Never fly Vietnam Airlines.
Never fly Vietnam Airlines.
I bought a premium economy ticket. The fleet was old. My seat did not recline, there was no power or entertainment in my seat. The solution was an iPad that had to be hand held and only lasted 1 hour. It couldn’t be charged as I had no power in my seat. But it gets better. On the way home they downgraded us to economy because the plane didn’t have premium. There was no compensation provided. Eventually after arguing they offer a voucher for usd150. That did not cover the fare difference nor was it a refund. I have no use for a voucher particularly with an airline I will never travel again. I’m still in email arguments with them. They are clearly in trustworthy and a disgrace for an airline
Literally the worst customer service I…
Literally the worst customer service I have ever experienced in all my years of flying.
Paid for a couple of Premium Economy seats and they downgraded them to Economy with no explanation or offer of compensation.
So bad.
Never flying Vietnam Airlines again after this.
DO NOT TRAVEL WITH THIS AURLINE
It was so bad experience with this airlines. They just try to make money from passengers. At check in counter they find out the illogical ways to charge customers.
At Sydney airport they charged $300 for the luggage bag by saying that your bag can’t consider as a check in bag. It looks bigger. But it is so funny that at delhi airport same luggage bag considered as a check in bag by the same airlines.
On the top of it the service was poor and screens was not working as a result i travelled separately from my family.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO FLY WITH THIS AIRLINE.
37 min late
37 min late
The flight attendants pushed me twice on purpose just because when we reserved as a group of 49 they messed up the seat and I went there to translate that’s all
Charged for laptopbag, got threatened at the airport
I flew with China Eastern Airlines from Copenhagen to Hanoi. At check-in in Copenhagen, they didn't count my laptop bag as carry-on luggage, so I was able to keep it under the seat. However, on the return flight from Hanoi to Copenhagen, they forced me to pay nearly 200 dollars for my laptop bag. The staff at the check-in counter and at the gate were the same people. They threatened that if I didn't pay, I would miss my flight. The woman who made me pay for the laptop bag took the payment in her private account, I still have her name and bank details, but she didn't provide a receipt and hasn't emailed one either, so I can't file a complaint.
Never book a flight with Vietnam Airlines if you read this!
The Company i was flying with was China Eastern Airline not even Vietnam Airline , How can they charge me?
Small children are seperated from the parents if you do not pay extra.
We recently flew with Vietnam Airlines from Copenhagen to Bali.
We had invited our children and grandchildren on a holiday to Bali, but the journey there turned out to be fraught with frustration and poor treatment.
We were traveling with four children—aged 18 months, 4, 4, and 12—and on all four flights, three of these children were assigned seats at random, away from their parents.
It is simply poor form and unacceptable to charge nearly 8,000 DKK per ticket and yet fail to ensure that families and travel groups are seated together.
This is enough to make me consider alternatives for future trips to the East. It is simply unreasonable to have to pay an extra 500–1,500 DKK per ticket just to sit with the people you booked the trip with—especially when it involves children under 18 (and a flight lasting over 12 hours).
However, regarding the flight from Copenhagen to Bali, the Danish crew deserves great praise for doing everything they could to get us seated together; on the return journey, the staff in both Bali and Vietnam refused to help, forcing the parents to ask other passengers to swap seats so they could sit with their children.
It is simply not good enough.
Extortion at Hanoi Airport
I am a South African citizen, visiting Vietnam. I had an extremely bad experience at the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on Wednesday, the 12th of August.
Flight: Hanoi Noi Bai Int to Da Nang International
Flight No.: VN6071
Booking Reference: EHM536
We are 2 passengers flying under the above reference number. A member of the airline, who was not stationed at a check-in counter, accosted us at the check-in counter, trying to sell us upgraded seats. We kindly refused. We had two pieces of checked-in luggage (20 kg’s and 23 kg’s respectively), and one piece of hand luggage (12 kg’s) between the two of us.
The two check-in bags were sent through on the conveyor belt by the lady behind the check-in counter. She then asked us to place the single piece of hand luggage on the scale. Said member stepped in to say that the hand luggage was overweight and that we need to pay 600 000 VND in cash directly to him and subsequently check-in this piece of luggage. Before we had the opportunity to query this irregularity, our single piece of hand luggage had already been checked-in and was out of our reach.
We complied and paid in cash with the amount 1000 000 VND. The money was taken by said member and placed in his wallet. He gave us change from his wallet. We requested a receipt and the request was denied.
His demeanor and attitude toward us gave us the impression that if we did not comply, our luggage would be compromised. The printed luggage tags (attached) read the following weights: 20 kg, 23 kg and 35 kg.
We once again met the lady behind the check-in counter at boarding Gate 12. We requested to see the manager to query the luggage tags and the procedure for a receipt and handling of “overweight” luggage. The lady (who refused to give us her name) took out her personal device and called the Vietnam airlines member to the boarding Gate.
Said member could not explain why our request for a receipt was refused and why the luggage tag read 35 kg’s and not the correct weight.
We informed him that we will be lodging a complaint, as this experience brings all Vietnam Airlines’ protocols into disrepute.
I sent emails to the email addresses on the Vietnam airlines website requesting an urgent response as to how this matter will be dealt with and prevention methods, so that in the future, individuals are not extorted. I am yet to receive any valid feedback. It is now Monday, the 17th of August.
I fear that this is an ongoing occurrence to extort money from tourists and I will have to inform your government tourism agency of these irregularities and extortion occurring on an airline that carried the name of your country.
We traveled to Vietnam in good faith.
The experience on the plane is decent…
The experience on the plane is decent as far as leg room goes and flight attendants are nice enough. The rest of the operation is terrible. They are never on time, and then when you want to check in an hour before your flight they won’t let you and make you buy all these other tickets that triple the cost and add lots of headaches. Then hidden fees start springing up after you are already stuck with them and have bought multiple other plane tickets to get you to your original destination, but of course these fees only come up after you have bought the other tickets and are trying to check in to the next flights. As others have noted their customer service is absolutely abysmal, worst airline experience I have ever had other than maybe the now defunct spirit airlines in USA.
all show , poor service of able to book..!
been using Vietnam Airlines for 23 years. You have to when you live there and work there. for 23 years.
they've tried to morph into a first world airline, but it's not working,. they are still 2nd world at best.!
They're either not buying professionals to present and make the business work.
the websites a joke you never ending offers and special offers and upgrades, bonuses, like temu shit. and especially with the loyalty programme but it never works,.
every time I try and book a standard trip on their website it fails with no availability.
I'll address the service and class when flying with them in a different review.
The worst experience- 920 euro extra fee!
The airline charged my family an extra €920 for the return flight from Vietnam, even though we had a valid, paid-for reservation for that flight. They claimed they had cancelled our tickets—without notifying us—because we hadn't taken a different domestic flight over two weeks earlier! Our complaint was rejected.
Extremely disappointing customer service
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Vietnam Airlines based on my experience.
After experiencing a flight delay of more than 8 hours, I submitted a compensation claim under EU Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004, as my journey departed from the European Union.
For almost four weeks, I have been trying to obtain a meaningful response. Instead of receiving an assessment or decision, I have repeatedly received the same standard replies stating that my case had been forwarded to the "relevant department" and that I should continue to be patient. customer support has been unable to provide any useful information beyond generic template responses.
Based on the applicable EU passenger rights regulation and the circumstances of my case, I believe my compensation claim is justified. However, despite the time that has passed, no resolution has been provided.
Flight delays can happen, and I understand that. What I cannot accept is the way customer claims are handled afterwards. Weeks of waiting, no transparency, no clear communication, and no meaningful progress do not reflect the level of customer service I expect from an international airline.
If you ever need assistance after your flight, be prepared for long waiting times and repeated standard responses rather than genuine customer support.
Until Vietnam Airlines significantly improves the way it communicates with customers and handles legitimate compensation claims, I cannot recommend this airline.
Paid for tardiness
Well, we switched from the ever late and always delayed vietjet to the more expensive vietnam airlines.
They are currently delayed for our very short domestic flight. So, is the extra money worth the same hassle?
Very good service and the plane was…
Very good service and the plane was modern and clean.
The seats in economy are very comfortable, a lot of leg room and the price was reasonable.
Alas, the food was odd and inadequate.
On the Singapore to Hanoi there was either Pork or Fish.
On the Hanoi to Delhi they ran out of all meals besides seafood by the time they arrived at my seat.
As a result I couldn't eat anything on the plane.
On a bright note the lounge at Hanoi Airport was fantastic and the food was superb and highly nutritious so it balances it out.

After 8 months and many many emails
After 8 months and many many emails - all saying we are passing to the right department. We are still waiting for compensation for being stuck in Frankfurt, due to the Vietnam Airlines plane not being allowed to fly due to faults. Had to spend 10 hours daytime at the airport. Lufthanza said totally Vietnam Airlines fault - and best bit NOT - their desk did not open until 2pm. I will be posting now on a regular basis until I get paid.
Pray you dont need to get in contact…
Pray you dont need to get in contact with them, their customer service is a joke. Everytime you have a simple question, it can turn into several emails and endless hours in phone queue. When you finally get through, you get transferred around, its so freaking time consuming and a hassle to fly with them.
As Vietnamese frequently travelled via…
As Vietnamese frequently travelled via Vietnam airlines, I often had bad experiences with its service. Its food quality is getting worse. Not recommend the airline.
Just sharing our recent experience
Just sharing our recent experience to help others, especially anyone travelling with elderly parents or family members.
Please Think Twice Before Flying with VietJet flight.
My parents recently travelled with VietJet, and unfortunately their experience was disappointing. They did not receive the assistance we expected, and staff members were rude and unhelpful, which made what should have been a straightforward journey much more stressful for them.
I also spoke with some friends who had a similar experience, which is why I wanted to share this as a word of caution. Please keep in mind that this is based on our personal experiences.
Another thing to be aware of is that food on VietJet flights is not included in the ticket price unless you purchase it in advance. We also found it very difficult for my parents to get drinking water at the airport in Vietnam, which added to their discomfort.
If you're travelling with elderly parents, young children, or anyone who may need extra support like wheel chair, it may be worth considering these points when choosing an airline and planning your trip.
Many thanks
VN34 Munich–Hanoi: cancelled after boarding, no assistance provided, no compensation, total disrespect of EU regulation
After boarding VN34 from Munich to Hanoi on 21 May 2026, the aircraft attempted takeoff and had to return to the gate due to a technical problem. After 2 hours the captain announced the flight was cancelled, airport screens showed “cancelled”, luggage was returned, and we waited hours with no clear information while the flight was still online. Vietnam Airlines then delayed us for 36 hours to the next day, but the next day the flight was ultimately cancelled. No food voucher was provided and especially no assistance of any kind regarding itinerary rebooking. A phantomatic Vietnam Airlines "supervisor" at Munich Airport never dared to show his/her face, and VN does not have any offices in Europe which could assist. They just direct you to a Vietnamese call center...
We had to book alternative flights ourselves and pay way more than planned, of course...
I submitted a formal EU261 compensation claim immediately. More than one month later, after several emails and attached documents, I still have:
- No claim number
- No compensation paid
Only answers like “we forwarded your request to another department”, with no direct contact
Vietnam Airlines is blatantly ignoring to comply with EU Regulation!
DON'T BOOK A VIETNAM AIRLINES FLIGHT TO/FROM EUROPE AS YOU WILL BE LEFT TOTALLY ALONE AND GROUNDED.
Generous seating space, inadequate catering
The aircrafts on both legs of the trip SIN - HANOI - DEL were modern and clean with generous seating in economy class.
Cabin crew are also great.
Unfortunately, the catering service was unacceptable ; on the flight from Singapore to Hanoi there was only beef or fish (this on a flight where half of the passengers are Indians who transit in Hanoi to other destinations in India).
On the flight from Hanoi to Delhi they ran out of Vegetsrian meals and had only fish meals (!)
