Dayle Stevens OAM shared thisI'm back from the future! Yes, there were robots, drones and AI everywhere at MWC Shanghai. But that wasn’t the real story. What stood out was how much the conversation has moved on, in such a short time. How this is not theory - it’s deployment, at scale, in the real world. How Telcos are looking beyond AI and agents, to what opportunities it brings to our industry. On the Agentic AI in Action panel with Lina Bariah and Mingjuan Hou, Louis Powell asked questions that felt very much in the present: How do we manage hundreds of agents? How do we understand what they’re doing and why? How do we give them identity and hold them accountable? How do we trust? That’s the shift. Trust as the underlying enabler. The biggest signal for me wasn’t the tech itself - it was what it means for telcos. As connectivity moves from connecting people & devices to connecting people & AI, we’re moving from connectivity to orchestration - grounded in trust, observability and real execution. This feels like an inflection point for our industry. We either reinvent ourselves for the IQ era or risk others capturing the value we helped create. Importantly, it was clear that many of the operators on stage have already started that reinvention. Shanghai didn’t feel like theory. It felt like reinvention was already here. I’m stepping into a new enterprise-wide AI leadership role. 3.5 years building Telstra’s D&AI capabilities & driving Telstra’s AI-first ambition have been a ride & we've done some amazing things! My focus now shifts to shaping our long-term AI agenda. That means bringing an outside-in perspective on global trends and regulation, strengthening trust and governance, and helping translate what’s changing in the world into practical outcomes for our customers and people. These new roles for Jo & I are a clear signal that Telstra is doubling down on AI executive leadership as we help enable an AI-powered future for Australia. A quote with Accenture’s Reinvention in the Age of AI report stuck with me today: “99% of Reinventors describe their technology ecosystem as strategic partners, with whom they co-create solutions or share in risks and rewards.” That’s exactly what’s happening here. Reinvention is no longer a buzzword - it’s the strategy. We’re not just experimenting here today. We’re aligning tech with purpose. We’ve got two. One that automates the process of helping customers stay connected while they wait for their fixed service to be restored. Validating eligibility, calculating refund amounts and monitoring for restoration before applying the refund and updating customer records. The second is a security permissions agent which continuously and autonomously monitors user access, system configurations, and permissions across the Salesforce environment. Conversation around AI is loud and often focuses on what's possible. The team around us are increasingly focused on what's practical and getting things done (and super proud of everyone involved in getting this into production). Onto the next. I had the privilege of sitting down with Sarah Friar to discuss how leaders should think about making the right AI bets and leveraging agents to accelerate growth. And @Ndidiamaka Oteh, Mel Raines, Aradhana Sarin, Geoffrey Moore, Linda Hill, and Shibani Ahuja joined me to discuss what cross-functional ownership, AI governance, and operational guardrails looks like in practice. The biggest takeaways from the day: Scaling an Agentic Enterprise is a joint operation grounded in human trust. Unlocking real ROI isn’t just about deploying technology – it requires the leadership to drive the people and process change management this moment demands. As Sarah said, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” I’m grateful for every leader who shared their front-line experiences, hard-earned lessons, and practical strategies for the playbook we’re writing together. As I said in my opening keynote, it’s not the end of software. It’s the end of software that makes humans do all the work. We're at the beginning of an interface revolution. For decades, people have had to go to software, navigate applications, and search for what they need. Now, with AIforce, we're flipping that around. The enterprise comes to you, unlocking all the value of our platform and bringing it to every person and every agent, wherever they work. Together with teams joining virtually from Hong Kong and India, our All Hands created a valuable opportunity to connect with leaders from across the business, exchange ideas and discuss the trends shaping our industry. While AI has dominated almost every technology conversation this year, one message from Steven stood out: AI only creates value when it is #connected. Behind every AI workload, insight and outcome sits the digital infrastructure, networks and connectivity that make it possible. As organisations scale their AI ambitions, connectivity will remain fundamental to unlocking its full potential. Kim also highlighted something equally important: #collaboration. Whether we're building next-generation networks, delivering for customers or capturing new growth opportunities, success depends on teams working together across functions, markets and regions. It was a privilege to have leaders and colleagues together in person, with many more joining remotely, for open conversations, thoughtful questions and a few lighter moments along the way. I had the opportunity to visit our Network Operations Centre and one of our cable landing stations, spend time with our local team, and joined industry leaders from across the region at FutureNet World Asia. Seeing firsthand the scale of the infrastructure and expertise that underpins our international business was a great reminder of the important role we play in keeping Australia connected to the world. 🎤 At FutureNet Asia, I joined a panel discussion on building the AI-native telco with Roy Chua, Thomas Hundt and Prakash P., and gave a keynote on how Telstra is reinventing connectivity for the AI era. The core message was simple: AI isn't just changing how networks are used. It's changing what networks need to do. 📶 AI is changing the nature of connectivity and networks designed for people are increasingly being designed for AI agents, machines and software acting on behalf of people. 🏗️ Network as a Product is transforming connectivity from infrastructure into a programmable platform, creating new ways for customers to consume and integrate network capabilities. 🤖 AI agents and intelligent devices are reshaping network requirements, making uplink performance, predictable latency and resilience more important than ever. 🧠 The path to autonomous networks, which require trusted data, modern architecture, strong governance and foundations to give AI a deep understanding of the network so it can increasingly sense, reason, decide and act autonomously. 🧹 Why simplification is becoming a competitive advantage in the AI era, and why legacy systems, technical debt and complexity are quickly becoming liabilities. ⚖️ How we're scaling AI responsibly across Telstra, building shared foundations that balance innovation, governance, efficiency and cost discipline. It was also a great honour to receive FutureNet Asia's Technology Leader of the Year Award and to see Telstra so strongly represented across the event🏆 Congratulations again to Mary Thomas and Anu Aulakh, finalists in the Women in Telco Trailblazer of the Year category, and to the teams behind our Autonomous Network Operator Leadership Award finalist nomination. After having attended a similarly themed Webex with AICD recently, the opportunity participate in the discussion in person is not something you will want to miss. You do not need to be a technology expert to benefit from these events, the reality is that almost all businesses are now technology businesses, and you should be asking yourself how you plan to navigate rapidly changing landscape. These events do tend to sell out quite quickly, so don't think about it too long, see you there 🤝

THE NEW DATA CENTER SOCIAL CONTRACT Faster permits are being exchanged for a clearer obligation: data centers must fund the infrastructure and resource demand they create. Confirmed Facts On 17 August 2026, New South Wales launched a three-pillar data-center framework covering planning, electricity cost recovery and water pricing. Projects meeting six performance principles can receive assessment within 75 days. Developers must fund required grid upgrades; water pricing will be reviewed to recover full service costs. NSW reports 19 proposed projects worth A$50.3 billion, plus more than 60 facilities operating or under construction. BDCA Analysis This is a new development bargain: speed and certainty in return for environmental performance, infrastructure investment and community value. The strongest sites will arrive with an integrated power, water, skills and permitting package—not only land and a connection request. Should faster approval be reserved for projects that demonstrate full infrastructure cost recovery?
