Airlines can't control the price of jet fuel - geopolitics does that. But they control far more of the quantity they burn than most operations exercise today. Where the kilograms hide: centre of gravity targeting on every flight (up to €1M/year per 100 aircraft), accurate zero fuel weight instead of insurance fuel (up to €2M), per-sector galley and potable water (up to €1.4M), improved communication or optimized takeoff data (another €1,5M/year) and alerting that prevents the delays that burn fuel on the ground. The honest part: these savings come from integration and data discipline, not from installing software. But with fuel prices where they are, the business case has never been bigger - for many airlines, payback can come within the first few months of use. Fuel prices are set by the world.
