I started creating Blurb books back in 2010 using Booksmart. I have created over 150 different titles and spent £17K with them. The announcement to drop Booksmart has not been handled well. The conver... See more

Shipping adds 20% to the cost
Shipping is way too expensive. You invest hours and hours prepping your book based on an expected price for the shipping to inflate it by 20%. It clearly doesn't just cover the cost of shipping as adding a second book almost doubled the shipping fee.
Yet to receive our wedding photo book, it better be good given how much we paid.
Fraud Alert
Fraud Alert! Build into the program is an 8% surcharge that is NEVER disclosed. While building your book, up on the left corner, they kindly put a price of what the book will cost. As you add, pages the price is updated.
HOWEVER, when you click "add to cart" the next page, and all other check out pages will show a new price, with an 8% increase. It's not part of shipping or taxes, all that gets calculated later. I have been waiting 5 days for a reply, and nothing.
A bad review shouldn't be a surprise…
A bad review shouldn't be a surprise for Blurb printing. I ordered a 20 page art book and I'm quite disappointed in the quality of printing I received. There seems to be little attention to detail, such as colors being off and whites having a black/shadow areas bleeding into surrounding areas. This project is very important to me and I'm looking for a printing company from which I can order multiple copies.
If you want a good printing job, including one where the printer doesn't place their logo on your project, you want to choose someone other than Blurb. It was an expensive mistake for me that I won't make again.
Booo Blurb, you suck.

I paid for my order to be shipped overnight and it appears to be in limbo or lost at Blurb. There has been no updates for more than a week and I was scheduled to get it by now. I am having an issue with the reliability of their shipping commitments. Order #12866146, Tracking #446924871488
25 defective zines and no resolution…
25 defective zines and no resolution before an upcoming event
My experience began with a proof copy that was lost in shipping. Blurb replaced it and sent it through a different carrier. That replacement proof looked good, so on September 15 I ordered 25 copies of my photography zine for an October 11 event and paid for expedited shipping.
The order arrived on September 21, but the copies had flat, dark, muddy color reproduction, misaligned spines, and registration problems—a disappointing difference from the acceptable proof.
I provided full-resolution photographs documenting the problems with all 25 copies and requested a quality-controlled reprint at no additional cost. On September 25 I was told my ticket would be transferred to someone who handles these requests. On September 28, Blurb wrote that my case had been escalated to a Senior Agent.
As of October 5, I have received no further response despite multiple follow-ups, including one this morning.
As a photographer who previously worked in a photo lab, I understand the care that print production requires. I ordered well ahead of my event and paid for expedited shipping, yet I am now less than a week away with 25 defective copies and no resolution.
I am asking Blurb to resolve ticket #2024189 promptly and confirm whether a quality-controlled reprint can be produced and delivered before October 11. If that is no longer possible, I need a clear alternative resolution.
I will update this review if the issue is resolved.
Book design to printing
I have self printed many books using Blurb the quality of the printed books and service has been exceptional, from ordering to printing to delivery. I used to use BookSmart to design my books but this has been retired and superseded by BookWright. I have ordered several books online the time from ordering to delivery is fast around 10 days, I am very pleased with the end product. Luckily the 7 or so books I designed are still available for ordering. The difficult I have now with BookSmart having retired I would need to export and convert the design back into BookWright which I am currently trying to do, it’s fiddly. As an online book design and printing option I personally can’t fault it, practice makes perfect in the design side of it, but o do recommend Blurb.
Blurb abandon it's Booksmart customers…
Blurb abandon it's Booksmart customers and expects them to follow them to BookWright but gives no migration path for unpublished books then claims their is nothing they can do. Don't start down the BookWright path.

Spent 40 hours putting together a family photo book. I uploaded from my photos app on my laptop. I went to work on my book, and all the photos were gone from my project. Their technical “support” said sorry can’t do anything. I hadn’t moved my photos or done anything inside the project to do this. Stay far away from this software!!
I have not been getting my royalties…
I have not been getting my royalties for my book although it is even in major retail stores and it constantly has copies resold on ebay for my books. It is even in Walmart and on my dashboard it shows that I have no profit for that. I have another book that I published recently and the situation is the same. I just want to make a living doing what I love and this company is hurting me. Is it because I am from the Caribbean, that's why they think this is okay? Is this what you do to foreigners who use your platforms? Please let me know so I can get legal recourse.
Exquisite Book & Impeccable Quality
I can't speak to the negative reviews posted, but if I could give Blurb more than 5 stars, I truly would. I had a 28-page standard landscape photobook printed as a gift for a dear friend, with very rich artwork, imagery and vector typeface uploaded from PDFs, and the finished book is exquisite. The quality of the layflat binding, the heavy stock pages printed, and color reproduction and the finishing details are all impeccable. Yes the shipping might be expensive. And yes, the book is more expensive than something you'll find at Snapfish or Shutterfly, but Blurb is ultra-premium by comparison, true desktop publishing. I am so glad I went with Blurb for printing this book, which will be a special keepsake for a dear friend's milestone birthday. No shade on Snapfish or Shutterfly, as I've used them before and was satisfied with their quality. But this book was different. Blurb is next level, and they delivered flawlessly.

I would not recommend Blurb for family photo books. It's very difficult to drag photos and have them fit into the layout that you choose. I gave up working on the first page. I was looking for a cheaper alternative to Shutterfly but would not recommend Blurb to anyone.
Blurb delivered exactly the product…
Blurb delivered exactly the product they advertised. The software had a learning curve, but it was intuitive enough that I didn't need tutorials. Manufacturing was fast—I had the book in about a week. The print quality matched the premium claim: colors were rich without being oversaturated, detail held up well, matte paper gave the images a sophisticated feel, and there were no unexpected printing artifacts or resolution issues. The only caveat is that a standard perfect-bound softcover doesn't lay flat, but that's a characteristic of the binding, not a manufacturing flaw. If you want a lay-flat book, you need to order the lay-flat product.
Great help and (though a bit slow) customer service. I’ll use them again.
I had initial problems with a photo book I had submitted to Blurb and getting their customer service to respond to the issues. In the end, they came through to make everything peachy-keen and resolved the issues in question. I’m giving them 4/5 because they took so long to get back to me (two weeks) and need a more responsive customer support process. Other than that, no complaints.
Useless
Useless. Allegedly delivered my order BUT today haven't. Their fault/couriers fault, doesn't matter. Net result I don't have the product I paid £100-00 for!
I’m very very happy about my book
I’m very very happy about my book, the program is excellent and organized very well. I suggest this site if you want erite your book for the firsts times! Also the shipping is incredibly fast, i’m surprised. My book arroved 3 day earlier.
Unusable Magazines I designed for my wedding
For my wedding, I designed a 32 page magazine that consisted of our wedding timeline, ceremony order, wedding party, fun facts about us as bride and groom, how we met, honeymoon details, signature cocktails, bar and dinner menu, guest awards, vendor details, and much more.... I ordered 99 magazines for my wedding, 1/3 of them were completely useable - trimming was so poor to where the border was completely cut off for so many of them. When I tried to get this resolved, I ended up sharing over 10 emails and 25 different photos in the exact way they asked for them and the only thing I was offered was a 40% discount on my next order. I just wanted a refund of the ones that were poorly done, not a 40% discount on my next order- there won't be a next order. And when I hoped it would get resolved, they went unresponsive. I'm confident that the lack of response was in hopes that I would just move on and forget the entire thing however when many of your guests did not receive a magazine like planned and after you spend more than $700- you expect to have high quality work. This is extremely disappointing we were only offer a discount code and not a partial refund. I'm not even asking for a full refund- only one for the magazines we couldn't use.
Botched Order / Good Customer Service
The first order we did, 4 out of 30 books were worth keeping. Each book was cut to a different size, borders were uneven or non-existent. Colors were unsaturated. However, customer service was quick to correct the situation and do a reprint. They should have provided free expedited shipping too. I had to wait a week. The reprint was fine. But it was like there was no quality control for that first order.
Blurb is disappointing
I’ve ordered from Blurb for years, but my most recent experience was disappointing. The paper quality was flat and lifeless — it didn’t do justice to my photography at all. When I contacted them about it, instead of offering to reprint the book or make it right, they simply tried to sell me another one. That felt dismissive of a legitimate concern. After years of loyalty, I’ve decided to take my business elsewhere
What's up with no customer service line…
What's up with no customer service line and after I approved the layout, it printed with a white line at the bottom of all pages? I would never have approved that--it wasn't visible in their process and why would they print that if they saw it. No way to catch simple issues like this? I resized the thing a million times to get it right and then I get it printed like this. Yikes.
I got the proof on my book and now want…
I got the proof on my book and now want to order soft and hard copy versions of my book. The problem is that no soft cover option is made available on my on-line order form and there is no one returning help messages at Blurb. I certainly can't get anyone to return my two messages. What gives, Blurb??
