We were unfortunately very disappointed…
We were unfortunately very disappointed with our stay. The concept itself has a lot of potential and could have been really nice, but the overall experience was let down by poor cleanliness, overcrowding and very poor value for money.
The cleanliness was by far one of the biggest issues. When we arrived, there were stains and dirt on the walls and furniture, and the glass partition in our room was covered in greasy handprints all over. Dust all over as well. I wish I could’ve attached photos to this review.
There was also no cleaning of the room during our stay. In general, several areas around the hotel did not seem to be regularly cleaned or tidied. For example, there was rubbish, including cigarette packets, lying on the grass near the outdoor pool. It simply did not feel clean or well maintained. And we saw a rat running inside at night.
The water park was also far too crowded. There were so many people that it became genuinely unpleasant and, at times, felt unhygienic rather than relaxing or enjoyable. It seems like far too many guests are allowed in at the same time for the facilities to cope properly.
The food was extremely expensive considering the quality, which we found very poor. At the same time, there was no refrigerator in the room and no shop where you could buy a few basic groceries, snacks or drinks. This leaves guests with very limited alternatives to buying the overpriced food on site.
Another frustrating detail was that housekeeping knocked on our door at 10:00 AM on the day of check-out. Considering that there had been no room cleaning during our stay, it felt particularly strange that housekeeping suddenly appeared so early when we were due to leave.
Overall, this could have been a good experience because the basic concept is actually great. Unfortunately, it feels as though the hotel has focused on getting as many guests through the doors as possible without putting enough effort into cleanliness, maintenance, food quality and the overall guest experience.
With better attention to these things, it could be a really nice place. As it is now, however, our experience has left us with absolutely no desire to return.
worst aquapark ive been to
worst aquapark ive been to, there are 2 pools otherwise its a botanic garden restaurants, shops etc. we wanted to try the spa you didnt have to pay before and there wasnt any price shown then when we want to leave they told me i have to pay 8 more euro just for going into 1 spa that i didnt even know before. There is also no hygiene anywhere there were blooded panties in the changing rooms etc. dont recomend going here its shit also the slides dont even slide you
Horrible experience
Horrible experience. Will not come again. Long lines, poor quality of food yet high prices.
Needs modernization.
Poor information display.
Nervy lifeguards blowing whistles far too often.
Save your money for a better experience elsewhere.
Impressive concept, but a very disappointing experience
After one full day and one night at Tropical Islands, we unfortunately left very disappointed. The former airship hangar and tropical environment are genuinely impressive, but considering the price, the overall experience did not live up to our expectations. By around 3 PM on our first day, we were already considering leaving early.
Customer service & information
Our first receptionist came across as rude and dismissive, making us uncomfortable asking questions. Unfortunately, we experienced similar attitudes from several employees and rarely felt genuinely welcomed.
Communication was also poor for an international resort. Some information was only in German, some staff could not communicate with us in English, and we received contradictory answers. Opening hours online did not always match reality or the signs, while some attractions had no clearly displayed times at all.
Hygiene
This was one of our biggest concerns. We did not find soap in the shower areas to properly wash before entering the pools, and we also encountered toilet handwashing facilities without soap.
At the buffet, we did not see hand sanitiser before guests handled shared serving utensils. In a resort used by thousands of people every day, we expected much better access to basic hygiene facilities.
Our room was nice and the bed comfortable, but cleaning was disappointing. There was visible dust around the ventilation, and the toilet brush still contained visible faecal residue from previous use.
Activities & Spa
Several popular activities closed surprisingly early. We understand that 24-hour access does not mean every attraction operates around the clock, but as overnight guests we expected more to remain available in the evening, especially after day visitors had left.
The sauna/spa was also disappointing. Children were running and playing, and we did not see staff enforcing the quiet atmosphere expected in a spa area.
Check-out & parking
We deliberately got up early and prepared to leave within 24 hours to avoid another €8 parking charge. However, the self-service machines for settling our wristband purchases were not working properly, forcing us into a long queue.
The process delayed us by around 30 minutes. We eventually left approximately 15 minutes beyond the 24-hour parking period and were charged another €8 for a full additional day.
Being charged another full day when the delay was largely caused by non-functioning machines and the checkout queue felt extremely unreasonable and was a frustrating end to the stay.
Overall
The concept and building are incredible, there was plenty of space, and we generally saw lifeguards around the pools. However, some wet areas were extremely slippery, particularly between the outdoor and indoor areas.
Unfortunately, the impressive surroundings could not compensate for the poor service, confusing information, language barriers, hygiene and cleaning concerns, early closing activities and frustrating checkout.
We genuinely wanted to enjoy Tropical Islands, but the experience simply did not match the price.
Unfortunately, we would not return.
Our experience has been severely…
Our experience has been severely impacted by two major issues: misleading communication from their front desk staff during check-in and repeated violations of our privacy.
1. Misleading Information Regarding Spending Credit and Rates
During check-in, the receptionist explicitly informed us that we received a credit of €250 per person on our wristbands. We were literally told: "You get €250 per person on your band, and once that is finished, you have to top it up and pay yourself." Based on this explanation, we were under the clear impression that this credit/package was included in the cost of our stay (all-inclusive). At no point was it mentioned that this was merely a post-payment credit limit that we would have to pay back out of pocket upon checkout. Discovering at checkout that this is an open bill is a result of misleading communication, which led us to make spending decisions we otherwise would not have made.
2. Repeated Violations of Privacy and Rest (Security Entering the Tent 3 Times)
On three separate occasions, security personnel entered our tent without permission due to a triggering fire alarm. This severely disrupted our peace, privacy, and overall sense of security. Having security enter our private sleeping area three times without a proper or permanent resolution from the resort is completely unacceptable for a hospitality establishment.
Do German staff invented resting bit€h face?
I had high expectations for this place, but the customer service was by far the biggest disappointment of our stay.
The resort itself is okay-ish, and the pools are great, but the food selection is only 2/5 stars. Unfortunately, the overall experience was overshadowed by the attitude of many employees. Several staff members were unfriendly, rarely smiled, and at times came across as impatient or even rude when we were simply ordering food or paying. Some even yelled at customers. 🤯 Yes, I’m talking about the restaurant and reception staff. 👎🏽🤮
The lifeguards also seemed far more focused on blowing their whistles than creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The constant whistles—sometimes every few seconds—made it difficult to enjoy the pools and slides.
It’s a shame because the concept and the resort itself are actually good. Unfortunately, the customer service was very poor. Hospitality should make guests feel welcome, but instead it felt like customer service wasn’t part of the experience. Or did Germans invent the resting b*tch face? ☠️
Overall rating: 1/5 stars.
I sincerely hope management invests more in customer service training.Or maybe it was just the staff “Germaning” a little too hard? 😬🤔
Beautiful but expensive and with worthless service
It is a fantastic place, really huge enough to get lost in it. The plants and the pools were great. So were the slides. BUT
- The bus that was supposed to be connected with the train just did not come. The driver was having lunch… we lost nearly one hour at the station waiting (together with a big bunch of other people, some of which opted for taxi or Uber before the bus arrived)
- The entry was confusing, no clear instructions and nobody that easily could help into the right direction.
- the changing rooms are not easy to keep closed. Good idea but not well functioning
- The lockers are a pure plague! A large number of those don’t work. For some, you see it as they are tagged as broken. For others, they just dont work. There was a huge bunch of people trying to find a solution and nobody from the property to help. In general, the personnel were far from happy to help. Even there 40 minutes passed before we managed to find a working locker
- the main slides were not functioning. Out of the bigger slides, only one was working
- Two out of three checkout terminals were broken.
- Restaurants close at 9 PM. Unclear why when the pools close 10PM and the location does marketing for being open until 11.
- The food court did not offer anything without gluten (they probably did but not when we arrived too short to closing time)
- The bus from the islands to the station was Not at all connected with the train either so we had to wait more than half an hour at the station, again.
In short, the guys that own the place should get some proper service in place to keep up with the wonderful infrastructure as such.
The place is simply too expensive for that extremely low level of service and organisation
Very disappointing experience – poor customer service and not worth the money
We visited Tropical Islands for just one day and unfortunately left feeling extremely disappointed.
1. Booking issue and terrible customer service.
When booking through the website, we were offered a 2-for-1 promotion. The booking failed, so we called customer service. They told us to make a new booking and send an email so we could be refunded for the first one. At the end of our visit, we went to reception because we hadn’t received any response. The woman at the desk was incredibly rude. She never even looked up at us and just kept sorting wristbands while repeatedly saying, “Can you just give it one or two days? I can’t do anything.” No effort was made to check our case or help us in any way.
2. Breakfast confusion and rude staff.
Our day tickets were supposed to include breakfast. We were told to check in before entering the buffet. The employee at the entrance became visibly annoyed when we explained that we had day tickets instead of a hotel room number. He treated us very disrespectfully. To make matters worse, it appears we may have been charged for the breakfast anyway, but no one could explain the charges or help us understand what happened.
3. Drink bottle was a waste of money.
We paid €19.90 for a refillable bottle that was supposed to give us access to over 100 different drink flavors every 45 minutes. In reality, the machines barely worked. There was no ice, and most of the machines only offered one or two flavors. It was nowhere near what was advertised.
4. Outdoor pools were closed without explanation.
Several outdoor pools were closed. When we asked staff why, the only answer we got was, “We’re going to check the weather.” What does that even mean? Later, the only outdoor pool that was open was closed at 5:30 PM without any explanation.
5. Extremely overpriced.
Everything inside is incredibly expensive. The prices for both food and drinks are unreasonable, and the food itself wasn’t good at all. It certainly wasn’t worth the price.
Overall, this was a very frustrating experience. The poor customer service was the biggest disappointment, and for the amount of money we spent, we expected a much higher standard. We would not recommend Tropical Islands and would not return.
Checkin was 1 big confusion.
Checkin was 1 big confusion.
The 3 automated, only 1 was working and after standing in line for 20min it stopped working, so we went to manually checkin with 1 room booked and our son as day guest. After another 45 min we arrived at the counter where the man checked us into the room but refused to check our son in on the day ticket, so we were forced to another line for another 30 min, which just ruined the stay, the room tent had lots of stains and we decided not to sleep there, food was necessarily but not good.
All in all disappointing.
Threatend&harassed by two aggressive persons - employees do nothing
We were harassed several times by two rowdy, extremely aggressive individuals who threatened to beat us up. We asked the nearest staff member for help. However, the security guards who were promised never showed up. We then went to the information desk ourselves, explained what had happened, and described the individuals. We were immediately told that they had already been reported multiple times and had harassed or threatened other visitors. We were also told that no further action would be taken and that, on management’s instructions, they did not want to issue a warning to such individuals—let alone expel them from the facility—since, to quote them verbatim, these people actually bring in money for the company! When we asked whether something actually had to happen first, we were told—again, verbatim—that “we just shouldn’t let them get away with it.” We were then left standing there with these unbelievable statements. Stunned, we ended our visit. It’s unbelievable that potential perpetrators of violence are allowed to run rampant for the sake of the company’s own financial interests, while its own house rules are trampled underfoot. It should be clear why we won’t be coming back. The fact that several attractions were closed without notice, that numerous people were smoking inside the grounds, and that, in general, the staff didn’t seem very motivated to take care of things suddenly doesn’t seem so bad after all.
Cockroach-infested rip-off
Cockroach-infested rip-off, stay away!
I paid 290 Euros for a single night in a “premium” double room. It was a heartlessly furnished, dirty room on ground level, surrounded by screaming children with windows facing the public. But the real cherry on top were the giant cockroaches, which started crawling out from behind the furniture as soon as we turned the lights down. There was nobody at the information desk, so we left. Tropical Islands is unwilling to offer any kind of refund, they unempathically explained that the cockroaches were a completely normal and acceptable part of the tropical experience. Outrageous!
Further, I had paid an extra 170 Euros for the “all inclusive” package. Like a good guest, I did the online check-in and retrieved my bracelet from the check-in machine. At the restaurant, I was told I need to go all the way back to the entrance to get an additional armband and refill cups to use the restaurant. So there was 0 consideration put in for those customers who are willing to pay the most and use online check-in, which is all in their interest. The lady at the information desk was rude and cold, made me wait unnecessarily while chatting with her colleague about mundane matters. Once we got into the “restaurant” it turned out it was a buffet with mediocre, cantine-style food, which was mostly the same for lunch and dinner.
The only good things were the sauna, steam room, and lagoon. All are available without the hassle and at a fraction of the cost elsewhere.
Awful place
Awful place. The shop is shut so it’s impossible to get anything to eat or drink except at extortionate cost in the dome. The dome is dirty and smelly and everything is broken.
Very poor quality and service. Yet very very expensive
DONT DO IT
DONT DO IT! It’s so extremely expensive. One thing is that you pay a stupid amount of money just for staying and having a place, but everything inside also costs so much that it’s insane.
The food is literally shit. Nothing is frishly made and it is insane what you have to pay.
Everything is broken inside the place, and it is obvious that they don’t even care they just want your money. Please. There are 10.000 better places to pay money for than this.
Great concept, terrible execution on the business side
Subscribed to the newsletter expecting actual usable promo codes. The code didn’t work. Called support — the agent asked me to send a screenshot and said it would take “at least 2 days” because the case needs to be forwarded to Spain. For a promo code. In 2025.
The website feels like it’s running on a legacy PHP stack from 2010. The entire digital experience screams “we don’t have a proper engineering team.” Broken codes, slow support, manual escalation workflows for trivial issues — this isn’t a technology problem, it’s a priorities problem.
There’s a feedback survey at the end of the booking flow, but I’d bet money nobody reads the results. Why would they? Tropical Islands has a near-monopoly in the Berlin region. There’s no competitive pressure to actually care about customer satisfaction. The whole sales funnel is designed to extract money, not deliver value. The newsletter exists to push you toward purchases, not to reward loyalty.
If you’re going to position yourself as a premium resort experience, act like one.
It has an amazing potential, but DON'T go.
It has an amazing potential, but just lacks quality at some important points. Service is just, none existing.
1. We had trouble checking in, the information level regarding this was a joke, took like 45 minutes but succeded in the end. Why? We don't know.
2. Our bracelets could not open our door (luckily the key could), annoying but not that big of a hassle. We went to the reception to fix it - service level was again very bad - ended with "we hope"... Did not work, and we gave up about that.
3. Dirty glass in the room, to few glasses/cups/towels.
4. Towel heater did not work. Called the "Please call us in you need anything at all number". "We will send someone" they said, never showed up. We called again the day after, but the phone just ended on voicemail. Send an e-mail, never received and answer - thats a week ago now.
5. Food, goods, services, games, you name it everything is just overpriced beyond whats reasonable. 5 euro for 0.5L of coke? Joke. I'll just grab some water then, is there some water fountains in one of Europes best countries regarding tap water? Nope, cause they want you to buy.... Coke, monster, beers, at overprice.
6. Food just wasnt... Worth the price. Cafeteria level, restaurant prices. Is there an alternative? Not really, and I know thats why the prices are unfair - but why not make them more fair, and get people to buy more?
7. The smell... Jesus christ on a motorbike. It stinks in the arcade area, like puke smell beyond compare. And we had to go through it every day to come to the Ohana where we lived.
8. Again, the service... Went to the Ohana bar/restaurant to book some bowling at like 10.15 in the morning. All the signs/commercial boards said "Happy hour from 10 to X", but no one was there, they were all busy with the breakfast buffet. Thats fair in some way, but then dont start happy our at that time. A women in front of us wanted to buy something because of the happy hour, but they declined her service, what on earth kind of service is that.
9. It's cooooold, if the sun is not outside heating the dome. We had one day with the sun, but the rest of the days was cloudy and very cold. Our children didn't want to swim in after a few hours each day as they were freezing. It kind of ruins the whole concept (It's called Tropical Islands, right?), and i'm pretty sure they are lying with their temperatures as well.
10. The lifeguards are plenty, but negative as hell. They are not there to make people have fun, thats for sure. Constantly blowing their whistles like they are getting attacked in a dark alley in the poor part of Chicago. Moaning about people sitting on each others shoulders... In the water...
To be honest, I could go on. We were there for 5 days, and im pretty sure se are never going back. It's just way to pricey. Its not to pricey if the above was fixed, then I could accept it. But they charge a price way above what matches their service, and it's regarding everything. It's not a good way of doing business, in my opinion.
it was great when we where there i…
it was great when we where there i enjoyed all the slides and everything in general had lots of fun
Overall disappointing
We are a family of 5 from Denmark who stayed at Tropical Islands two years ago and were very satisfied with our experience at that time. This makes our current stay particularly disappointing, as the standard and level of service are significantly below what we previously experienced and expected.
First of all, the elevators were not working for most of our stay. This was causing major difficulties, especially as it was not clearly stated at the time of booking that guests staying at Ohana must walk a very long distance to reach Tropical Islands. Furthermore, it was not disclosed that access requires going up and down many sets of stairs — even if the elevators had been functioning.
This lack of information is particularly problematic for us, as we were traveling with a small child of 4 years old who was not able to manage so many stairs. Additionally, I am pregnant and have great difficulty going up and down the many staircases, especially while the elevators remained out of order.
Upon arrival on December 26, the check-in facilities at Ohana were also not functioning. As a result, we had to carry all of our luggage through the entire Tropical Islands complex, which was extremely inconvenient and physically demanding under the circumstances described above.
In addition to these major accessibility issues, we were disappointed to find that basic facilities in our accommodation were not properly prepared. There was no soap available in the toilet, the soap dispenser in the bathroom was empty, and the refrigerator containing drinks was not cold. The floors were dirty and there was open drinks from the previous guests in the refrigerator.
Overall, these ongoing issues indicate a lack of proper preparation, maintenance, and transparency in the information provided at the time of booking. Given our previous positive experience, this situation was especially disappointing.
Tropical Island does not take complaints seriously and they do not answer contact attempts.
Kakerlakk in the room, left one day earlier
Has to split this in two.
Stay over and being at the place.
1. staying over:
So old room. Kakerlakk in the room. It was not cleaned under the bed. It was candy frome some other still under the bed.
So bad and we left one day earlier because of the room.
2. Tha places. I love the water slides, the rainforest and it’s a lot for kids to do.
But the room experience was so bad so other dosent matter.
Largely Unsatisfactory
This correspondence details several operational and service deficiencies encountered before and during our recent stay. While the pool facilities were enjoyable, the overall experience, stemming from the booking process through to the on-site amenities, was largely unsatisfactory.
Key Areas of Concern
1. Booking and Pet Policy Inconsistencies
The initial booking experience was met with significant operational friction. The online reservation system does not provide an option to include a pet, necessitating a mandatory follow-up with the office. Upon contact, we were informed of pet-friendly unit unavailability and were subsequently offered a downgrade in accommodation type. This downgrade was quoted at a higher financial cost than the original booking, representing a clear disparity in value and policy execution.
2. All-Inclusive Dining Program
As someone with a background in the hospitality sector, I appreciate the need for cost management in an all-inclusive model. However, the current food offering provides a suboptimal level of variety. The daily menu was highly repetitive, featuring minimal variations on the same core dishes. This lack of culinary diversity was notably disappointing and does not align with expected standards for an all-inclusive package.
3. Access Control and Staff Training
The provided all-inclusive wristbands proved inadequate, failing structurally and becoming unreadable within 24 hours. This led to an incident where one member of our party, an eight-year-old child, was temporarily denied access to the dining area due to an unreadable band, despite being accompanied by the entire, verified family. This scenario highlights a lack of discretion and common sense in policy enforcement. Further, the employee operating the counter displayed a notably unprofessional and rude demeanor. We recommend implementing additional staff training focused on customer service and flexible problem-solving in high-volume situations.
4. Parking Policy and Cost Structure
The current parking arrangement is highly inconvenient and cost-prohibitive. The charge of €7 per day combined with a restrictive no re-entry policy (requiring a full second payment if the vehicle leaves the lot) is not conducive to an enjoyable, flexible holiday experience. Considering the premium paid for the all-inclusive package, the inclusion of basic, flexible parking access should be considered an essential component of the offer.
5. Accommodation Review
The cabin/house booked for four people was dimensionally restrictive. A significant deficiency was the seating arrangement: the unit, designed for four occupants, included a sofa accommodating only three. While adequate for sleeping purposes, the overall design and limited capacity of the unit created a substandard living environment.
Conclusion and Recommendation
We enjoyed the pool amenities, but regrettably, the series of negative experiences detailed above—from the flawed booking process to the issues with dining access and cost policies—will prevent us from considering a return visit. Furthermore, we cannot recommend the all-inclusive package in its current form to others. We advise a comprehensive review of the booking system, staff procedures, and the parking/dining policies to ensure a positive and consistent guest experience.
We visited with a one-day ticket
We visited with a one-day ticket.
Visited as family with 3 kids - ages 16,10 &3 - from Denmark.
This is 2nd time we have visited.
I see a lot of complaints but seems to be those who have overnight stays at the TI resort.
We stayed in Berlin and then drove down.
We booked our tickets on booking.com which gave us extra discount. Parked onsite, plenty of parking available. Arrival and getting our daily wristband was easy. Staff can speak English.
Large changing room area with lots of lockers inside, just need to find one😂
Toilets spread around the whole resort and easily accessible.
Despite the amount of people visiting, toilets and shower areas were kept clean continuously. Baby changing areas were also ok, although I felt there could be a few more.
In the food court there is a microwave to heat up any food/milk for kids.
There are slides /play areas for all kids, toddlers and teens.
The toddler area is perfect and you can watch from side as your child safely plays. Having said that a lot of parents were also playing in the waterfall😂
The large pool and lagoons are a mix of families adults and kids. Our kids mainly played in lagoon due to the jacuzzi jets. The lagoon also had the shallow depth and water felt warmer so better for the kids.
Cleansiness - there is sand and water all over but that is to be expected. I would not say the water areas are dirty etc. yes there is chlorine in the water but what do you expect at a water park?! We found the resort to be clean. We did not see garbage anywhere.
Some areas are being renovated, and those areas that are damaged (we saw one) was safely cordoned off so you could not access it.
The lifeguards are very watchful so you feel at ease.
Food wise - you cannot bring your own food in (no one checks though so wish I had brought some snack for the kids).
There are several restaurants but we found the food court to be the best.
Overall - a great water park for the whole family. We will definitely be coming again.
Highly recommended.
