It's AFL grand final week, and this Saturday the MCG will do what it does best: host one hundred thousand people and then hand them all back to the city. As the largest stadium in the country, and the Southern Hemisphere, it's one of Melbourne's cultural brand icons. Right now, the state is weighing up what it should become. A business case is underway for the MCG and the precinct around it, built around rebuilding the ageing Shane Warne Stand. The proposals are ambitious: capacity lifted past 105,000, skyline bars with a 180-degree sweep of the city, a 2,000-seat sports pub with family restaurants, and potentially, a hotel. Victorians were asked what they thought of it. As fans of the footy (and the MCG), we put our thoughts together. From a cities perspective, we're interested in whether a place like this can still do everything we now ask of it, and even more. It sits on some of the most valuable land in the country, so it must work hard on the quiet days just as much as the big ones. Whatever investment is made will be evaluated for decades, especially by the fans.

Every eligible child in the state needed to receive a kit filled with learning materials to enhance their development and time at kindergarten. That was the promise, and our job was making sure that it arrived while ensuring it remained affordable. It sounds straightforward, but behind that single kit were three very different jobs. Someone had to make the products, someone had to package them, and someone had to move them across the state. Three supplier markets, three sets of commercial realities, all of it having to work as one. And because this was an important initiative under real public and ministerial attention, there was very little room for delays! We helped to tailor the strategic procurement approach around that reality, helping our client set the right commercial structure and framework around supplier roles, performance expectations and a payment regime that helped to support value for money outcomes. From there we facilitated the evaluation across every workstream that supported the client to make the best risk-adjusted outcome. This is what a Commercial & Procurement project looks like for us. Structuring the procurement to achieve the best commercial outcome for our clients, particularly when our work supports the littlest members of the community. If you're staring down a procurement that you need to structure and get the right outcome, that's a conversation we would love to have with you. https://lnkd.in/gUVXJdjD

We work hybrid, mostly around what our clients need week to week. It suits us, but it also means we must be a bit deliberate about getting everyone together. Last week, that lined up with R U OK? Day. Part of our EVP is delivering outcomes sustainably, and days like this are an example of how we do it - a shared meal, a reset, a few hours side by side rather than screen to screen. We're curious about how other teams manage it, especially those spread across a few postcodes like we are. What helps you stay connected?

The world doesn't need another management consultancy. It needs a different one. What makes us different is our people, and how we work together. That’s why we built our Employee Value Proposition together, shaping what we expect of ourselves and each other. For us, that comes down to things that matter most: - Demonstrate capability and leadership - Deliver outcomes sustainably - Contribute to team success - Support each other, and contribute beyond the work Connection is central to all of it. We make time to come together regularly, to plan, strategise, reset or simply catch up. It's part of our DNA, and how we do it is shaped around our team and how we work. This Thursday is R U OK? Day. It’s a good example of why we connect. Taking time out to check in on each other matters, we’re getting everyone together for a proper catch-up. Sometimes that’s all it takes, making time and creating space for each other.

Proud of our team for giving a day to The Big Umbrella Foundation, and prouder still of what that day contributed to in our community. Well said, Jolene.
A few weeks ago our Newmarket Advisory team swapped our laptops for chopping boards at The Big Umbrella Foundation, turning food that would have gone to landfill into meals for local families and individuals facing food insecurity. Thankfully the team are far more capable than I am in the kitchen. Food rescue is one of the least visible parts of the food relief chain, and one of the hardest working. Thank you to the dedicated team at The Big Umbrella for having us and for all you do for the community!

We'd like you to meet Thomas Cochrane, the newest addition to the Newmarket team. Thomas is a strategic urban planner and urban economist who works across urban regeneration, city-scale planning and economic development, and the integration of infrastructure, place and economics. He leads projects that untangle complex urban problems, navigate trade-offs, and align disciplines , focusing on what and who actually creates great places. He's known for his strategic and analytical approach, and clear and compelling communication, which is exactly the kind of senior, practical thinking our clients rely on. We're excited to have him on board and know our clients he is already advising are as well. Welcome, Thomas.

Small team, big impact. It's easy to say. But here's what we really mean by it: When you bring us in, the people in the room are an extension of your team, and are the ones doing the work. No account manager passing you down the line. You get a small group of senior people who have done this before. The person who scoped your project is the person delivering the work, and they stay until the job is done. If you've ever been passed down the line on a big piece of work, you'll know what an asset it is to have direct access to experienced advisors. To us, small has never meant limited. It means you always know exactly who is working on your project or program, and that's a big part of the Newmarket difference.

Nearly four years in business, and we're finally launching our website. In our defence, we've been busy. Getting client work over the line has a way of pushing your own to-do list to the side. Turns out the people who fix that problem for a living are not immune to it. But now the world finally knows what we do, the sectors we work in, and the projects we're proud (and allowed) to share with you. The website is new, but the way we work is not. The Newmarket Difference is about getting things delivered, not just onto paper. That part has been here since day one, and it’s not changing. Have a look, we'd love to know what you think! https://lnkd.in/g2MjMH6i

We're hiring in Melbourne. Our Commercial and Procurement practice is growing, and we're building the team to match it. We're looking for people at Manager level and above to lead engagements across energy and transport. If you've led commercial strategy or taken procurements from inception to contract award and want to do that work closer to the decision, we'd love to hear from you. hello@newmarketadvisory.com.au

An amazing afternoon coming together as a team, and living up to our commitment for Newmarket Advisory to be a Force for Good. Thank you to The Big Umbrella Foundation for letting us play a small part in your incredibly important work. Turning food "waste" into real meals for those who need them is not only labour intensive (great to get us off our laptops for a day!) but an underappreciated and underfunded link in the food relief chain. Keep up the great work. A special thank you to Jacob and Jolene for organising. We can't wait to do it again.
Purpose. People. Positive Impact! A huge thank you to the incredible team from Newmarket Advisory for spending the day with us at The Big Umbrella Foundation’s Emergency Food Relief Centre. Together, we rescued surplus food, prepared hundreds of nutritious meals, and helped ensure that people experiencing hardship in our community receive food with dignity, care and compassion. Days like these demonstrate the power of corporate volunteering. Team building becomes something much more meaningful when your efforts directly support local families and individuals facing food insecurity. Thank you for rolling up your sleeves, embracing the challenge, and proving that when businesses and communities come together, amazing things happen. Together, we’re not just preparing meals—we’re building stronger, more connected communities. Thank you, Newmarket Advisory. #TheBigUmbrellaFoundation #TeamBuilding #CorporateVolunteering #CommunityImpact #FoodRelief #FoodRescue #ZeroHunger #SDGs #Melbourne #Volunteer #PurposeDriven #TogetherWeCan
