Help advocate for safer, cleaner shipping this #WorldMaritimeDay! 🚢 No matter where we live across the country, most of us rely on global shipping for everyday products. And while shipping plays a large role in the U.S. economy, it also plays a large role in exacerbating climate change. Right now, lawmakers want to roll back two California Clean Air Act waivers that protect our ocean and port communities around the country from toxic shipping fumes. We’re calling on the Senate to say NO to these rollbacks. The numbers show just what’s at stake. Recent updates to the rules are projected to: 🚢 Cut cancer risk near major ports by 55%+ 🚢 Reduce cancer-causing pollution by 89% 🚢 Save $7+ billion in health care costs Take action TODAY. It's no surprise that shipping is central to the global economy. Ships carry more than 80% of goods traded worldwide by volume, and connect production, consumption, food systems, energy supply chains and industrial activities across regions. But global shipping also drives significant greenhouse gas emissions and exacerbates the climate crisis.   In order for countries to fully decarbonize their economies, they must proactively address shipping and ports in their climate policies, plans and commitments. That's where Ocean Conservancy's new tool comes in. Meet our newest Protect Where We Play Team Ocean Coach: Amani Toomer! 🏈 This NFL veteran cares deeply about our planet. His professional history is legendary, and we know his impact on the future of our ocean will be, too. Amani spent his career as a wide receiver and punt returner with the New York Giants, is a 2007 Super Bowl XLII champion and to this day holds franchise records for receiving yards, receptions and receiving touchdowns. This champion's professional history is full of extraordinary accomplishments, and we could not be more thrilled to welcome him to our roster of Team Ocean Coaches.
