One of the worst banks I’ve ever dealt with. In today’s world, they still expect you to speak German on the phone, and that’s not even the main issue.

To open the account, I had to invest €500. But when you try to get your money back, it becomes almost impossible. I’ve contacted customer support countless times, both in German and English. I’ve tried calling as well, but no one seems able to help.

My advice: think twice before getting involved with this bank.

Locked out for months, total trainwreck

Locked out of my own money for months because Consorsbank can’t keep their systems in sync. Two separate profiles, activation codes sent to the wrong country, endless runarounds, incompetent helpline — their “digital banking” is a joke. After having been a customer for 10 years, I withdrew everything and will never trust this circus with a cent again.

Consorsbank and Cardiff BNP Paribas Insurance – Unreliable and Unacceptable

I am a customer of Consorsbank and hold a credit card with them, including credit card insurance provided by Cardiff BNP Paribas. Although they present themselves as separate entities, both are part of the same BNP Paribas group and even use the same logo. From a customer perspective, this is sold and perceived as one single product under one brand.

I paid almost 13 euros per month for this insurance, which is a very high premium. I relied on it because I needed to withdraw cash for urgent medical services. Paying was never a problem. The problems started the moment I actually needed the insurance.

The handling of my case has been extremely slow and incompetent. I was informed that the response time could be up to four weeks. This is completely unacceptable for an insurance product, especially one connected to medical expenses. If this is their standard processing time, they clearly do not have enough staff to handle customer claims properly.

I live in Germany and communicated with both the bank and the insurance company in German. When I called Consorsbank, I spoke to a representative who clearly assured me that everything I had paid since I was fired would be returned to me. To this day, I have received nothing.

Instead of a solution, I am being sent back and forth between Consorsbank and the insurance company. Despite being part of the same group, responsibility is repeatedly shifted and no one takes ownership of the issue. Communication is extremely slow, it takes a long time to reach anyone, and promises are not followed by action. This raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and customer protection.

This is not how insurance should work. Insurance is supposed to provide support and financial security when it is needed most. What I experienced was delay, confusion, and empty assurances.

I strongly regret not reading customer reviews before signing up. Based on my experience, Consorsbank and its associated insurance do not meet reasonable expectations for reliability or customer care. I would not recommend this bank or its insurance products to anyone who expects timely handling, clear responsibility, or professional support.

I am now documenting this experience publicly because the lack of response and accountability leaves me with no confidence that this matter will be handled properly.

Absolutely terrible

Absolutely terrible. They canceled my account after more than 20 years in good standing and refused to tell me why. They then were not able to transfer the securities in my account to a new account I opened. First I asked them to transfer those to Interactive Brokers and it took them more than 4 weeks to tell me they can't do it. I then asked them to transfer those to an account with Deutsche Bank and it took them another 4 weeks to tell me that they could't do it. I then sold those and tried to transfer my funds to Wise. Again, this was 4 weeks ago and they now told they can't do it. So I am still waiting to get access to my money. I am planning to file a complaint with the German Banking Regulator, This is just below anything I ever experienced in my 40+ years in dealing with financial institutions.
PS: in retrospect, as annoying as it was, I am quite glad they canceled my account. I had to do some research for an alternative and found one which offers better services at much lower cost.

Awful bank basically you have to pay…

Awful bank basically you have to pay 100 dollars before any money can be transferred in. Then when you want to pay someone you have to pay 500 dollars for an imf code. Which my partner has done. Still no code received and after several emails sent no reply is sent. So basically they have my partners money held hostage. He's stuck overseas with no way of accessing his money until they send the code. Basically its one big scam stick to a high street well known bank

Extremely lenghty/slow process to open an account.

Extremely lenghty/slow process to open an account; which could be avoided, in my view. Around three weeks. After providing documents and doing ID verification process - twice: with video call and post office; I am still asked to provide further documents or missing information. Straight from the start of the application to open an account (at the first contact/email), why it is not all the process clear and all documents requested? Waste of everyone's time and energy. This makes me think how good any other process of account holders would be. I strongly suggest reviewing your processes. Especially nowadays where time and good processes flow are so important.

Rasist, snobs!!!!!

Piece of shit!!! These bastards don't speak English not even in emergency situations!!! Wtf I am supposed to do if my VISA card is stolen and I must block it asap? I cannot even call the bank to ask to do that because they will simply refuse talking to me!!! Unbelievable how this can happen in EU country. I am not a jobless person who just lives from other people's money in Germany. I am highly-skilled scientist who only works in English-speaking community and still I am treated like a piece of trash in all German institutions. I cannot wait when my research is done and I can leave the country fod good.

This is a terrible bank with a terrible customer service and terrible outdated procedures…

This is a terrible bank with a terrible customer service and system. I am overseas and my account is locked. When I call the bank it goes to message bank to call later which I have done numerous times. I wrote and they want per POST or FAX signed documents to send me a PIN. I had to borrow money to pay for airfares and still have not been able to access my accounts. Unbelievable slow and bureaucratic procedures like in the last century. I hate this bank

I am an American citizen

I am an American citizen, that moved to Germany. Consorsbank strung me along for 4 weeks, asking for a different document. I speak fluent German and in my last conversation I was told, since I speak fluent German my SCHUFA score was non existent and therefore I was denied a account. DO NOT OPEN A ACCOUNT WITH THEM!

This "bank" is a criminal organisation

This "bank" is a criminal organisation. After 20 years of having held various accounts the relationship was terminated without reasons. The termination was not legally valid as not sent my mail but just uploaded in their online register.
They blocked my accounts and refused to remit my assets. Multiple telephone conversations with incompetent "customer service" officers were wasted time.
Proceeding a law suit.

Anyone careful to entrust any assets and funds to those fraudsters

Customer service - a joke

Customer service is a joke! Joke, joke joke! Shockingly rude people with zero patience snap at you as if they are being bothered because your call disturbed their afternoon nap. Very rude, snappy, unfriendly, that it even becomes funny at one point. Another absurd thing is that the call was actually - recorded for educational purposes. Lol to educate further how to offer the worst customer support?

Better avoid this bank, because what they offer you can really get anywhere else. Just do your research.
