This company does not abide by a written contract. What a scam.

My husband and I signed an agreement for a move across the country for 300 cubic square feet. The movers showed up today and stated that all of our things would take up too much space and that it would cost another $8,000. All of our things are not even 260 cubic square feet. I have attached videos of the measurements of our things to show that they take up less space than what we paid for. Absolutely do not hire this company, as they do not abide by their own written contract.

Stay away. They will quote you one thing then on the moving date they will 3x-4x the price. You would think you’re asking for the container size truck or container size but that’s how they get you. They will ask for inventory list and you better be very very specific on the size of everything to the inches and quantity of everything to individual items. Then check and make sure all of it is listed in the inventory list and DON’T let them tell you that they will note it, it won’t matter.
Best thing is STAY AWAY FROM THEM

I want to share our experience with… Coastal Movers, Subcontracted by Rockstar movers

I want to share our experience with Coastal Moving Services because I wish I'd found a post like this before we booked them, and because what happened to my elderly mother shouldn't happen to anyone.

TL;DR: DO NOT USE THEM. Coastal is a broker, not the actual moving company. They use subcontracted crews - ours were from Rockstar. All of the workers were immigrants, and based on things I overheard and seeing their workload, I am worried that they may be being exploited. The whole experience was disorganized and predatory: overnight packing, pressure to post a good review under threat of an extra $1,500 charge, no proration on a storage extension, a delivery that arrived two days late with no real communication, and a huge mess left behind: damaged furniture, unopened boxes dumped in the garage, and items that aren't even ours mixed in while some of my mother's things are still missing.

The move-out: The crew that came to pack my 87-year-old mother's home worked hard, but they didn't finish packing until 3 a.m. They arrived very late. At some point during the job, we were told we'd be charged an extra $1,500 unless I posted a review on Trustpilot right then. I felt pressured, but I went ahead and wrote it the guys had physically worked hard, so I gave them credit for that even though the situation felt off. I didn't understand how off until later, when I saw how many other people online have described almost identical experiences.

Storage: My mother needed her stuff held in storage for a few extra days beyond the original date. Instead of prorating those three or four days, Coastal or whichever subcontractor (because this is an unclear maze) charged her for an entire additional month about $700.

Customer service: Getting anyone on the phone to resolve an issue is difficult. When I finally did get through, the call was hostile rather than helpful. Angie, the "customer service" rep, yelled at me, threatened me and refused to give me information. Because Coastal is a broker and everything is handled by subcontractors, every problems gets deflected "that's on the subcontractor," "that's on someone else" and there's no single party who will actually take ownership and fix anything.

Delivery: Coastal missed the delivery date they'd promised. When the crew (a subcontractor called Rockstar) finally arrived two days late, at around 7:30 p.m., they brought the furniture into the house but did not unpack anything, despite what we'd been told to expect. When I raised it, I was told the fine print says they don't unpack. Boxes — including kitchen boxes — were just crammed into the garage instead of being placed in the rooms they belonged in. The crew had to stop mid-job because they had an overnight, nine-hour drive to their next job in Idaho. This was concerning because the crew was clearly exhausted so they really don't care about their people.

The damage: This is the part that upsets me most. My mother's furniture was damaged glass coffee table tops were never unpacked or set up properly, and her Sleep Number-style beds arrived dirty and damaged. We're also missing an unknown amount of her belongings (unknown because everything is still sealed in boxes in the garage), and we ended up with furniture in our home that isn't ours. My 87-year-old mother currently doesn't have a proper bed to sleep in because of how this was left. Angie did not care that we have other people's furniture. She told me that I have to file a claim. If you are missing a beautiful antique armoire or a large snowman holiday decoration, let us know, we have it. If you have an antique round table and a mobility device for an elderly person, please let us know - we need the mobility device. They told me that we'd have to file a claim, but one of the guys who moved us in and saw the damage said that there would likely only be $5k of coverage, which won't begin to to cover the damage.

Coastal's position is that they fulfilled the contract. I don't agree. Between the overcharging, the lack of communication, the missed dates, the damage, the missing and mismatched items, and being pressured into leaving a positive review mid-job, this was one of the worst service experiences we've dealt with. I'd strongly encourage anyone considering Coastal Moving Services to look closely at their recent reviews and to ask up front, in writing, exactly what "unpacking," delivery windows, and storage proration actually mean in your contract because what you're told verbally may not match the fine print. Also, keep your elderly family members and friends away from this company.

Happy to answer questions if anyone else is dealing with this company right now.

Subcontractors are NOT properly vetted.

I was matched with Loadrans through Coastal Moving Services (a broker I will not work with again). I had to pack my disabled brother’s belongings as a recent health crisis meant he was no longer able to live in his assisted living community. I signed the contract through Coastal Moving and made the first of 3 payments. In retrospect, the fact that the “pickup” and “delivery” payments had to be cash, Zelle, or money order should have been a huge red flag. The first problem was the day of the pickup. We were given a pickup window of 1:00-4:00. At 4:10 I finally received a call saying they were just leaving to come and do the pickup. They arrived at 4:57. Loadrans picked up my brother’s belongings on August 12th. At the time of the pickup I was asked to pay more than the estimate (estimated amount was $1171, the amount paid by Zelle was $1550). They did not provide a receipt for the amount paid (my son was the one who let them in as I was at the hospital with my brother, and my son didn’t realize the importance of getting a receipt for the amount paid). Calls to Costal Movers were met with “your dispute is with Loadrans, ma’am. There’s nothing we can do.” The agreed upon delivery date was August 14th. In the morning I called to ask for a delivery window and was told they would call the day before the delivery to let me know when they would be there. As it was already the 14th, it was clear they would not be delivering on time. It is now August 21st and not only have they made no phone calls or delivered my brother’s possessions, when I call they tell me that “dispatch doesn’t have any information” about when a truck will be available to deliver. After several days of going back and forth like this, the person who answers the phone tried to tell me we had not yet paid the pickup payment, then modified that to say we’d paid $1171 but that the amount did not equal 2/3 of the cost of the delivery. As I had paid $1550, this gave me cause for alarm. Since then I have called multiple times, asked to speak to someone in a supervisory role and/or someone in accounting, but all they do is put me on hold then hang up or send me to a voicemail box that is already full. Yesterday, they were going to schedule delivery by the weekend, today it’s Monday by 2:30 PM. All of my brother’s worldly possessions have been hijacked and, based on the misinformation the company provided about the amount paid, I anticipate we will be overcharged in order to get his things back. My brother doesn’t have much of any value (his prized possession is his collection of candy containers and a bookshelf made by our now-deceased father), but it’s EVERYTHING he has. I am heartbroken for him and very afraid we will never see those items again.

They'll charge you more when they arrive

After the deposit was already paid and a price was agreed on, they showed up(late) and quoted us and extra $2000. They said we had extra inventory which was a lie because we went over the packing list twice before they came. DO NOT HIRE THEM!!!

TOTAL NIGHTMARE

This company has been a total nightmare. They never presented themselves as a broker. We agreed on the price based on a detailed list of items, we agreed on delivery date and terms. Only for them to hire another company that makes you sign a NEW contract with new unbelievable terms at pick up, charging you so much more for the move… then you find out your stuff sit in a warehouse they won’t tell you the location of, any time you ask for a delivery date, they say they will let you know when a route becomes available meanwhile your things are held hostage with no end in sight. Coastal does not help and hang up on you when you call. It has been almost a month since pick up, they have yet to tell me when I get my belongings, hearing nightmare stories about how they charge you even more at delivery and you’re lucky if all your stuff even show up and if they’re still in tact. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Read the Fine Print

First, I was charged an extra $900, as they are packing my stuff up, even after I removed dining room table and washer and dryer from the initial estimate.

Second, they asked me for a primary delivery date, only to find "it is in your contract" they have 21 days from THAT day to deliver your stuff. So my stuff had not even left the state I left at that point, 17 days later. Let us see if they want to charge me beyond the "free" 30 days of storage if it is going to take them that long to get me my stuff.

Third, there was not even an attempt made to have my stuff here on the date they pressed me to give them.

Fourth, they use contractors so no one has responsibility for this song and dance.

They just want your money. They do not care about quality of service or the impact this will have on your life.

Don't use this company

This company has been horrible to work with. They gave me one quote to start and then 2 days before the move gave me another quote. Then they contracted it out to another company. When the new company showed up, they said I was given an incorrect quote. In the end, it cost me double(10K) than what I was originally quoted. Their customer service is horrible and they don't resolve anything. I can't even get through to the contracted company to get a straight answer to when my belongings will actually be delivered. DO NOT USE this company

DO NOT USE THEM

I would give it zero stars if that was an option. I was completely misled as to timing of delivery. The day you give them for delivery is a “first available day of delivery” and they can legally deliver any time up to 30 days after. The one person who finally answered the phone told me my items would be there some time within 10 days of the first available delivery date. After that contact, they went dark and only responded when contacted by my attorney. Fortunately, I got my items just 5 days later and was notified 40 minutes before delivery. I was charged less than half of what they quoted me. Do not use them.

Sketchiest movers ever

Sketchiest movers ever. They tried to double the price at the last minute, but I told them I'd just take the extra in the minivan and they could move what they could move at the original price. This turned out to be a good thing, because it took them 2 weeks to deliver, with constant promises of "it's coming today!" followed by nothing. When my stuff finally arrived, it was after 9 pm and they just unloaded stuff onto the lawn without any checking of inventory or even counting boxes. When I told them about a third of my boxes were missing, they said "I don't do inventory. The company will call you." So then the company claimed "We're just a broker, not our problem." Yep, it's a problem. Going to alert the police and DOT about this shady company and the drivers they hire.

My experience with Coastal Moving…

My experience with Coastal Moving Services (coastalmovingservices.com)has been an absolute nightmare.

I was moving my family from **Tucson, Arizona, to Jacksonville, Florida**. Before I booked anything, I spoke with Robert and sent him photos of **all of my belongings** so there would be no guessing about the size of the move.

After reviewing those photos, Robert told me that **560 cubic feet would be more than enough**.

That statement is the reason I agreed to the deal.

The price looked reasonable. I thought I had done everything correctly. I showed them what I owned, they evaluated it, they gave me the space estimate, and I booked the move.

Then pickup day came.

Instead of Coastal Moving Services arriving, a truck from Rapid Express Moving and Storage showed up at my house. The movers looked at my belongings and told me that the 560 cubic feet I had purchased would carry only about **half of my stuff**.

Then came the surprise:

**They wanted approximately $5,000 more.**

Five thousand dollars. On pickup day. After I had already sent photos of everything and had been assured that 560 cubic feet was sufficient.

What was I supposed to do at that point?

My family was in the middle of an interstate move. I could not suddenly produce another $5,000 because their original estimate was apparently nowhere close to what the pickup company was now claiming.

So I had to make a decision I should never have been forced to make.

I threw away roughly half of my furniture.

Furniture we owned. Furniture we planned to take to our new home. Gone because the price and space I was quoted before the move were completely different from what I was told when the truck was already sitting outside my house.

And somehow, that was not the worst part.

It has now been about **six weeks since pickup**.

I called today expecting to hear when my belongings would finally arrive in Jacksonville.

Instead, I was told something I could barely believe:

MY BELONGINGS ARE STILL IN ARIZONA.

After approximately a month and a half, they apparently have not even made it out of the state where they were picked up.

I asked a very simple question:

When will my belongings be delivered?

Their answer?

There is **no delivery date assigned**, and they **do not know when they will be delivered**.

Read that again.

They have had my belongings for approximately six weeks. My property is still in Arizona. And they cannot even give me a delivery date.

This is not what I understood I was purchasing when I hired Coastal Moving Services.

I was given an estimate after providing photos of my belongings. That estimate turned into a demand for roughly $5,000 more at pickup. I ended up abandoning half of my furniture. The remaining belongings were taken. Six weeks later, they are still in Arizona, and I cannot even get a meaningful delivery timeline.

If you are considering Coastal Moving Services at coastalmovingservices.com, please learn from my experience.

Get the cubic-foot estimate in writing.

Get the maximum price in writing.

Ask exactly which company will physically perform the move.

Get the delivery window in writing.

And understand exactly what happens if the pickup company suddenly claims your belongings require substantially more space.

Because once the truck is at your house and your entire move is already in motion, your negotiating power is very different.

I trusted the estimate I was given. I trusted Coastal Moving Services with my belongings. I deeply regret both decisions.

Based on what my family has experienced, I would never use Coastal Moving Services again, and I strongly recommend that others think very carefully before trusting them with an interstate move.

Warning - HORRIBLE Experience

Warning - Do NOT USE this service. It is a scam. They say they work with only qualified movers that they themselves VET. Once they pass you off - you are forgotten - and they no longer take any accountability.
Our moving experience was horrible! We were passed off to multiple movers, no one could tell us specifics as to where our belongings were - or when they would ultimately be delivered.
And, once they were delivered - we have several missing items, boxes of various items including winter coats and tools. Items that were delivered were damaged - a significant number of damaged pieces of furniture. Not just chips - but gouges in wood pieces, broken dishes that had been packed in specific dish containers and then put into heavy duty plastic bins.
The price was raised by each successive mover - so that the original quote was inflated by more than 25%.
I repeat - DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Use a major mover for hour own protection - you may pay a little more (but who really knows with the subsequent increases from the original quote).
I hope this company goes out of business - it would be better for all of us!

Coastal Moving is a broker and a poor one

Coastal Moving is a broker — not the company that actually moves your belongings.

When we hired Coastal Moving, it was not made clear to us that they would simply coordinate our move with another carrier. The sales process felt like smoke and mirrors, and what we were promised was very different from what actually happened.

We were quoted approximately 7 days from pickup to delivery at a total cost of $2,400. Here is what actually occurred:

1. A completely different company arrived for pickup. Cross Country Moving showed up to move our belongings. Only after our items were loaded were we told that the truck would first travel from Ohio to New Jersey, where our belongings would be consolidated with other shipments before eventually being transported to Florida.
2. Our 7-day move took 29 days and the price increased from $2,400 to $4,000. We ended up paying an additional $1,600. Upon delivery, the driver demanded the additional money before our belongings would be unloaded.
3. Many of our belongings arrived damaged. The truck was packed from top to bottom with boxes and belongings crushed and smashed together. We estimate the value of our damaged items at more than $2,000.

Had we understood that Coastal Moving was acting as a broker, that our belongings would be transported to another state for consolidation, that a quoted 7-day move could take 29 days, and that our $2,400 quote could ultimately become $4,000, we never would have hired them.

Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Coastal Moving. Consumers should understand exactly what they are purchasing, who will actually be transporting their belongings, and what protections they have against significant increases in cost and delivery time before signing anything.

An absolute nightmare from start to finish

An absolute nightmare from start to finish. Do not use Coastal Moving Services.

I strongly recommend staying away from Coastal Moving Services. What was supposed to be a professional, white-glove long-distance move from New Jersey to Pennsylvania turned into one of the most stressful and expensive moving experiences we’ve ever had.

I want to be fair: the individual movers were generally nice and respectful. My issue is with Coastal’s sales process, communication, pricing, contract, and overall handling of the move.

When I first contacted Coastal, their representative John Thompson conducted a FaceTime walkthrough of our entire home. I showed him our attic, basement, garage, furniture, boxes, and essentially everything we planned to move. Based on that walkthrough, we were quoted approximately $5,800 for 1,106 cubic feet.

We were also strongly encouraged to lock in our moving date and sign quickly because we were told the date was popular. I signed a 12-page contract, but I did not feel the important terms, potential price changes, or Coastal’s role as a broker were adequately explained.

A few days before the move, we completed another detailed inventory review. The estimate increased to approximately $7,890 and 1,177 cubic feet, including a $1,500 Premium Guaranteed Delivery Service charge.

Then the movers arrived.

Despite Coastal having conducted a FaceTime walkthrough of our entire home and us completing another inventory review, we were suddenly told that we had far too much stuff and that the move could cost approximately $13,000.

Original estimate: ~$5,800
Revised estimate: ~$7,890
At pickup: ~$13,000

How does a company walk through your entire house over FaceTime and then have the movers claim your shipment is nearly twice the estimated size?

I refused to pay $13,000, so a significant amount of our belongings had to be left behind. We then had to rent a U-Haul, pack and load everything ourselves, and drive approximately six hours to Pittsburgh. This was absolutely not what we expected when paying thousands of dollars for professional moving services.

The delivery was also far from “white glove.” Furniture was damaged, our bed was improperly reassembled, chairs were left with missing screws/hardware, and there was little to no unpacking or placement of belongings.

When we complained, Coastal repeatedly emphasized that they were “just the broker” and that the carrier was responsible for the physical move. We understand that Coastal is a broker, but Coastal was the company that sold us the service, conducted the walkthrough, provided the estimate, and collected our money.

We asked Coastal for a reasonable partial refund and gave them multiple opportunities to resolve the situation. They refused and ultimately told us their position was final.

Our experience included:

• Pressure to book quickly
• A lengthy contract that was not adequately explained
• Poor communication
• Multiple inventory reviews
• A massive increase in the quoted cubic footage
• A potential ~$13,000 charge at pickup
• A $1,500 premium delivery charge
• Having to rent our own U-Haul and move a significant portion ourselves
• Damaged furniture
• Missing hardware
• Improper reassembly
• Little to no white-glove service
• No meaningful resolution from Coastal

I would not use Coastal Moving Services again. If you’re considering them, read every page of the contract, get every verbal promise in writing, and make absolutely sure you understand how your price can change before you pay a deposit.

For us, what was supposed to be a professional long-distance move became a $10,000+ ordeal where we still had to move a significant portion of our own belongings ourselves.

I cannot recommend Coastal Moving Services based on our experience.

STAY AWAY

STAY AWAY! Our experience with Coastal Moving Services and sales representative Ryan Harper has been extremely troubling.

We made it very clear to Ryan that we were moving a disabled veteran from Georgia to Florida and that the delivery had to occur on a specific date because the shipment included furniture and equipment the veteran relies on for daily living. Ryan assured us the delivery date would be met, and that date was reflected in our contract.

After the furniture and equipment were picked up and the movers left, we were suddenly told they could not provide a delivery date and that delivery could take anywhere from 7 to 21 days beyond the date we were originally promised.

Even worse, the price increased dramatically from the original quote after the truck was already loaded. At that point, the veteran’s belongings and essential equipment were already in their possession, leaving us with very little leverage.

Based on our experience, we believe the sales process was misleading regarding both pricing and delivery expectations. We have reported our concerns to the appropriate agencies, including the VA, BBB, and Senior Protective Services.

Anyone considering Coastal Moving Services should get every promise in writing, carefully review the delivery terms, and understand exactly who will be transporting the belongings and what additional charges may be imposed before paying a deposit or allowing anything to be loaded.

Bait and Switch

Bait and Switch - Do NOT use this moving company. First Coastal Movers are BROKERS they are NOT the company that moves your furniture to you - you will have at least two of their subcontractors that will move your things. My furniture was stored with one of their outside vendors 5 days before my furniture left California. I was given a quote that doubled by the time the movers showed up 20 days later in Georgia! I was given a quote with estimated square footage - when the movers came some of my tables and furniture were disassembled causing my estimate to increase! I was asked to Zelle the difference from the estimate I was quoted plus additional charges??!! In order to cover the replacement of things missing you must pay high insurance instead of the .60 per pound without insurance. My things came with loose dirt where a plant or some other dirty object was placed on my boxes. My Home-Depot heavy duty moving boxes came crushed on the sides - my kitchen garbage can was dented on the sides and my high back dining room chairs were pushed in the back. Some of my personal effects are missing for example, a box of towels are missing - but I don't care because I want to NEVER want to be in contact with this company. PLEASE DO NOT USE
