Review of Hotel Chocolat

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great Products and Staff but Difficult Website and Velvetiser

Overall, I really like Hotel Chocolat. I love their chocolate, the staff in stores are always really helpful and those which have cafes serve nice food and drink (and the cocoa whip is amazing, though the original whip was better than the slightly less firm one you get now). However, the website lets them down - some of the links don't work (including to view/leave product reviews) and the search function doesn't always show you what you're looking for even if it is actually on the website and in stock - you can find it more easily if you go and google it specifically by product name off the website! It's worth it once you find what you're after though and customer service if anything goes wrong has always been great for me. I've had both editions of their velvetiser; the old one was fantastic, the new one sadly is not; it overflows on the cleaning cycle and the first one we had made a grinding noise and broke within the first 3 uses. Quickly replaced without fuss; but the new one still overflows and with all the warnings about not getting the base wet; but the tendency to overflow (and the lid that just sits on rather than sealing like the old one) it makes it seem like one day it's going to leak into the base and destroy it even when it hasn't been overfilled and the instructions followed to the letter. I feel like I can't just leave it to clean itself, I have to watch for it overflowing and catch it with a teatowel. It's been designed to pour well and it does, *but* when you pour liquid in it often splashes up the pour channels and back out onto you - or the device and it's base! So you have to really dribble it in to be sure. It does make good chocolate, but I just feel it's a lot more work and worry than the old one.
Overall, great company, with really good customer service and delicious products, but the website and new edition velvetiser need work.

Effective, Pleasant and Non-Irritant

I picked Fussy because I specifically wanted a deodorant than was not an antiperspirant due to overheating concerns and which didn't make me sniffle with it's scents; and it definitely delivered. It lasts 12-16 hours for me; definitely a full work day even in heatwave conditions. I've found several scents I love - though I wish Gingerbread would come back; I'm running out and it is my absolute favourite. But there's a good choice for different tastes. It doesn't irritate my skin personally, and hasn't left marks on my clothing. I've continued to use Fussy and actually have several cases and scents so I can pick one for my mood :)

Really smooth ordering process

Really smooth ordering process, great selection of products that seem to be good quality to me. Stock levels seem to be good too - I've always been able to get the colours of yarn I was looking for even in more unusual fibres. Delivery has gone smoothly for all orders I've made so far - great!

Convenient but more care needed

Generally I've found InPost convenient, fairly swift and easy to use with my phone. Much better than picking up with ID from a shop. Usually my only complaint is that some couriers slide the parcels right to the back of the lockers and as I'm 4ft 10 and can't reach the top ones to start with, I usually have to find a friendly passerby to help me actually collect my item because it's too far back or too high or both! I wish there was a way to request a lower locker for pickup, it must be impossible if your mobility is impaired. However, my most recent delivery arrived broken despite being very well padded; it looked as if the courier had just thrown it into the locker and one end had been crushed along the way. Basically, if the couriers are careful to put parcels in gently and keep them nearer the front of the lockers, it's great, but a couple of recent deliveries have been disappointingly careless.

Effective and Easy

I dithered a lot before trying fussy deodorant but actually wanted something that wasn't antiperspirant and that's exactly what fussy offered. I have found several scents I really like - there's quite a range - and the minis are a good way to try out new ones, though I'd like it if you could really mix and match any of them. I find it really does work for a full working day - I wouldn't necessarily say 24 hours, but certainly a full work day, and I can be quite active. I am very glad not to be left with spray cans to try to recycle - the case has worked for several refills without problem and whilst I might like a slightly smaller shape for accuracy, it does spread the deodorant evenly and is comfortable to use. I've not experienced any irritation despite eczema-prone skin, even when not using their sensitive skin option; and it doesn't seem to have marked my clothing.

Quick and Easy Process

I find collecting parcels from InPost or dropping off returns to generally be a quick and easy process; there are good notifications and the screen or emails walk you through what to do. A range of parcel sizes are accepted and there's no need for printed labels. Great! Literally my only issue is that sometimes parcels get pushed right to the back of upper lockers and I am only 4ft 10! So I have to ask random strangers to reach things down from the top lockers occasionally. You can request a low locker for drop off, but not for it to be put in a low locker for the person collecting at the other end, so I can also see there being accessibility issues for wheelchair users. But everything else is great!

Quick and Sensible

Quick, simple and sensible email updates. Only issue is I'm 4ft 10 and the top lockers are a bit hard to reach!
