📜⚖️✈️ The next phase of the EU ETS will require more than emissions reporting and we've got some solutions! The European Commission’s proposed revision of the ETS Directive (COM(2026) 616 final, 2026/0212 (COD)) could significantly change the way aviation emissions are priced, reported and managed. The proposal points toward a broader EU ETS aviation scope from 2029, covering a defined share of flights departing the EEA for third-country destinations. At the same time, airlines would have to account for CORSIA obligations through a new cost-deduction mechanism intended to avoid double charging. But geographic scope is only part of the story. 🌍 💶 The proposal also connects aviation sustainability data with access to financial support. It would extend and significantly expand support for sustainable aviation fuels, electricity and hydrogen propulsion. It would also introduce direct incentives for embedding contrail forecasting into flight-planning systems—with additional support where measured trajectory and fuel-flow data are used for non-CO₂ reporting. Airlines will need to connect: ➡️route-level ETS and CORSIA exposure; ➡️verified emissions and allowance obligations; ➡️carbon and offset prices; ➡️SAF procurement and fuel eligibility; ➡️flight-planning and operational data; ➡️non-CO₂ reporting; ➡️funding eligibility; and ➡️long-term sustainability planning. The challenge is therefore becoming analytical as much as regulatory. Sustainability, operations, fuel procurement, finance and compliance teams will need a shared and defensible view of the same data. 🚀 With Contrail Avoidance built into FLIGHTKEYS 5D today—giving every customer a clear path to the ETS discount with a simple feature activation. Additionally, we are developing an in-house aviation sustainability analytics solution designed for this changing reporting dynamic. Our aim is to support airlines throughout their aviation sustainability cycle—from emissions and scope analysis through reporting, scenario modelling, CO2/Non-CO2-cost management and the evaluation of potential decarbonization opportunities. Every Summer Flightkeys is growing its staff by ~10%! Each year this still blows my mind... It's Flightkeys' 11th year and we still give many young adults the oportunity to do a summer internship with us. I am very proud of that and I am very much aware that this is not a management achievement. It's the achievement and effort of everybody in the company. It requires dedication and stamina to spend time with our interns and show them what we do, how a professional work environment can look like and try to make sure they leave with having learned something substantial. We are all aware that this is a sacrifice, since the actual work that we all do is a little affected, but it's an important and vital duty towards society. I know it's an overused term, but these young individuals are our future, the next generation colleagues and someone has to open the doors. So this is a call out to all companies, especially the smaller ones, like we are. Don't be afraid and don't be reluctant. open the doors for summer interns!
