Regarding your emails, we would like to clarify that our company was closed for the traditional summer holiday period in Italy during the past week. During this annual closure, our customer service operates on a very limited basis, which may result in longer response times than usual. Dear Pamella,

We are sorry to learn that the customs charges affected your experience with your purchase.

The $40 paid at checkout covered the international shipment of your order from Italy to the United States. The additional amount requested by DHL was not a further shipping charge applied by Il Marchesato, but import duties and customs fees assessed by the U.S. authorities and collected by the courier on their behalf. These charges are neither determined nor retained by our company.

As stated in the shipping information on our website, orders delivered outside the European Union may be subject to import duties, taxes, or local customs charges upon arrival, in accordance with the regulations of the destination country.

We understand that such costs may be unwelcome; however, they are entirely separate from both the price of the item and the shipping service purchased from us.

We are sorry that the umbrella did not meet your expectations. However, we feel it is important to clarify that the description contained in your comment does not reflect the actual characteristics of the product you purchased.

The umbrella was handcrafted, assembled and hand-finished in Italy, using carefully selected materials and workmanship carried out to the highest quality standards. It is therefore neither a children’s toy nor a product made in China.

Every customer is, of course, entitled to express a personal opinion about a purchase. The origin, materials and craftsmanship of a product, however, are objective and verifiable facts, and we believe they should be represented accurately.

Should the umbrella not be to your liking, and provided that it has not been personalised and meets the conditions set out in our return policy, you may contact our customer service team at info@marchetato.com to request return authorisation.
