I am extremely disappointed with the way Medicare has handled my request to cancel my plan.
Our family circumstances have changed significantly. We have recently had our second baby, my husband has now also lost his job, and financially we simply cannot justify continuing to pay for a service that I do not use. We already have other medical cover, and I have not used Medicare at all this entire year. Right now, our financial priority has to be our children and their health and wellbeing.
Despite explaining all of this repeatedly, Medicare continues to tell me that I am tied into the agreement until at least March and must continue paying.
What makes this even more frustrating is the way the supposed contract has been handled. I did not physically sign a contract, Medicare has not been able to provide me with a signed contract, and the contractual information provided to me was in Portuguese, not English, despite the fact that I do not understand Portuguese well enough to properly understand contractual terms.
Their customer service throughout this process has also been completely unacceptable. I have specifically told Medicare in writing that I need to communicate in English. Despite this, they have repeatedly called me in Portuguese. Each time I explain that I cannot understand them, I am told that somebody who speaks English will call me back — only for the exact same thing to happen again.
I feel like I have had to continuously chase this company simply to get basic assistance, while they continue expecting me to pay for a service I do not use and can no longer reasonably afford.
I am not asking for anything unreasonable. I am asking Medicare to take our changed financial circumstances into account, cancel this unused service immediately, stop any further charges, and confirm the cancellation to me in writing.
This entire experience has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I will update this review if Medicare resolves the matter properly.
I have medical insurance in several countries around the world and i thought i would have medical insurance in Portugal, very bad decision to go with this company, i cancelled the policy 6 months ago but they are still deducting money from my account, it's OK, they will fail because they are a bad company, just going after money with nothing to offer, i had several tests done just to get a 2nd opinion, OMG, RUN FORREST RUN, i didn't get any special treatments or discounts, the consultations were 20 euro cheaper than full price, no reason to be with them, you will sign a 2 year contract and pay 20 euro per month whether you use it or not, it's not worth the cost, no special doctors or treatments or discounts, shop around and go elsewhere.

Useless. First time I ask for a doctor visit at home (included for free, unlimited, in our monthly plan) and he never came. I never received the message the woman told me about on the phone, nobody showed up. I was lucky I could go to the hospital instead for my kid and didn't rely on them.

I just needed a basic prescription and found this company with minimal premiums obviously targeting English speakers.
So call 1 came in Portuguese. No surprises there. I speak basic Portuguese and asked if they speak English because my Portuguese is not good enough. The girl said that an English speaking agent will call me later. Reasonable response.
Call 2 late afternoon — another elderly lady is calling. I explained the same thing very politely in basic Portuguese. She then proceeds to lecture me that I must speak Portuguese since I am in Portugal.
At that point, I started telling her my mind in vernacular English and she hanged up.
I understand that those poor folks cannot do anything else in life and work for minimal wage. So I am not upset. Just enjoying the circus show. Obviously, the company is unable to service foreigners.

As a foreign resident in Portugal, Medicare offers little to no practical value. I attempted to cancel my membership after the first year; however, I was a few days past the deadline, as the contract requires three months’ notice. The contract itself is issued in Portuguese and is merely read out over the phone in English.
I raised the point that, under EU legislation, it is considered good business practice to notify consumers prior to the renewal of a subscription. I subsequently managed to speak with a manager who confirmed by email that my membership would only be renewed for a period of six months. However, once this period had elapsed, and after I contacted Medicare regarding an invoice, I was informed that this had been a mistake, and they reverted to the terms of the original contract. Thereafter, any further attempts to engage with them resulted only in the contract being resent.
Although English-speaking service is advertised, it is effectively non-existent in practice. Furthermore, the network of affiliated clinics and services is limited. I would therefore recommend opting for comprehensive health insurance or relying on the public healthcare system.

I became a member 11 months ago and want to cancel my yearly renewal as this Medicare really has very little benefits for us and although it seems that they assist English it really isn't like that once you start using the options.
I've called their customer service to cancel my membership and the lady keeps on saying that they have received my request to cancel but her manager will call me to acknowledge? I called 3 times and it's been a week now with no feedback. They obviously want to divert my cancellation request so that I don't give enough notice. Very unprofessional.

I had a very disappointing experience with Medicare Portugal.
Before signing up, their website listed multiple healthcare providers as part of their network. However, after joining, I contacted several of these providers (including physiotherapy clinics in Braga), and all of them confirmed they have no agreement with Medicare. This was extremely misleading.
Customer support was equally frustrating. Despite repeatedly requesting assistance in English, I only received callbacks from Portuguese-speaking staff. This made it very difficult to resolve even basic issues.
More concerning, when my husband called on my behalf, I was asked to say “yes” in Portuguese to terms I did not understand. This raised serious concerns about informed consent.
I submitted a formal complaint and request for cancellation on 26 September 2025 and followed up multiple times, including sending a registered letter. To date, I have received no written response whatsoever.
Overall, this has been a very poor experience with lack of transparency, inadequate customer support, and complete absence of communication. I would strongly advise others to be cautious.

I honestly don't have words for this clinic. I met one of the most chillingly unproffesional doctors here. He asked me if I was ill or if I was distracted by my "boyfriend" when l came to seek help during my studies for my C-PTSD with my husband who is born here in The Gambia. He also wanted me to write my own note about what I was going through and lastly prescribed me medicine which offcourse was some lazy anti depressant prescription just to get me out of there without any knowledge about what I was going through. I got a panic attack in there and told them that I needed to be excused because I didn't feel safe in there. While I was gone the doctor told my husband: You need to send her back to Sweden the illness that she has is going to disturb you too much. Very unprofessional and illegal. He was also one hour late to our appointment. BIG warning. However, I give this clinic two stars because of one other doctor who was a gynecologist that was actually very good at his job and made me feel heard, safe and respected.
I would write the doctors name here for clarification so anyone could avoid going there to be ridiculed or take any of his prescriptions because not to be harsh but that doctor deserves to have his license taken away.

I understand that the medicare info line is going to be congested. Why can't they offer call back or give updates on whether it is a one hour or four hour wait?

I want to share my experience with Medicare to warn others. On August 30, 2025, I signed up for a plan remotely, and on the same day I sent a request to their email asking to cancel (i.e. to withdraw). Over the next weeks, I sent several follow-up emails and used their website forms, but I got no reply. On September 4, I noticed an attempted direct debit from my bank, which I disputed. As of September 29, I still have not received confirmation that my cancellation was accepted. Meanwhile, I keep getting SMS messages requesting payment and marketing emails, even though I did not consent to them. This process has been frustrating and confusing, and I feel dissatisfied with how Medicare handled my case

All promises by the salesman, I had a mecical emergency, called the number, most of the time the English option did not work, although this was promised in the sales pitch. Long story short, 29 minutes, 11 calls, numerous transfers and cut-offs later I am still nowhere. A David called me back, asked for my wife's date of birth, said that this did not correlate with what he had on file and told me to start the cycle again. Sure.......
I will gladly take this further with them if they have the inclination, they apparently have the telephone call recordings... let's see...
Follow up : Indeed the wheels do turn, albeit at their own pace. I did receive a return call, a doctor was despatched and arrived that evening and took care of the issue. Thank you
