ChargePoint Horrendous to Deal With

ChargePoint have been horrendous to deal with. They installed a home charger for my company at my home. The charger stopped working 3 months ago. I have made over ten phone calls to get the charger fixed. They just say we will get 'We power your car' to contact you but nobody ever returns my calls. Terrible service

The installation process was great

The installation process was great. Carl done an amazing job and was lovely to have around. However, the booking process was an absolute nightmare!!! The company kept on cancelling our appointments the days before and trying to call to speak to someone was pointless and pretty much impossible. We kept getting ignored or passed around. We lost days off work to be available for appointments and couldn’t use our car for weeks due to the delays. We felt stuck as they had already claimed our grant funds and we had to pay the rest upfront. Not acceptable!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review — we genuinely appreciate all feedback, both positive and constructive.

We're delighted to hear that Carl made such a great impression during the installation itself. We'll be sure to pass your kind words on to him!

However, we are truly sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced during the booking process. Multiple cancellations, unanswered calls, and being passed from person to person is simply not the standard of service we expect to deliver, and we completely understand how frustrating — and costly — that must have been, particularly losing days off work and being without your vehicle for an extended period. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.

We do want to clarify one point regarding the grant, as we wouldn't want there to be any misunderstanding. We do not hold or claim your grant funds at this stage. To help make the installation as accessible as possible, we cover the £500 upfront on your behalf. We then apply to recover those costs as a grant ourselves following completion of the installation, and this process can take many months before the funds are recovered.

That said, we take your wider concerns very seriously and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly to better understand what went wrong with your booking experience and how we can make improvements going forward.

Dreadful

Dreadful, would certainly not reccomend, first appointment cancelled and rescheduled for a week later, Darren came to install our charger and was great, did a nice tidy job and was a really nice guy, chasing up an installation certificate and the cashback that I was due was a nightmare, recieved cashback after several emails and phone calls and have finally recieved the eic certificate nearly 10 weeks after installation ! I have lost count of the amount of phone calls ive made and emails ive sent ! Ian instilled me with confidence from the first phone call, unfortunately service after this was very, very frustrating , avoid ! Would never use them again that's for sure.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review, and please accept our sincere apologies for the delays and frustration you experienced after your installation.

We're really glad that Darren delivered a great installation and that your initial experience with us gave you confidence — but we completely understand how disheartening it is when the follow-up doesn't match that standard. Waiting nearly ten weeks for your EIC certificate and having to chase repeatedly for your cashback is simply not good enough, and we own that.

To give some context: we have been working through a significant increase in demand driven by a new government grant scheme. The volume of applications processed through that scheme created a backlog in our certification and cashback workflows that affected a number of customers during this period — yourself included. We have since made changes to our staffing and administrative processes to prevent this happening again.

That said, we never want anyone to feel they have to fight for something they're entitled to. We're sorry we let you down at that stage of the process.

We hope that now everything has been resolved you're enjoying your charger, and we genuinely hope you'll give us the opportunity to show you the improvement we've made should you need us in the future.

Avoid, can't even refund £25!

I applied for credit and had to pay the £24.90 deposit to do this. unfortunately I wasn't accepted so requested the deposit back nearly a month ago. assured in an email it would arrive in my bank by the 13th... still nothing and no reply from 2 emails to customer services. very disappointed and definitely will not be purchasing a charger from this company in the future as I'd planned, if they can't refund £24.90 within a month i don't have much confidence in paying them alot more than that! this complaint won't be dropped and will be escalated.

We’re sorry to hear about your disappointment and understand your frustration regarding the delay.

Having checked this matter, it appears that the refund payment has already been processed from our side. If the funds have still not appeared in your account, we kindly ask that you contact our office directly so we can investigate this further with you, or alternatively speak with your card provider/bank as there can occasionally be delays depending on processing times.

We take customer concerns seriously and would welcome the opportunity to resolve this for you as quickly as possible.

STAY AWAY!!!!

STAY AWAY!!!!
I ordered the charger in Jan, paid deposit and a few instaltement since. Nobody contacted me, initially i had to call and ask whats next as i heard nothing. Then, i was told i didnt complete one section in the home survey, and once i did that, someone would call me. Nobody did. I followed up with them for nearly 3 months, was only getting responses - we are trying to find an installer. Never any proactive communication from their side. I eventually requested to cancel my order and to get a refund. Again contacted them 3 times since then (over a month) and was told yeas yes, sorry missed it, will process now. I also contacte dthe company which im paying teh instaltments to, they said they had no such cancellation as of yet, and just taken further payment.
I would stay away from them now, they cant guarentee timely installation, do not contact their clients, and barely reply. I am appaled with their service.

Thanks for your feedback, and we’re very sorry for the experience you had.

As we explained during our communications, your area was being covered by a Scotland-based installer. Unfortunately, we found this contractor to be unreliable, and we made the decision to stop working with them while we sourced a more suitable and dependable alternative. This has been a wider challenge for us in certain parts of Scotland, which did lead to delays beyond our usual standards.

We would also like to clarify that we did maintain regular contact, with multiple phone conversations and updates provided throughout the process. However, we do accept that despite this, we did not meet your expectations on this occasion.

We did offer you the option to wait while we arranged a new installer, but we completely understand that the delay became too much and you chose to cancel. Your cancellation has been processed, and we fully respect your decision.

We sincerely regret that we weren’t able to fulfil our obligations this time, and we’re grateful for your patience and understanding throughout.

Cancelled installation and failed to refund

Cancelled installation twice at short notice, no refund without a fight.
Booked an EV charger installation with ChargePointEV. The install was postponed twice at late notice due to issues finding a subcontractor, significantly disrupting my schedule. I cancelled and requested a full refund. They were not forthcoming with updates and I had had to chase for news on my installation throughout.
Despite providing bank details and chasing repeatedly over several weeks with no response, the refund was not processed within the timeline they eventually committed to. It only arrived after I raised a dispute with my credit card company and gave formal notice of a Trading Standards complaint.
The customer service throughout was poor — responses were slow, promises weren’t kept, and meaningful action only came when formal pressure was applied. I would not recommend this company.

Hi Mr Pinnegar — Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback and I’m very sorry for the frustration and hassle you experienced. What you describe falls far short of the service we aim to deliver. We apologise for the late cancellations, the poor communication and the delay with your refund.

We have investigated this matter and are taking steps to prevent a repeat (improving subcontractor scheduling, strengthening customer communications and accelerating refund handling).

Thank you for the feedback — we’re committed to making this right.

Warning: Unprofessional conduct and questionable admin fees

I am writing this review to warn other consumers about the experience I’ve had with Chargepoint EV. After attempting to cancel my agreement within my legal rights, I have been met with obstructive behaviour and unprofessional communication.

Despite cancelling within the 14 day cooling off period, the company is attempting to withhold a £40 "administrative fee" and a non-refundable 3% card processing fee. Under UK consumer law, deductions should reflect actual costs, and card surcharges are heavily restricted. (Citizens Advice)

When I reached out to ensure my rights were being upheld, I received a patronising response. The company remarkably took issue with the "AI grammar and clarity checked" emails as a reason to delay their "due process." It felt like a deliberate attempt to stall and intimidate rather than resolve a simple refund.

Despite being aware of the cancellation, they have admitted to delaying the notification to my finance provider (Humm) while they perform "internal checks." This risk results in further unauthorised payments being taken from my account.

Avoid like a plague!

Made payment on the 16th of March. But had to cancel because of the burdensome form to fill after deposit has been made.

They acknowledged my cancellation and promised to refund. Well.. its been over 4 weeks now.. crickets even though I have chased.

So deal with them at your own risk.

More concern with Chargepoint EV

Further to the last response where there was no response from Chargepoint Ev, I thought I needed to add more.

I have sent numerous emails and had no further responses, rang 10 times in one day and 9 the next just to get someone to answer the phone. I have had the phone put down and as I had not received my money back in weeks, promised a date that went by and backheeling every concern faulting the other dept., I requested compensation. I was told that even though they had wasted 3 of my holidays with cancellations, must be 50 calls and frustration, promises not kept and waiting for MY money to come back to me which was still short of what I paid and still have not received a response or the difference, I am told no compensation as we did not have the charger installed. Of course I did not because you could not give me a charger in 3 attempts to have it installed to the point I went directly to the manufacturer and had it installed by them for less money and in one go, in less time. I was told that they had wavered the cancellation charges although I was told by them when I cancelled and asked that there were none as it was their fault they could not supply me a charger. Yes you can see it, they will not take responsibility. Even when you pay the money to them, they do not order and send out like EVEC did for it to be with me and wait for installer, they wait 1 week before installation if that, and fingers crossed the company has the stock. BUT they don't but it directly, they buy it from a 3rd party who buys it from the manufacturer, so they are making more profit that you are paying for the charger too. Afraid there is no minus number here, I cannot recommend avoiding this company any more than i can as they do not deserve to have business based on the entire companies unprofessional staff, lack of enough staff to cope for incoming calls and the lack of communication to the depts when refunds are due. The finance company only work so many days and some of those are working from home, no contact. Denial, blame culture and backheeling is all you will get from here. There response will be something about trying their best and finding some blame on me to get away from their inconsistencies with areal work ethic and process, and believe me their processes are not right to support the customer and even allow a smooth transition of a charger installation. If they cannot even stop staff from leaving and obtaining chargers when needed, don't expect an installation any time soon or that anyone or any charger will be available on the day you have just took off. Start saving your holidays up if you don't want to trust me, you will need them.

MY RESPONSE... I knew you would say you made every effort but that was not the case as I have proved with all of teh concerns raised. My uploads are after the events have happened, knowing that I am still awaiting approx £5 difference of money owed which your finance dept for some reason cannot add up properly. haven't responded to chases for the difference - principle of it, and still have not paid teh money back. That is not professional. FACT Not bothered about responses, it is factual information based on events that YOU certainly don't control. I made all chases and your staff are inconsiderate and one hung up the phone after numerous chases for answers and concerns. You do not care hence everyone needs to know how bad your company s. I have explained teh facts and I cannot respond to this without adding teh extras. I had no characters left to add a further response hence the 2nd bad feedback. It is not deliberate, it is teh functionality of tripadvisor and everything stated is genuine at my time when I have spare. No conspiracy, just facts. The facts cannot be denied. I would love to discuss this but no one answers teh phone and I haven't got time to ring on 10 different occasions hoping for a pick up.

MULTIPLE NEGATIVE REVIEWS

We have made every reasonable effort to address this matter through extensive direct communication. Unfortunately, the claims presented in this review do not accurately reflect the facts or the documented correspondence between both parties.

We would also note a concerning pattern of behaviour, whereby multiple negative reviews have been submitted in relation to this matter. There appears to be a consistent use of this platform solely for posting negative feedback, often at similar times in the evening, which raises further questions regarding the credibility and intent behind these submissions.

While we always aim to resolve concerns in a fair and transparent manner, we do not believe that continuing to engage publicly on this matter would be constructive.

As such, we consider this issue closed and will not be responding further

Look out for hidden charges

Agreed a date in the Easter break. Once paid deposit was advised that date is not available. Offered dates after 20th April. Advised that this does not work. Asked for canx and refund. Was advised there is a £40 fee +3%. Gone with another company thanks matched price and can do the date. Avoid these. Currently have an ongoing complaint as they won’t deal with over the phone.
Two weeks have passed since this review and the promise to waver additional charges. I was told my refund would take 7 days. It’s been 2 weeks and I’m still chasing via email as they do not pick up the phone unless you go through the sales line.

Thank you for your feedback and I’m sorry you had a frustrating experience. Our records show your order was placed on 15/3/2026 and supporting documentation was provided on 23/3/2026 with an installation date quoted at four weeks. We’ve reviewed the circumstances and accept the wait was longer than we aim for. To resolve this, we have agreed to waive the additional costs associated with the delay.

If only I could give zero stars

If only I could give zero stars. After purchase I was told it wouldn't be 2 weeks until installation. It woukd be installed in 3 weeks. I thought oh well another week wont hurt. So I call them after the 3 weeks to find out when they are coming as ive had no communication what so ever from them, Only then to be told that they need to recruit in my area and the recruitment process takes 2 weeks.
At this point I was just wanting my money back.
Had to wait 10 working days for my money back. So basically in total about 5 weeks from purchase to getting my money back. Stay clear. I will be telling everyone I speak to about EV home charging stay well away from chargepoint EV

We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations.

We always aim to complete installations as quickly as possible, and this is clearly stated in our advertising as an estimated timeframe, that stipulates, usually within 2 weeks rather than a guaranteed date. Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing some delays in your area while we actively recruit additional electricians. There is a well-documented shortage of qualified electricians across the UK, largely due to the rapid growth in sustainable energy projects.

We completely understand how frustrating delays can be and apologise that we were unable to meet your expectations on this occasion. Please be assured that we are working hard to complete all installations as quickly as possible.

Regarding your request, we have reviewed this in line with our published refund policy and believe we have acted in accordance with those terms.

Thank you for your feedback — it’s appreciated and helps us continue to improve.

Extremely frustrated with with company.

Extremely frustrated with with company.
The engineer came over for 4 hours of appointed time and then did not bring all the equipment to install the product. Told me it will take another 2 weeks to come again. I had to cancel and they told us i will incur 40 Charge , eventually after arguing they waived it off. I have been waiting since last 3 weeks for refund and I have made more than 25 calls and up till now not resolved. Will be sending me court notice on monday for Refund. Avoid at all cost!

I have proof of everything i have written so happy to provide evidence.

We’re sorry that this installation did not proceed as planned and that the experience has left you feeling dissatisfied.

Based on the photographs and information initially provided, the installation appeared to be straightforward and we scheduled the work accordingly, sending one of our experienced installers to carry out the job. Unfortunately, when our engineer arrived on site, the actual installation requirements were significantly different from what had been presented during the booking process.

Because of these differences, the work could not be completed safely within the planned appointment. As a company, safety and compliance must always come first, and on this occasion the installer had no option but to abort the installation.

We fully appreciate that this was frustrating for both parties. Our team had allocated a full day for the installation, and when circumstances like this arise it results in disruption and lost time for everyone involved.

To resolve the situation, we offered to return and complete the installation once the correct scope of works could be planned. Due to our installation schedule, the earliest available appointment was approximately 2–3 weeks later. Unfortunately, you chose to cancel the order instead.

Despite the time and costs already incurred by our team attending the site, we chose to waive any cancellation or aborted visit charges as a gesture of goodwill.

We always aim for installations to run smoothly and rely on accurate information during the quotation stage so that the correct resources and time can be allocated. Where the on-site conditions differ significantly from what was originally provided, it can unfortunately lead to situations like this.

We wish you the best with your installation moving forward.

Sarcastic and abusive email response from Ian Willis the director when I asked if I could supply the unit myself

I've been seeking a quote for an EV charge point to be installed at my property. Specifically, I was dealing with Ian Willis. They were adding a large markup to the cost of the unit they were proposing so I asked if I could supply the unit myself and they handle the install. I received a deeply sarcastic reply from Ian talking about taking steak to a restaurant and expecting the meal for £5 instead of £15. Totally absurd to find a restaurant analogy since it is in no way applicable to a domestic property where people routinely buy electrical devices themselves and hire professionals to fit them. I replied explaining this and dealing with his points in turn only to receive a reply saying See (C) You (U) Next (N) Tuesday (T) (a well-known, highly offensive acronym.) Highly unprofessionaland offesnsive. Steer clear for all you're worth.

A typical installation should cost around 1k give or take, and even though I'm eligible for a £500 WCS Grant, the quoted install was still almost 1k.

All I asked was if I bought the charger whether he would honour the installation cost quoted. This was my calculation....

£541.67 (for the unit) + £547.50 for a half day of installation service and materials = £1089.17 ex VAT, £1307 inc VAT - £500 grant = £807 total cost to me, not £916 as quoted by Ian!! Clearly they were adding margin to the charger itself so I just wanted to save £109 in these difficult financial times. I'm switching to an EV primarily to save money!

Not an unreasonable request. And certainly not requiring abusive and unprofessional responses littered with sarcasm and profanity.

Thank you for your review.

For transparency to anyone reading this, it’s important to clarify the context behind the pricing mentioned.

The comparison made here is between the wholesale price of a charger purchased online and the price of a fully installed EV charging system. These are not comparable. Our £949 price includes the Ohme charger, professional installation by qualified electricians, all required installation materials, electrical protection, testing, certification, and ensuring the installation complies fully with current UK electrical regulations.

What is also not explained in this review is that the proposed work included installing a new consumer unit and lifting and reinstating carpets and floorboards in order to carry out the installation safely and correctly. Expecting all of this work to be completed for £916 based on the wholesale price of a charger alone is unfortunately not a realistic comparison.

It is also important to note that no installation actually took place. This review relates to a quotation where the customer was attempting to negotiate a lower price by comparing wholesale hardware costs with a full professional installation.

As a company we have installed more than 15,000 EV chargers. The vast majority of our customers are extremely happy with the quality, safety and professionalism of our work. Naturally, reviews tend to attract the small number of situations where a quotation is declined or expectations on price differ.

We stand by our pricing as fair and competitive for a safe, compliant installation carried out by experienced professionals. Our focus is on delivering quality workmanship and fully compliant installations rather than cutting corners to achieve the lowest possible price.

For customers looking for a properly installed, safe and compliant EV charging system backed by experience and professionalism, we are confident our service represents excellent value.

Following your comments regarding the cost of installation, we have reviewed the figures mentioned. Unfortunately, we are unable to determine how those costs have been calculated. However, we can confirm that our pricing for all non-standard works is based on what we consider to be fair, transparent, and reasonable for the work required.

We always encourage customers to review the market and compare options to ensure they are receiving value for money. That said, we firmly believe that the service, workmanship, and materials we provide represent exceptional value.

We would welcome the opportunity to provide a detailed quotation and discuss the requirements with any customer wishing to embark on their EV journey. We have installed thousands of chargers and would encourage anyone to review our satisfied reviews or call us directly, we are on hand to help from
