Complete Disaster
Used Escrow.com for a website acquisition that started as a $50,000 deal. I sent a domestic wire on a Thursday. Funds were marked received but stuck in review for hours, which then dragged through the weekend.
During that window, the seller and I amended our agreement to a lower price ($15,000) and signed the new terms inside Escrow.com. We both notified support by email and phone, repeatedly, asking them to update the transaction amount in the dashboard. They never did. Multiple emails confirmed the change was applied behind the scenes, but neither of us could ever see the new figure on the actual transaction page.
After about 10 days of back-and-forth, we transferred assets and released funds on faith, since the dashboard escrow fee did update from $600 down to $180, which lined up with the renegotiated price.
Problem: when the seller got paid, $600 was still withheld from her side, not the $180 her closing statement clearly listed. Support's response was essentially that because the price change happened after funding, the fee couldn't be adjusted, even though their own closing statement showed the correct $180 fee. I ended up paying the seller out of my own pocket to make her whole, because using Escrow.com was my recommendation.
I've used this service several times over the years without issue. This experience was a different company. Slow support, contradictory information between emails and the dashboard, and ultimately a closing statement that didn't match the actual wire. Hours wasted, and they still got it wrong. Won't use again.
