With a pending move in the works
With a pending move in the works, I have used UHaul of Durham for boxes, truck rentals etc.
The employees there have been very helpful and friendly. Their suggestions have made the daunting process of moving a lot smoother.
I’d like to give a special “shout out” to Ike. He was such a kind person with which to work. He assisted me in viewing the truck size that we will be renting and answered all questions about handling it through a multi state move.
A coworker even commented that I had the best employee! He is obviously well liked among his peers. Thank you, again, for your help and kindness, Ike.
You restored my faith in customer service!
To be honest the truck and are moving…
To be honest the truck and are moving experience was fine but to know that they charge more mileage than what you use I was allotted A thousand Miles and only use 900 and they do not give refunds. That's $100 out of my pocket after the stress and moving that's ridiculous and it's b******* and I will never use you all again!
U-Haul's name inspired my trust. Its Moving Help service left me stranded
I booked movers through U-Haul's Moving Help marketplace because I trusted the U-Haul brand. I assumed that booking through a major national company would provide some measure of accountability and protection if something went wrong. Instead, I had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever encountered.
Before booking, I confirmed with the moving company that it could accommodate my required afternoon time window. The owner assured me it could. He also encouraged me to book directly with him to avoid paying Moving Help's commission. I declined because I believed booking through U-Haul would provide an additional layer of protection.
On moving day, the provider informed me that he didn't have enough workers and ultimately canceled the job. I was closing on the sale of my house the following morning. I had a rented truck, a house full of belongings, and only hours remaining to empty the property.
When I contacted U-Haul's Moving Help service, I expected urgent assistance. Instead, I encountered little empathy and no meaningful effort to resolve the emergency. The representative offered me a list of other movers to call myself.
I explained that I needed Moving Help to actually find a replacement provider who could fulfill my reservation. I didn't have time to start calling companies one by one in the late afternoon, hoping someone might be available immediately.
I was told Moving Help was simply a neutral third party with no responsibility for the conduct of the movers.
That was astonishing. U-Haul lends its nationally recognized name to this marketplace, which facilitates bookings and earns revenue from connecting customers with service providers. Yet when one of those providers abandoned a confirmed job, the response was essentially that I was on my own.
The financial consequences were substantial. I spent hours desperately searching for replacement movers and paid approximately three times the original price for emergency help. I had to rent a dumpster and discard expensive furniture and decor I had intended to donate. I was unable to remove all my belongings before closing, and the buyers demanded a $2,000 concession.
But there is another aspect of this experience that every prospective customer should know about.
When I complained and sought a refund, Moving Help told me I had to cancel the reservation. I specifically objected because I was not canceling—the mover had canceled on me. Nevertheless, the reservation was apparently processed as canceled on my end.
When I subsequently tried to review the mover, Moving Help informed me that customers cannot leave reviews for orders that were not completed.
**That means a mover can accept a reservation, fail to show up, leave a customer stranded on moving day, and potentially escape a negative review on the very platform where future customers evaluate that mover.**
How many serious failures are missing from Moving Help's ratings because the jobs were never completed?
When I raised my concerns, Moving Help repeatedly emphasized that the providers are independent contractors and that its policies are disclosed in the terms and conditions.
But my complaint isn't simply about the independent mover. It's about the service being offered under the U-Haul name, the absence of meaningful assistance when that service failed, and a review policy that prevents customers like me from warning others.
**U-Haul cannot reasonably expect customers to trust its brand when booking services and then expect that brand to mean nothing when those services fall apart.**
I trusted U-Haul. That trust cost me dearly.
I would strongly caution anyone considering U-Haul's Moving Help service to understand that the U-Haul name does not necessarily mean U-Haul will step in when a mover fails to fulfill a reservation. In my experience, when I needed help most, I was entirely on my own.
Horrible Experience
Odd how I couldn't leave a review on U-haul's website. They couldn't find my contract number, lol
I doubt this will even be noticed since all their reviews are terrible but there is a reason why. They entered my trip into the system incorrectly and charged me too much. Their fault 100%. I am telling you I have never dealt with such horrible customer service. I couldn't get ANYONE to call me back for over a week and finally when I got ahold of someone, they refused to refund me and said it was my fault even though TWO different employees confirmed the wrong information for my trip. Save yourself the inconvenience and hassle and go with ANY other rental company otherwise they will intentionally scam you as well. What a shame U-haul. You should be embarrassed of your location and its employees
Never Again
My Uhaul Experience.
I reserved a 15’ truck online with Ace Hardware, Port Huron. I needed a tow dolly but Ace Hardware thinks they’re too much trouble, and no longer stock tow dollys. Ace came up with a new figure for my truck rental . . $50 more than the price I confirmed online. I objected, and the Ace clerk swung a computer screen around and said, “Here is a number you can call.” I called the number, and waited to be connected. In the meantime, the clerk called Uhaul and was so loud I had to go outside. I shouting match ensued beween me and the clerk in a dual of uncontrolled rage.
I eventually got keys to the truck, and pulled to the front of Ace Hardware to load pads and a dolly. When I opened the rear door of the truck , the store owner/manager lectured me for 5 minutes (with a stern and paternal inflection). about having my e-bike standing up in the truck. I waited till he was through with his lecture, and he then threw in the pads and dolly. I then laid my $1000 bike down on the pads and said, “Sir, I was waiting for the pads to lay my bike down”. His stern lecture was unneeded and uncalled for.
I noticed, at pick-up, the truck fuel gage was on empty. The Ace clerk gave another number to call, but I was losing patience and had a trip to make.. Fortunately there was a gas station within a hundred yards. I filled the truck up. The total was nearly $90. I’ve kept the reciepts.
I then went to the Yeager St. location in Port Huron to p/u a tow dolly. I hooked up the dolly. Lights didn’t work. I tried the big trailer. Lights didn’t work. I hooked back up to the tow dolly and was forced to haul my car with no dolly lights. I was uncomfortable with no trailer lights, so I quickly sold my car and returned the tow dolly. Never used it. As of yesterday, there was 4 separate charges on my bank account totaling nearly $320.00 from Yeager St. for a $69.00 tow dolly that didn’t work and wasn’t used.
I returned the truck to Uhaul on Burlingame (near 28th) and parked in the “truck return” area. I went inside, and the agent said I came in through the wrong door . .. and to move the truck from the “truck return” area to “another” area. I went inside and the agent said, “You’re all set”. The next day I noticed a $170 charge from this business on my account.
So much for my last Uhaul experience.
Renting a U-Haul was the worse…
Renting a U-Haul was the worse experience ever. Had to download an app and enter three different people’s names and contact info to get the code to the key box. What used to take a few minutes to pick up, took an hour.
The truck was low on gas and nasty inside. Apparently they replaced the windshield at some point and left glass above the steering column. The truck smelled bad and there were two rotting oranges in the console.
Mobile pick up is ridiculously…
Mobile pick up is ridiculously difficult to use. Took us 30 minutes to figure it out after finally getting through to someone to help us using the chat option. Then, I tried to call them the day before returning the truck to ask if we could extend the drop off time from 8 am to 10 am. Literally took HOURS to get through to someone. Tried to reach out via chat, and phone. Finally got a call back just to get hung up on during them transferring my call. I will not rent from UHaul again!!!!
No Accountability from U-Haul for a Dangerous Situation
I reserved a truck and two moving companies through U-Haul. I ended up needing to take a bigger truck because they didn’t have my truck in stock. Then, my drop off location was moved after I picked up the truck. When the third-party movers arrived for the unload at my new apartment, I greeted them at my door only to find one of the movers relieving himself in the middle of the street while on the phone with me. I overlooked the urination it because everyone is different in terms of their social graces and one odd infraction doesn’t automatically make someone a bad person or bad at their job.
Unfortunately, this was a miscalculation on my part. The movers (C.O.A. Logistics) made me Venmo them an additional $100 as a “walk up the stairs fee” for my porch steps. They attempted to have me pay $250 as a “walk up the stairs fee” for the second floor. I declined and asked them to just bring items into first floor rooms. They continued to badger me about taking items up to the second floor for a fee. About 30 min into the two-hour job, they kept coming to me complaining about how heavy certain objects were and insisting I should pay them more for those objects. The one man kept repeating “well this should be a nice tip then” while becoming visibly more and more irritated.
I finally set a firm limit with C.O.A. and said “Please leave any objects in the truck you don’t feel you are being paid adequately for and finish what you are willing to do. Other than our agreed-upon two hours of work and the tip I set aside, I do not have more money to give you.” They ignored this and continued to complain and badger me for money. They were arguing with and cursing at each other outside. When I went outside after the ordeal, I noticed that my side walk was covered in spit.
I am a young woman, was alone, and started to feel unsafe and uncomfortable. I asked them to stop working and to leave. They insisted they would finish the job and defended that it should be more money. I had to tell them to leave multiple times. They refused to leave unless I gave them the $100 fee and the payment code. So I did.
I called U-Haul and they declined to refund any portion of their products and services to me because they said this should be handled by their sister company, MovingHelp, that manages the moving contractors. The told me that I would not get a refund because I had chosen to pay the extra fee and gave out the payment code. They told me that I should have had the movers leave by calling 911 rather than giving into their demands.
I’m Autistic and was so overstimulated and dissociated by the ordeal that I had to call my ex-husband and his girlfriend to help me finish unloading and to return this massive truck. I forgot to pack 6 of the moving pads in the ordeal. No one could confirm for me if I would be penalized for returning the truck a few hours late and I was told I had to go retrieve the pads and return them.
I’m a master social worker and I want every woman to know that what I did was the right thing. If you sense that cops won’t get to you to help fast enough and you have a quicker and safer way to safety, you are not wrong for choosing it and you should not be penalized for it. U-Haul and these movers should be held accountable. When I pushed back and asserted this to the MovingHelp representative, she hung up on me.
Do NoT book UHAul moving service or their trucks
I booked moving service thru UHaul and the movers called me before 10 minutes of the appointed time and cancelled the move. The trucks didn't have any locks and I had to sit in the parking lot with the things from 3 PM to 8 PM till I found another helper. There was no help from UHaul and they had the audacity to tell that they are just a "broker service" and they are not liable for the vendors that they show or book for us. "UHaul" if you cannot deliver what you show in the ad, then please do not show that. Also if you are just a broker why did you charge my card even before the services are delivered. If you are taking money from me then it is an agreement that you will deliver.
Double bookings and last minute calls
my 75-year-old mother reserved a U-Haul for October 31 morning two months in advance. At 10 o’clock on October 31 my mother got a phone call letting her know that the truck was double booked and was no longer there/ not available. She could have it in the evening if she would like. My mother, being 75 years old, had hired two young men to help her move her furniture for the morning when she was supposed to have her truck. When I called Alicia at the Hamilton Ontario phone number to let her know that we were cancelling my mother‘s reservation because this was unacceptable and now my mother was left without the means to move her things. Alicia was very uncaring and unapologetic. I would never trust this company again. I highly recommend looking for another truck rental company.
Very Disappointing Experience as a…
Very Disappointing Experience as a U-Haul Dealer I would strongly encourage anyone considering becoming a U-Haul dealer to do their research and think carefully before committing. My husband became a dealer around the end of June, possibly earlier, and the experience has been far from what was promised.
He has handled numerous U-Haul rentals, dealt with the issues that come with the job, and put time and effort into the business. Yet, he has not received payment since August. It is unacceptable to expect someone to continue providing a service, handling rentals, and investing their time into a company without being paid in a timely manner.
On top of that, the system frequently has issues, rentals get held up, and dealing with customer service has been extremely frustrating. Instead of receiving professional help when problems arise, he has experienced rude treatment, been accused of having an attitude simply for trying to address issues, and even had employees hang up on him. There is a difference between a dealer asking legitimate questions and a company representative treating that dealer disrespectfully. A business should involve communication, accountability, reliable systems, and timely payment. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience. Dealers are putting in the work and helping U-Haul operate, and they deserve to be treated with respect and compensated for their time and services.
We have also heard of other dealers leaving U-Haul for other opportunities, which makes these concerns even more discouraging. My advice is to do your research, ask detailed questions about payment timelines and dealer support, and get everything in writing before signing up. Based on our experience, the time, frustration, and uncertainty have not been worth it. A company should value the people helping run its business, not leave them chasing payments and struggling to get basic assistance. I would not recommend becoming a U-Haul dealer based on what we have experienced.
I came home from being out only to find…
I came home from being out only to find a uhaul tractor trailer parked slightly over the end of my driveway and I have a narrow driveway so I had to drive up on my lawn to get in my driveway. The driver was outside of the vehicle so I asked him if he could move the tractor trailer back a bit because I didn't know how long he would be there and I needed to go out later in the day and didn't want to have a problem getting in an out of my driveway. It seemed like a simple request but I guess not for the driver he waved his arms at me in an aggressive manner and when I was unlocking my door to my house he was yelling at me telling me he didn't care that I had to drive up on the lawn. I ignored him while I was going to take a picture of where his truck was but he kept yelling so I asked him why are you so upset I asked you to move the truck back a bit because I had a hard time getting in my driveway and he again said the didn't care. I took the photo and told him I'm calling your supervisor because your behavior was nasty. He then called his supervisor and lied to the supervisor telling them I told him his truck was over my driveway he continued to yell at me and I got afraid of him so I went in my house and called uhaul to file a complaint. I started giving my information to a man and a woman broke into the call who raised her voice saying we already talked the driver and what your saying is different than what he is saying so I said to her who are you and she said his supervisor and she then said if we need anything further from you we will call you which is interesting since they didn't ask me my phone number. I realized then that the complacent supervisor was the one who allows this driver to be aggressive, rude and unprofessional because she was the same way. What a horrible company I'd never use them for anything. My biggest concern was such and angry aggressive person driving on the road with a large tractor trailer was terrifying. I am confident this is not the first complaint about this driver and will not be the last because of the unprofessional complacent supervisor.
I booked trailers at three different…
I booked trailers at three different locations and all three were moved last minute to locations that weren't even close. What should have been an easy and short move has now become a nightmare. Its too late to switch my plan now so im stuck going three hours and 180 miles out of my way. The added $100 in fuel alone made this trip not worth it.
Do yourself a favor and seek alternative options now.
This rating is regarding the insurance…
This rating is regarding the insurance they charge for their containers. Using their movers, my coffee table arrived broken. I filed a claim and was informed that the insurance did not cover that type of damage. I should have saved the money I spent on insurance to cover the cost of replacing the items they broke.
When a storage auction goes wrong, who holds U-Haul accountable?
Nearly my entire five-bedroom household was auctioned for $335.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Clifton Park, Store #800073, at 433 Kinns Road, Clifton Park, NY.
After moving out of our home, I placed virtually everything my family owned into four storage rooms at this facility. We're talking about the contents of a fully furnished five-bedroom house, including the basement.
Furniture, bedroom sets, appliances, flat-screen televisions, electronics, designer clothing, my children's belongings, business equipment, and decades of family photographs and childhood memories.
In June 2026, U-Haul auctioned our belongings. According to the auction information I've obtained, the two grouped lots sold for a combined $335.
Yes, $335 for practically everything my family owned.
I acknowledge that my storage account was delinquent. However, delinquency does not eliminate a storage company's legal obligation to follow the required procedures before selling someone's property.
The first round of lien-sale notices contained errors. The auction was subsequently rescheduled, and my review of the later records revealed additional concerns, including an incorrect mailing address and the absence of documentation establishing the claimed certified mailings.
Despite repeated requests to U-Haul's management and legal department, I have not received satisfactory answers or the complete documentation I've requested.
This matter remains unresolved and is now the subject of arbitration.
What troubles me is how many other families may have experienced something similar without knowing that storage auctions are governed by specific laws or that improperly conducted sales may be legally challenged.
I am not disputing that I owed storage fees. I am questioning whether U-Haul followed the law before selling nearly everything my family owned.
Consumers deserve transparency, proper notice, and accountability.
HIT MY VEHICLE WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY - horrible !!!!
I would give negative stars if I could. The U-Haul driver hit my vehicle while it was parked with no one in it. We had to call the police because the driver would not take accountability for what he did, even though we have it on VIDEO!!! (Thank god for video). A family member asked the Uhaul driver to park the boxes on the right side of the driveway. Uhaul is arguing with my insurance company that because we “dictated” where on the driveway the boxes should be dropped off (mind you, my driveway is the width of the moon), that they are not responsible. I’m not sure what world they live in, but the operator of the vehicle is the one responsible for hitting a parked car!!!!!
I attempted twice to rent a Uhaul truck…
I attempted twice to rent a Uhaul truck for moving locally on a weekend. Both experiences were a nightmare. There are 2 Uhaul rental places within a mile and neither are open on weekends when most people move. One only offers the keyless ID pickup. IF you can get cell service there, they won’t let you “edit” your estimated mileage although there is an edit option, the Live Chat is useless, long wait for replies, you call and long hold times for answer. Meanwhile you are trying to MOVE. Both day both agents talked down to me as if I was doing something wrong. I was asked if I needed to be “walked through it” by one of them. I told her unless she was showing up to build a cell tower there was nothing to walk me through. Uhaul needs to operate out of location where they provide physical customer service. HUMAN BEINGS on location to serve the people they are charging and providing their business to. Uhaul has lost that.
**Extremely disappointing experience
**Extremely disappointing experience – Unjustified charges!**
I rented a U-Haul truck to move a very short distance of approximately 30 km, yet I was charged around **$300 for 109 miles**! This is completely unreasonable for such a short move.
I am extremely disappointed with this experience and the lack of transparency in the billing. The mileage charged does not match the distance I expected to travel.
I strongly recommend not dealing with this company! would think twice before renting from U-Haul again.
**I feel completely ripped off.
Greatest customer service ever
I have recently used uhaul to move to Grants pass. I have had one of the best customer experiences ever!!! Center# 700080 in Grants pass. 2 employees there have to one well above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. I cannot express with words the amount of gratitude I have for Hezekiah and Anthony Mayfield. These 2 gentleman were helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and went above and beyond with their customer service. I don't usually write reviews. They bring a whole new meaning to customer satisfaction. They deserve to be recognized for the service they provide. I witnessed them giving the same kind of service to other customers as well. I return often due to my storage unit at the facility. The interaction with customers I witness everytime I am there is awesome. Thank you for all your help guys!!
One way rental for one way trips.
I would like to have the option to rent a truck just for one day, whether for a one way trip or returning to the same rental office. I had to pay for two days, because I was renting for a one way trip. I only used the truck for four hours, not even a full day and I had to pay for two days. Plus, U-Haul would like us to pay for insurance coverage and all these other protection fees, in addition. Times are hard, on everyone, we do not have all these extra money to basically throw away.
