Positive aspects: the landscape and the conditions in the refuges.
Negative aspects:
1. the description of the route on the website has nothing to do with reality: the route is presented as idyllic, with forests, alpine pastures, and in reality it is difficult: large areas with large, sharp, unstable stones (the consequence being an accident of a tourist on the route, which required the intervention of the gendarmerie helicopter), coastal areas with slippery gravel, areas with snow.
2. the distance specified for each day of walking is much underestimated (we were prepared for 13, 16 and 13 km and in reality it was 22, 26 and 23 km)!!! Therefore, the time was much longer, approx. 9-10 hours of walking/day.
3. there are no controlled sources of drinking water on the route and no refuges from which to supply yourself with water.
1. Please refer to the original e-mail chain. Bookatrekking misrepresented the availability of our last Rifugio, causing us to lose one day of the trek, and requiring us to do our own research to find a replacement which was much longer.
2. The offline map misrepresented the route on several occasions causing us to make very long wrong turns.
This was the best thing I’ve ever done and I’m so happy I booked through book a trekking. I don’t know how I’d be able to coordinate it all myself so the service book a trekking provide is so well worth it. Even just the navigation tools alone was amazing.
Alta via 1 is to die for. It was the most beautiful location I don’t know how anything can compare. Must be physically and mentally ready for the trip but is so worth it.
I would flag is that the descriptions make it seem much easier than it really is. This is was the most physically and mentally challenging this I’ve ever done.
And I’d also suggest more specifics on weight for packing would have been helpful and realistic elevation map as some were a sad surprise. But that’s just me being picky.
All services associated were absolutely amazing. Can’t wait to book my next.
The next time, I would rather plan the trekking myself than use bookatrekking. The route included broken down bridges (from years ago) and completely diverted from the huts recommended trails and signs. Perhaps bookatrekking can give some inspiration, but I would urge you to put in a bit more effort and time yourself, which will save you a lot during the hike.
Hi there! Thank you for making our group experience seamless! We had a blast and the food at the refugios was great. Everything went off without a hitch which is rare in these kind of hikes. Hats off to you!
Everything about the app was great but there were some days where the time shared on the duration of the hike was way off and should be re evaluated. Also there were dietary requirements which were shared on the portal and as suggested we reached out to the huts however they said to get the agency to contact so being clear on this will be good. Also some huts just did not accommodate on dietary restrictions. If that's the case then a refund for a portion from bookatrekking should be provided
The navigation app is very helpful.
It can be even better if it can warn upon loosing your trail.
We had an amazing trekk on the northern part of the Meraner höhenweg. The trekk was tough but the views were beautiful. The app was working nicely and the team answered all questions I had before our trip.
My son and I had a fantastic experience with Bookatrekking. All our lodging was booked exactly as we wanted and, most of all, the navigation feature on their app was outstanding! I highly recommend Bookatrekking!!
Super organized. Everything was great. The app was fantastic and the hiking was a 10 out of 10
Absolutely the most incredible Trek with easy navigation and fabulous hotels and accommodations! The trip totally exceed my expectations and I loved every minute of it! Can’t wait to join another one!
Booking was super easy and the app was full of all the information we needed for our trip. The navigation worked perfectly which was great for peace of mind on the trails. As someone who was very time poor for planning, this made the trip possible for me.
Great trek in the Bernese Alps. Challenging in parts and the views well worth the effort and a warm welcome at the Huts. Booking was easy and the navigation app worked well.

Awesome trek, I liked the route and the huts, good briefing at the start.
There was confusion over where to take the equipment at the end, I was told I could pick up from Lesce but then find out that was not possible so had to go to Bled instead.
I didn't immediately receive a receipt for my deposit.
I didnt like the Kamoot App.
The map was good.

The views and experience were memorable. The vibe at the lodges was really cool and it was great to experience. We did the hike as a family of four and it was a great experience to share as a family. The trails were easy to navigate and there were signs the entire way. We did not follow the suggested route on the last day and instead picked a completely different route.
Regarding using the bookatrekking first hike was honestly walking down a road so really not ideal. The navigation app did not work the entire hike. The hike descriptions were poor and really did not describe the actual hike what so ever. The second night even though requesting multiple times and being willing to pay extra and continually checking in the company did not book us a private room and instead a dorm. The reason I paid for the tour was to avoid dorms and ease of booking to then end up in a dorm not sure why I paid instead I should have just booked myself.
Ultimate the experience was amazing but next time I’ll just book everything myself it was a waste of money to use agency.

This was a very mixed experience. Some things very good some quite bad.
Booking: We were a husband and wife traveling with a friend. We expected to have two rooms booked, on half our nights the three of us were booked into one room.
Support: Given the “misunderstanding” over room booking, which we only discovered the day before our trek started, we tried to contact Bookatrekking to fix the problem. For two days all we could get was a recorded message in Dutch. A language we don’t speak. We eventually tried their emergency number and got a real person. They told us we should have specified two rooms, but they would try to rectify the problem, a day later told us there were no extra rooms available. This wasn’t true! On two nights we simply contacted the accommodation and independently arranged for a second room, on another we found a room in a guest house 300yds away.
Quality of Accommodation: Most of our accommodation was excellent, but on two nights it fell below minimum quality levels. On one night our rooms were over a campsite laundry. The noise from machinery and campers socializing late into the night meant we got little sleep. On another night there was a large hostel style room housing many individuals directly above us. No sleep again. This particular establishment had pay as you use showers and toilets located on a different floors from the rooms. On each of these nights superior accommodation was available close by.
Information: (a) The information supplied on the app concerning food availability along the trail was very inaccurate. On many stages of the hike we were informed that food would not be available, when there were actually gasthauses and stores along the way. We scrambled to obtain pack lunches unnecessarily, (b) There were places where the trail was unpassable either because it had been washed out, or due to other obstructions such as logging operations. Some of these had been there a while. A warning about this would have been helpful, (c) the trail was well signposted, but the route on the app and via the signposts differed quite frequently. A warning about this would have saved us a few navigational mistakes.
Overall: Much of this hike was wonderful. But we felt that Bookatrekking did a poor job of arranging accommodation, of supplying support when we requested it, and supplying accurate information about the trail.

All of the communication was handled promptly and effectively. We felt exceptionally well-prepared four our journey and had zero issues with logistics (navigation on trail and refugio accommodations). The BAT app was a key guide for us during our journey.

The whole experience went without a flaw. The app was straight forward and easy to use. The map was ideal. There was a great welcome at the huts and the food was good. All in all a very enjoyable experience. I will definitely use again.

For a 73-year old and first-timer of trekking in the Dolomites, AV1 was quite challenging and physically stressful sometimes. Bookatrekking’s packing list and navigation tool are both very helpful and useful, thereby mitigating the level of mental stress. I got lost twice: once in the Lagazuoi Tunnel, the other time on the way up to Forcella di Zita Sud. The navigation tool was of little use when I tried to find my way back. That it was possible to get lost in the Tunnel should be highlighted in the itinerary description. Also, some suggestions on how best to get back the the marked route once lost would be great.
