Kate Jones FGIA shared thisUnfortunately this is such a common occurrence for women and girls on trains and in every aspect of our lives. Something similar happened to me on the train when I was 14. I wished I had told off the creep who made me feel so awful. I hope my daughter never experiences this but if she does I hope she calls this behaviour out or if she is feeling too vulnerable at that moment I hope the women and girls around her find the courage to do so. Kate Jones FGIA liked thisKate Jones FGIA liked thisToday is Inherited Cancers Awareness Day, so let's start the conversation. After many years of high-risk screening for breast cancer due to a strong family history, last year I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Triple Negative Breast Cancer. This disease has had a huge impact on my family, sadly taking my sister and aunt, and affecting my mum, who has survived it. It's been a rollercoaster of treatment and surgeries, and I'm very pleased to be out the other side with a positive long-term prognosis. If you have a family history or dense breast tissue, please make sure you're getting the screening you need beyond standard mammograms, and advocate for yourself. Early detection was key for me. The Inherited Cancers Australia team offers great resources and access to a peer support initiative. A huge thank you to the incredible team at St Vincent's Private Hospital Sydney, The Kinghorn Cancer Centre, McGrath Foundation and @Women in Focus, who have been with me every step of the way. And to my legendary team at History Will Be Kind, Deepend, How To Impact, and clients, who have given me the time and space to focus on my health and recovery. It's a fine balance when you run your own business. Finally, to my friends and family for endless support, especially my husband Matt Griffin. It's been a ride. Cancer can be inherited. What began from lived experience as a parent searching for better therapy options for my daughter, who has cerebral palsy, grew into a deep belief in what was possible for children with disabilities and their families. After discovering NAPA in Los Angeles in 2008, I knew this model of therapy needed to exist permanently in Australia. As a global leader in paediatric neuro rehabilitation, NAPA was doing things differently—world-leading therapy programs, intensive models, and a whole-child approach that gave families real hope and possibility. What started there became the foundation for something much bigger. Sydney became the second clinic in the global NAPA network, and today that network has grown to 10 clinics worldwide, with 3 here in Australia across Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Over the past decade, NAPA has helped change the therapy landscape in Australia and globally —supporting surrounding metro communities as well as families travelling from regional, rural, national, and international locations to access programs that truly meet their child’s unique needs—often when those services simply aren’t available closer to home. NAPA has supported thousands of children and families, creating a place where children are seen for their potential, not just their diagnosis, and empowed to reach their goals. It’s more than a clinic though. It’s a community. It’s parent power meeting expertise. It’s families walking in exhausted and uncertain, and leaving stronger, more informed, and more hopeful and motivated for their child’s future. As both a parent and a leader, my mission has always been for NAPA to feel safe—a place where families feel seen, heard, and genuinely held. A place that understands the reality of special needs parenting. A place that believes in possibility. I’m constantly inspired by our exceptional allied health team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and feeding pathologists, whose skill, passion, and commitment make life-changing impact every single day. Their belief in children and families is what makes NAPA so special. To every therapist, administrator, our leadership team, supplier, supporter, and family who has been part of this journey—thank you. What happens inside our clinics every day changes lives. Sometimes it’s a first step, a first word, or a quiet moment of confidence—but those moments create ripple effects far beyond our walls. As National Director of Client Services, my mission remains the same: to continue to grow, advocate for, connect with, and truly understand families so we can better meet their needs and help every child thrive. And for our amazing team of therapists continue to grow, and develop and deliver therapy that makes a difference. 10 years in, and I’m more excited than ever for what comes next.

Tried to work out how to say it so it lands ‘just right’. But in a world that feels uncertain right now, it feels safer to just sit in it. In the lead up to Mother’s Day, I’ve been reflecting on the wisdom my mother shared over the years. She was a kind, gentle, softly spoken woman, who was also incredibly determined. One thing she was very clear on - don’t stay stuck in your own head for too long. Because sitting in it doesn’t make it easier, it just makes it heavier. She’d say, talk it out. Get clear on what you want to have, or to know. And when you’re ready - ask. It’s not about getting it perfect. It’s about starting the conversation. 😁 Enjoy the wisdom of Mothers, this week and always.

The appeal follows a landmark Full Court decision of the Federal Court in which a constructive trust was imposed over the copyright in video footage recorded by animal rights activists during a trespass at an abattoir, along with orders that the copyright be assigned to the abattoir's proprietor and that the footage be destroyed by the activists. The ruling raises complex and important questions which could have significant implications for copyright law, whistleblowers and public interest reporting.
