The #AssetManagers looking after investments and long-term savings are using their influence to challenge companies on environmental, social and governance issues that have the potential to weigh on shareholder value. Alexforbes’ 2026 Stewardship Report gives a sense of the scale of such activities. It reports 395 formal ESG engagements with asset managers covering R8 trillion in assets, while the 32 managers in its network conducted more than 2,600 ESG-specific company engagements during 2025. Alexforbes CEO Dawie de Villiers says sustainable investing helps “better manage risk, identify emerging opportunities and contribute meaningfully to a stable financial future for our clients”. Today, Prudential Financial announced that it has entered into agreements to sell our stake in Alexforbes, our joint venture operation in South Africa, subject to customary approvals and closing conditions. Earlier this year, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sullivan outlined Prudential’s strategy to narrow our geographic footprint by exiting emerging markets and concentrating our capital, talent, and management attention on the areas where we see the greatest opportunity to compete and grow. Today’s announcement regarding Alexforbes demonstrates execution on this strategy. Strategy is most effective when it creates the right long-term path for all involved. That’s one of the reasons we believe this transaction is positive not only for Prudential, but also for Alexforbes, its customers, and its employees.
