that sides with fraudsters. The depth of their corporate corruption is completely exposed by their own conflicting documentation.

Their own Customer Care departments have issued multiple formal fraud approvals to my company today, explicitly stating word-for-word in writing:"Dear Valter Correia, We’ve completed our investigation of your claim on your American Express Checking account and wanted to share our findings. Our investigation found that the transaction(s) included in your claim was fraudulent. Based on this information, we are reimbursing you for the transaction(s) and closing this claim. To reimburse you for this transaction(s), we're issuing credits totaling $849.86 to your account. The amount(s) credited back to your account may be higher than the amount of the original transaction(s) due to any accumulated interest. Attached, you'll find a list of the transactions included in your claim. We recommend keeping a copy of this communication and any relevant documents for your records. If you have any questions, feel free to chat with us online or give us a call at the number on the back of your Debit Card and reference your claim number listed above. We’re here for you 24/7.

"They have issued these credits to our account across four separate approvals—including individual receipts for $796.69, $161.90, $849.86, and $231.00—formally acknowledging an overwhelming total of $2,039.45 in legally binding fraud reimbursements on our ledger.

They officially admit the extensive vendor fraud occurred, they close the claims, they issue thousands in manual reimbursement credits on their internal corporate ledger, and then they lock my digital portal so I cannot access or liquidate the very funds they just legally admitted belong to me! This is pure corruption—letting an established corporation's cleared business revenues and valid fraud credits sit there while freezing the account immediately for no reason at all.

Platinum not worth it

Platinum not worth it. Fine hotels and resorts really never the cheapest booking option, I used it recently and when I was going home was happy to see a platinum lounge. Membership is £600 per year. When I tried to get in they told me it was Dutch card holders only. There is no reciprocal for UK holders. Kind of a scam

I purchased Amex Travel Insurance

I purchased Amex Travel Insurance. I ended up sick the entire week in Spain. Filled all the paper work asked for and all they paid were the hospital bills. No trip interruption at all. Do not waste your money with their Trip insurance - after this, I will not depend on their car rental insurance either.

I have been an American Express…

I have been an American Express customer for 9 years, and this experience has been incredibly disappointing. Before paying off my balance, I specifically called customer service to confirm that everything would be paid in full and that no additional charges or interest would be applied. The representative assured me that my account would be fully paid and that nothing else would be charged.

Three days later, I received a notification that I had an interest balance. When I called to ask why, the explanation I received was confusing and did not match what I had been told before making my payment. Despite being a loyal customer for nearly a decade, the representative said there was nothing she could do to resolve the issue or even offer a courtesy adjustment.

What frustrates me most is not the amount of interest, it is the lack of accountability and customer service. I relied on the information provided by an American Express representative, yet when that information turned out to be incorrect, no one was willing to make it right. After 9 years of loyalty, I expected better treatment and a company that stands behind the advice its representatives give. Unfortunately, this experience has seriously damaged my trust in American Express.

Cost me 200,000 points and ignored my complaint

I applied for an AMEX Business Card first to qualify for a 200,000 Velocity points offer.

AMEX processed my later Explorer Card application first, which made me ineligible for the original offer — entirely due to their own internal handling.

I then lodged a formal complaint. It was never actioned or responded to.

So not only did their process cost me 200,000 points, but they also failed to deal with the complaint at all.

For a premium brand, this is unacceptable. Be very careful — even if you follow the rules, their internal systems and lack of accountability can cost you significantly.

PASS ON THE AMEX Delta Skymiles credit card!!

Got the AMEX Delta Skymiles credit card and began using it as a daily card. I pay the amount due within 48 hours of the purchase. I tried to use the card this morning and it was declined due to me being over the limit even though I have a ZERO BALANCE ON THE CARD. Apparently they credit your account after 72 hours. If I can't make purchases then I can't get miles on the card. My other cards credit the account when I pay the amount. I can't recommend this card for anyone who uses it for daily purchases or wants to get miles quickly. Had I known what their policy was I wouldn't have gotten the card!

Capital one American Express

So I had Capital One American Express and I made a mistake and got it confused with a different card so I canceled the card so when I called back to have them return the card back on they lied and said it’s been 30 days. I couldn’t have the car turned back on and then I had to reapply again and I said I’m not doing that that’s OK. I have a different card so what I’m saying is they have bad customer service and I would not recommend this card besides the fact that I spoke to six different people and and when I ask why it couldn’t be turned on because it has not been 30 days. The manager told me he couldn’t tell me that I have to wait for a letter in two weeks which I have paperless. I signed up for paper list so I shouldn’t have to wait two weeks so if I was you, I would not get this card.

AMEX Sweden and Finland are TERRIBLE!

As a young person I always dreamed of the day when I could afford an AMEX Platinum and I have to say the whole experience has been absolutely dissappointing.

Finland has no English service for AMEX so you're stuck with Swedish or American who cannot access your info or solve any problems. The whole thing is in Finnish so you can only do anything at a computer and use a Google Translate plugin.

More importantly, today I got a first bill for the card, and the card has not worked even once despite trying to use it in multiple places around the world and online and calling the customer service multiple times. It's like a full time job because of course they are only open during Finnish time so every time you travel anywhere, customer service is closed.

Very useless for an international card.

Paying 70e a month for a credit card that does not work for a single transaction!

I contacted American Express regarding…

I contacted American Express regarding an unwanted merchant charge from Tenorshare. At first, the solution offered felt limited, but afterwards Amex really helped me. They investigated my case, blocked the merchant, and refunded the full amount. I am grateful for their support and quick resolution. That’s why I now give them 4 stars.

Keep away from Amex Sweden

I can safely say that I have NEVER in all my life had anything to do with such an incompetent and chaotic financial service provider as Amex Sweden. It was a true nightmare from start to finish. Getting through to the help-desk after the Amex robot saw the light of a day, was a nightmare. The employees seemed not to know what they were talking about. Trying to get back money from a cancelled airflight (Pandemic) was impossible. The money just sat in my Amex account and they refused point blank to transfer money back to my bank account. Travel insurance - they new everything the insurance would NOT cover and they new nothing about what the insurance would cover. Their card in Norway functions only at a select few shopping outlets. Their benefit scheme is actually insulting it is so bad. Their points-to-frequent flyer conversion functions for exactly 3 airlines. They keep on telling you this will improve with time. I assumed that once my Amex account was closed, they would also close my Priority Pass account automatically. They didn't. I had to spend time talking to Priority Pass myself. And after my Amex account was closed they kept on sending me bills in the post for Kr Zero! Best bit of advice I could give anyone in Scandinavia wanting to join Amex through Sweden?? Do not do it!!

Terrible customer service, Terrible experience

Terrible customer service, terrible company. Made absolutely no effort to in helping me use a “Serve” account. I was having difficulty adding money and linking a debit card, I called customer service and there only recommendation was to close the account, I never even used the card once or added money to my account. The customer service rep didn’t even try to find out what the problem might be or why I was having trouble adding money or linking my debit card. They just went straight to “ you’re only option is to close the account,”are you kidding me!?! What a joke!! . That left me with an incredibly easy decision. Close it down, thanks for nothing. No wonder Visa dominates American Express. I’ll never get another Amex card or account. I’m going to stick with professional companies that value the customer even just a little bit. Take it from me, American Express does not care at all about the customer.

American Express Sweden have refused to…

American Express Sweden have refused to fix their terrible incoming telephone switch board and it just refuse you to go through to customer service randomly.

The system should pull your details from your phone number directly and then ask for a code for verification.

How can a multi billion dollar company have a broken switch board for 20 years?
