We meet every Saturday at 9am for authentic Zen training including two meditation sessions, dharma talk, and tea ceremony. All meetings are free and open to everyone. Sessions are held at the Fourth UU Fellowship of Westchester NY, and via Zoom. Yorktown Zen holds events throughout the year including a yearly Jukai ceremony and periodic intensive meditation retreats. Tesshin Silverman is a lineage holder of the Sanbo Kyodan or 'Three Treasures' school of Japanese Sōtō Zen. He teaches in the US at Yorktown Zen, and in Japan every April as the Abbot of Tetsugyuji Zen Temple in Oita Prefecture on Kyushu, the southmost island. Both temples are authentically recognized by Sotoshu Shumucho, the official headquarters of Japanese Sōtō Zen in Tokyo. All including beginners are warmly invited to learn more about us at https://yorktownzen.org and to join us for zazenkai each Saturday.

Excellent vibe coming from the whole…

Excellent vibe coming from the whole experience! It feels very authentic- the teacher was trained in Japan and has his own teaching monastery/temple there. They do annual trips and sesshin twice a year! You can’t find that in many zen centers . I highly recommend anyone to check it out!

I have been with Yorktown Zen for more…

I have been with Yorktown Zen for more than 2 years. It’s part of my life and my family now . People are caring and loving. It’s a warm and welcoming community. I have referred my friends and family to join it as well. I will always do the same. I have learned a lot from Tessin Roshi who is well qualified and respected. I can’t think him enough to give me life guidance and help me go through tough times. Please come to Zen and you will be glad you did

Great Dharma Talks!

I've been going to Yorktown Zen weekly for just over a month at this point. While new to the practice in general, I immediately felt welcome. Tesshin's explorations of the teaching are very down to earth, yet thought provoking. Looking forward to returning soon!

Authentic but friendly Zen practice in Westchester

New York is known for Zen centers, but typically one must travel upstate or down into New York City. What makes this group so special is that it is right in Northern Westchester. The group is led by an authentic Zen Roshi who did 20 years of study in Japan and remains an abbot of a temple there. While the teacher is authentic and accomplished the group itself is warm and friendly. It is especially open to newcomers and individuals new to Zen and meditation.
