They only stick to agreement when it benefits them

Without knowing all the details about your particular loan and situation, I can share the most common case where this can happen.
If a borrower has direct debit (meaning: autogiro) repayments set up, and makes a manual repayment alongside the direct debit, both payments are treated as individual repayments of the loan. For example, if you have a loan of 10,000 SEK and has a scheduled repayment of 1,000 SEK but also make a manual repayment around the same time of 1,000 SEK - it will count as two repayments of the loan, leaving 8,000 SEK remaining in debt.
Should you however have 10,000 SEK in debt, and repay more than your outstanding debt - for example 14,000 SEK, you will of course be refunded the excess which in this example would be 4,000 SEK.
I hope that my explanation helped to better understand how it works, if the example is applicable to your situation.
