Excellent laptop, great price.

I had a great experience with purchasing through the Metabox website. It was easy and seamless, and I was able to track the order the whole way until it arrived, and all at a good price.

I’ve been using the Edge laptop as a daily driver for about 3 years now and it hasn’t missed a beat. I would highly recommend!

Disappointing battery life, ongoing Wi-Fi/Bluetooth issues, and poor support

I bought a Metabox laptop after being told I could expect around 9 hours of battery life. In real use, it initially lasted around 1.5 to 2 hours. After spending many hours changing settings with a technician, I was able to get it closer to 3–4 hours at times, but only by turning down performance, using battery saver, disabling the GPU, and reducing many of the features I bought the laptop for in the first place.

The bigger ongoing issue has been the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card. It consistently drops out during the day, including during meetings, which makes the laptop unreliable for work. This has been raised but still has not been properly resolved.

The most disappointing part has been the support experience. Rather than taking ownership and helping properly diagnose or fix the issue, it has felt like the problems were pushed aside or explained away.

I genuinely want Australian businesses to succeed and compete globally, but this experience has been very disappointing. For a work laptop, reliability and customer support matter, and unfortunately this has fallen well short of expectations.

This is it!

A dream machine for less than half the price. Loaded Linux (Ubuntu) to it and everything worked right out of the box. The power is insane. The battery drains fast, but if it came as a surprise to you - you should do your research better.

I bought a metabox laptop 2 years ago and its dead

I bought a metabox laptop 2 years ago solely based on a earlier model my mate has had for 5 years. His was big and chunky and well made. Mine Was sent back within 8 months with a dead ssd. Took 8 weeks to get a replacement. Laptop died with a failed motherboard 18 months after that with no backup support from the company. Basically just tuff luck.
I took it to a computer tech who has been in the industry 37 years and he said its generic chinese crap inside of poor quality like lower end MSI and ASUS gaming laptops. He said all this stuff is manufactured to the lowest specs and hasn't got a hope of lasting beyond 3 years if your lucky.
I have since moved on and bought a proper quality built gaming desktop. Gaming laptops will never last due to heat issues.
I would not recommend metabox to anyone as they are just cheap chinese rubbish. Save your money and buy a desktop.

Same issues as my below review

Same issues as my below review, still ongoing:

Worst customer service going - I ordered my laptop in October 2023, and now in July 2024 I have my second (they replaced the first due to issues) and it is STILL not fixed. What's worse is that they're now ignoring my emails, and trying to brush the battery problems this laptop has aside. The second laptop has the same batter issues as the first, and a full charge is unachievable.

I managed (eventually) to get one online session with Arden to diagnose the issues remotely, and we left this session only to find that zero problems were fixed. This was in April 2024. Problem has persisted since (and prior) and they are still doing absolutely nothing at all to fix the issue.

Worst customer service I have ever encountered. Do not buy from these unprofessional muppets. Save your money or better yet spend more on a proven company.

6 months in - flawless...

Have waited over 6 months before writing a review to be sure: extremely happy with my high powered metabox. Blows everything I've had before out of the water in terms of speed, features, no bloatware, design, reliability. Flawless.

Don't believe the hype

I was first suckered into Metabox based on their glowing reviews on other websites; ratings that took less than a year to sink down from a near-perfect score to an average one.

I have had to send off my laptop twice, each time taking a month to return; in no cases was any serious work done to solve the lingering problems i've been facing, and it's easy to get the feeling that they simply forgot about my laptop and were waiting for me to ask for it back.

This company is clearly not serious about what they do, beyond making money. Their products are cheaply made - not by them, of course - and don't really offer anything special compared to other small-time assemblers.

Once again: Before you go out and buy a metabox, read some of the negative reviews. You will see common themes - from ineffective tech support, to these expensive laptops needing repeated repairs in their first two years. You will hear about low-quality Clevo cases that quickly fall apart, and hardware that dies prematurely.

And what are the positive things people say?

That the laptops are powerful. This is all well and good, but it's easy to have good parts when you simply buy them from a manufacturer (plus your case, and everything else). That the support workers are polite (if ineffective). And that seems to be the extend of the glowing praise.

I'm sorry, people. That's simply not enough for a five-star review. And so, here's my final line; be wary of Metabox, or any little upstart with an untested reputation. After all, it's only a matter of time...

I've had to send my laptop back to…

I've had to send my laptop back to Perth twice for a keyboard issue, and each time it was gone for only maybe 3 days including shipping. When it failed in the same way for the third time even tho the keyboard is a third-party part they found a permanent solution. Customer service is very good, and the best you'll find from any computer company.

Affordable high performance Metabox Alpha series

So i have recently purchased Metabox Alpha-X NH58DB and it is a very high performance laptop if you update the ram to 64gb (costed $448) or even 32gb. Now i am a bit advance user as i run multiple virtual machines within a single OS, so when i say its worth the money then it sure does.
If you are using it for day to day tasks then battery will last you good time but for extensive tasks which only pros do then battery wont be the issue. As for other people winning about 2 years old model, well even 2 years is a good life span before running into motherboard issues due to your power fluctuations, physical damage to the product or your depreciation of charger which is easily fixable by replacing a motherboard at an affordable price these days.

Good price but at a huge cost

I have a metabox gaming laptop worth around 2k. The GPU and CPU are good for the price HOWEVER this is as far as it goes. The customer service is horrible! The only service centre is in Perth so it's a 2-3 week turn around for repairs.
My laptop has been sent back 5 times in two years so they are very unreliable.
The laptop runs very hot, too hot to put on your lap. The fans are also very loud.

Love the laptop

Love the laptop! I happen to come across the brand. Laptops are for the true fanatics (like) me - it comes packed with the best brands: intel, Creative, nVidia etc. I have the Metabox Prime-S P960RF and it is amazingly powerful, lightweight design, sturdy, crisp high res screen, amazing keyboard (wish I got the individual lit keyboard though) and the MOST AMAZING track pad that I have ever encountered. I hate laptop track pads. But this, one, with glass surface is just like working on a smartphone, and its amazing.
AMAZING service! I got a dock and the external screens didn't want to work through the dock. Metabox not only responded to my enquiry promptly, they went to the effort of arranging a remote session to investigate the problem.
Really pleased, and definitely recommending them to all my friends.

Would not buy again

Bought a $2,500 Metabox prime with gtx 1060 2.5 years ago. The laptop started having problems about 2 years into owning it. First the keyboard started having problems like sticky keys. Then about 2 months later I randomly got my first blue screen issue. Not long after that when I would close the lid and it would go to sleep. When I opened it up again it would wake up but screen was still black. Then I couldn't run any games anymore with out massive lag spikes.

Turns out the hard drive had died plus the real kicker the graphics card had gone too also I'm pretty sure something is still wrong with it because it loves to uninstall things.

I also bought my wife one not long after mine but I have since sold that because that had issues as well.

I would never buy a meta box again nor recommend one. My advise unless you need a laptop just build a PC you can get better parts plus if something does break you can replace it easily. But if you really need a laptop go a more well know brand.

Contrary to other reviews on here

Contrary to other reviews on here, I've recently bought a laptop from Meatbox (and not a high end one) and I've found their support and service to be EXCELLENT compared to the likes of Dell and HP. Just being able to speak to someone who understands English is a HUGE benefit, and the hardware is thoroughly tested and solid.

disapointing

The laptops are standard clevo designs and as such they aren't bad machines, the hardware is not bad for the price. But pray to god nothing goes wrong because you will be out of a laptop for a long time and stuck dealing with people who couldn't possibly care less. The staff are polite enough, but honestly that alone is not enough. I could never afford to deal with them again. In addition to this, their consideration for the Australian consumer law is questionable. I will likely consider placing a complaint in regards to that too (honesty though that is the least of my concerns).

Almost two months later I have no working laptop and I have nothing to show for it, they have not taken any steps to make this any kind of okay ether, in fact quiet the opposite. They don't consider your position as a costumer or try to be particularly helpful/understanding. Basically my impression is that they couldn't care less about their costumers. More then happy to take your money though.

I have dealt with numerous IT companies in the context of after sales support and this is for sure one of my worst experiences overall. Whilst other companies would put at least a little bit of effort to make sure you leave more or less happy, metabox just doesn't give a damn.

I hate writing negative reviews for any reason, and I have tried liking this company and being patient, but I cant emphasize enough on how much my particular interaction sucked. Go buy from a reputable retailer or a large oem or anywhere else where they would actually appreciate your business and try to work with you, save your self the headache.
