Highly Misleading Search Ad and Excessive Service Fees – Be Careful
I visited this website through a Google search advertisement, under the impression that it was the official U.S. government portal for ESTA applications, because it was the site that came up on top of the page. The website’s layout and presentation were highly misleading to general consumers.
Only after the payment was processed did I realize that this is a private third-party agency charging an exorbitant service fee on top of the official $40.27 government fee. I was charged more than 3 times the original fee, not knowing that such a huge proportion of the fee was excess "service" fee. This was not transparently or clearly disclosed upfront during the checkout process.
When I requested a refund for the unfair service fee portion, the company refused immediately via an automated email response. I have already initiated a formal dispute and I am planning to go through chargeback process with my credit card company due to these deceptive practices.
I strongly advise all travelers to double-check the URL and use the official government website to avoid unnecessary and excessive charges.
