Roei Samuel أعاد نشر ذلكRoei Samuel أعاد نشر ذلكI’ve been a little quiet on here for a while… thanks to those who’ve noticed! Having trodden the fractional and advisory path myself over the past couple of years, I’ve been on the hunt for the next senior leadership role and business that aligned with my ambitions and experience—and I am thrilled to have secured just that in joining the team at Connectd as VP of Sales. Consistently voted as one of the UK’s and Europe’s fastest-growing tech start-ups by the likes of the FT, The Sunday Times and Deloitte, over the past 5 years Connectd has seen exceptional growth and huge success in connecting fractional and advisory experts with innovative start-ups. Today Connectd finds itself at a pivotal inflection point where we scale and build a business ready for new markets, segments and solutions for our customers, and two weeks’ in I am so excited at the prospect of driving this business forward and maximising its potential. I’d like to thank Oliver Tarpey, James Matthews, Benjamin Parker and Samuel Morris for the opportunity and warm welcome, and above all our fearless founder and CEO Roei Samuel for devising such an interesting business concept in the first place! We have big plans and as we scale further will be looking to add additional sales talent in both the UK and US markets in the near future—we’re only getting started 🚀

Roei Samuel شارك ذلكThe best founder decision I made this year was not having an assistant. Tried it once. Brilliant, but doesn’t suit how my brain works. But running a $19M ARR company that has a team of 130+ work across 13 timezones (California to Mumbai) means there’s a lot of admin. I was wasting hours every morning digging through messages, call notes, task lists to figure out what was urgent. Having ADHD means that I could easily lose hours to context switching. I have to start my day with meditation and a clear to do list. Now I have an AI Chief of Staff to take care of that list. It runs every day and creates a briefing for me with: - Urgent team flags requiring my attention - Action points from recent calls - Briefs for meetings on my schedule It’s smart. It pulls the context I need from my schedule and meeting notes and acts like a very smart assistant, it’s not just an automated list task. This used to need an hour of my time. Now it’s five minutes while I have a matcha. I’ve broken down the exact structure and how I built this in this month’s newsletter. Founders - steal it. Build your own version. Link in the comments 🙏

Roei Samuel شارك ذلكIt’s my birthday next month. Planning how to celebrate. Whatever it ends up being, it will be alcohol free. Birthdays are strange. There’s a lot of pressure to get huge groups of people together. Usually a big hangover the next day. It’s my first alcohol free birthday since I was a kid. But I'm not apprehensive in the slightest. So far this year I have: Been to a festival Been on a team trip Best friends’ weddings Raves …all alcohol free. For those who are curious about cutting out alcohol but don’t know how they’ll handle social events - guess what, socialising without alcohol develops your social muscle, because you’re no longer using a crutch. Would love to hear about your sober social experiences 🙏

Roei Samuel شارك ذلكThe two biggest unlocks for me as a founder: 1. Working weekends 2. Working on my mental health There was a time I wouldn’t have shared that. It’s easy to miss nuance online. We assume anyone working weekends automatically means having no work life balance. There was a time that was true for me. Working 24/7. No boundaries. Exhausted. But investing in my mental health after I sold my first company gave me perspective. I learned how to better support the team. I learned where I have weaknesses. I learned about how I operate best. And interestingly I discovered that if I followed every rulebook and avoided thinking about work on the weekends, I would struggle. It’s not how I’m wired. The people I’m most proud to work with think similarly. It’s not that everyone has to work weekends or go to therapy (I do recommend the latter). It’s understanding how you work best. So you can better support the people around you.

Roei Samuel شارك ذلكBecoming a founder doesn’t ‘fix’ your ADHD. It can work against you if you let it. You HAVE to work out how your brain needs to operate. I would never want to be in a traditional 9-5. It wouldn’t suit me. Running a business is the only thing I can imagine. There are still challenges: I jump between tasks I can’t sit still for hours But as an ADHD founder you have: Pattern recognition High energy Massive drive Excitement to problem solve Running a business doesn’t ‘fix’ ADHD. It does give you an outlet for creativity and energy.

Roei Samuel شارك ذلكThis is insane. Over 2.5 million in the UK have ADHD. Around 270,000 of those are kids. When I was diagnosed at 14, we never talked about it publicly. It wasn’t something you discussed. Maybe you got lucky with a support network. Right now, they’re stuck on waiting lists to get basic help: Quiet spaces at school Structured support at school Extra time in relevant exams It shouldn’t be this hard. By the time some of these kids are able to get a diagnosis, they will have already had to struggle through years of school without support. It’s not “over diagnosis”. Diagnosis has always been somewhat irrelevant. Especially as an adult, you’re able to establish whether you operate differently and start adapting accordingly. But you need an official diagnosis to access support. Kids deserve to have that from us.

Roei Samuel شارك ذلكWe took 60 people to Malta last month. Team members from all over the world flew in for our Connectd off-site. We’ve been doing this for four years now. Year 1: Lisbon (15-20 people) Huge risk. Definitely couldn't afford it. Worth it. Year 2: Madrid (25-30 people) Feedback and relationships built in Lisbon meant we had to do this. Became a core tenant of our culture. Year 3: Split (35-40 people) Team had grown. First year we couldn’t take everyone with us. Built out year-long sales incentive programmes to earn a spot. Year 4: Malta (50-60 people) !! Biggest trio yet. Focused on a values-driven incentive programme. Teams voted on the winners. Was a balanced group with huge diversity across business. Can’t believe how much this has grown. Ironically this is the first business I’ve founded solo but it never feels like I’m doing it alone. I have the team working solidly alongside me. Proud to work with such brilliant people. Jim Dixon where are we going next year?

Roei Samuel شارك ذلكI was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 14. But it took me 10+ years to understand how to work with it. I’ve been on a long journey: Medicated from 14 Started self-medicating age 15 Built a business age 22 Sold the business age 26 Depressed. Drinking. Lacking purpose. Discovered meditation age 26 Found purpose age 28 Created structure. Built a routine. Stopped drinking alcohol and coffee age 34. Biggest unlocks I’ve found yet. Most successful founders I know have ADHD. But importantly - they know how to work with it to support themselves and none of them see themselves as victims. Finding what works for YOU is essential.

Roei Samuel شارك ذلكWe’re hiring in the US ! Startup Acquisition Manager (USA) 🇺🇸 Connectd has grown from zero to $19M ARR and raised $24M in funding. We're one of the fastest growing companies in Europe (18th fastest in the UK) and built a network of thousands of founders and fractional leaders who are actively changing outcomes for each other. Now we’re investing even more in growing in the USA. This would suit someone who is deeply embedded in the startup world in Austin and the wider US. Loves people building businesses. Obsessed with networking. This is a unique role. We have a huge number of people on our platform who are brilliant at solving problems. They have already done it in bigger, more established brands. They are our fractionals. Working ‘fractionally’ across businesses to solve their problems without needing to work in the business 24/7. This role will exist to help us connect more of our fractionals to the businesses that need their expertise in the US. We have some benefits I’m particularly proud of: - Private medical insurance - Annual company trips to Europe (!!) - Flexible working - Work from anywhere scheme - Company share scheme If this is a fit for you or someone you know, link is below!

Roei Samuel تفاعل مع ذلكRoei Samuel تفاعل مع ذلكDay two from my hospital bed Yesterday morning I got chatting to the lady in the bed , and we ended up talking about something I think more people need to know about. It's called Martha's Rule. If you're in hospital, or someone you love is, and you're worried they're getting worse and you don't feel you're being listened to, you can ask for an urgent review from a separate critical care team. Not the same team. A fresh pair of eyes. It's named after Martha Mills, who was 13 when she died of sepsis in 2021. Her family raised concerns that weren't acted on. Her parents have spent the last five years making sure other families have a way to be heard. This week the NHS announced it's being rolled out to every A&E in England too. It's not in every hospital yet. Look for the posters on the ward, check the trust's website, or just ask a nurse. Most people I've told have never heard of it. So please share this. You never know who'll need it.

Roei Samuel تفاعل مع ذلكRoei Samuel تفاعل مع ذلكI'm writing this from a hospital bed. I came in this morning for day surgery. I'm not going home tonight. Not what I planned but thats okay Over the last five years my health has hit me harder than I ever imagined both physically and mentally. There was a time my whole life ran in four-hour blocks, too much pain to walk around for long periods, watching the clock until I could take my next meds. Then came spinal surgery. I got lucky, I can walk again. I get to enjoy my life on my own two feet, and I don't take a single step of it for granted. Im not pain free but i can walk now. I'm past the clock watching now. But lying here tonight, a lot of those memories have come back. Every health setback has changed how I see life. It taught me that health comes before everything, and that anything can happen, at any time. So this year I've been saying yes. Yes to travel. Yes to eating better. Yes to life. Tonight isn't a step back. It's a reality check. If you're going through something right now, a diagnosis, a long recovery, pain nobody else can see, or you just don't believe you can get through it: you can. I didn't always believe it either. Sometimes all it takes is a little self-belief to get you to the next step. Be kind to yourself. And say yes where you can.

Roei Samuel تفاعل مع ذلكRoei Samuel تفاعل مع ذلكI can finally shout from the rooftops! I've been announced as a LinkedIn Top Voice... I have read that sentence back about nine times now and it still makes me grin. When I started writing about disability inclusion, I had no idea whether anyone would read it. It is not the easiest subject to put in front of a business audience. It does not always come with quick wins or comfortable answers. I was fully prepared to be talking to myself. That is not what happened. You showed up, read, disagreed, sent posts to colleagues, and messaged me about the thing you were stuck on and didn't want to ask about publicly. Some of you have changed something real in your own workplaces because of a conversation that started in a comment section. I hear about it most weeks, and it has never once got old. Disability inclusion has another Top Voice now. Not a charity appeal or niche. A recognised business voice, sitting in the same list as people writing about leadership, finance, technology and the future of work. That is exactly where this conversation belongs, and it is where I have been trying to move it for years. Having the platform agree feels brilliant. Thank you to everyone who has read a post, left a comment, shared something with their team, or invited me into a room to say it out loud. Thank you to the clients who let me tell the truth about their buildings. And thank you to the people who message me privately, usually a little nervously, to ask how to get something right. Those messages are my favourite part of all of this. Congratulations to everyone else recognised alongside me. Omar Ali CBE, Nighat Arif, Hattie Brett, Farah Ahmed, Mai Fenton, Shilpika (Shilps) Gautam, Jodie Hill, Rudi Kesic, Steve Lister. Every one of you has earned it, and I am looking forward to following all of you.

Dogooders and accelerators staffed by professional delivery people who have never founded or operated startups are dangerous. I've just come off the phone from a founder who was advised to raise £xm by the mentors on an accelerator. These are people who sell themselves as knowledgeable in this space but are anything but. Th problem is the only needed 25% of the amount they advised (including buffer). If he raises this amount at this stage, he'll likely have to give away a third of his business. Which is far far too much far far too early. A little knowledge is a very dangerous thing indeed.

At Prequel Ventures, we are excited to see our portfolio company Resourcly thriving and raising € 2.7M in seed funding led by Project A. Helena, Ian and the Resourcly team are redefining efficiency in manufacturing supply chains. Millions in long-tail inventory are trapped across factories and Resourcly’s platform turns that waste into working capital. By harmonizing fragmented data and suggesting qualified part alternatives, Resourcly unlocks availability, transparency, and measurable financial impact for global manufacturers. Their agent-based AI seamlessly connects engineering and procurement, driving circularity, resilience, and operational excellence - already proving up to 15% working capital improvement and 20% revenue uplift potential. As backers since their pre-seed round, we're proud of what Helena and Ian have already achieved and excited for everything that's ahead. Onwards and upwards!

Behind the scenes this week, I caught myself doing something I tell founders not to do. Jumping in. Replying to things that didn’t really need me. Approving bits that were already clear. Not because anything was broken. Just because I’m used to being involved. And that’s how it creeps back in. So I made a few small tweaks: – Clarified who owns a recurring task – Added one simple automated reminder – Removed an approval that wasn’t necessary Nothing big. But it felt lighter almost immediately. That’s what happens when you 𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 instead of tightening your grip. If you’re curious where you might still be jumping in more than you need to, the 𝘽𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙢 𝙎𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙙 gives you a clear snapshot. Take it here: bit.ly/43xH7eI And if you want to go deeper into how to automate properly (without overcomplicating everything), my latest blog “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘎𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘈𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴”, breaks it down step by step: https://lnkd.in/gHum8HCu #BehindTheScenes #SmartAutomation #EntrepreneurLife #WorkSmarterNotHarder #BusinessFreedom #SystemsThatWork

Nexa • ١٨ ألف متابع
Nexa has been live for eight months. We're now running live searches in London, New York and Riyadh. Three continents. That feels slightly ridiculous when I look at what we've actually built the company with. Some of our competitors have raised serious amounts of venture capital. Nexa hasn't. It's basically been me, Wasil Ahmed , Muhammad Haseeb in Lahore and some exceptional folks operating as part/time consultants No enormous engineering team. No huge sales team. No millions spent building the product before finding out whether anyone actually wants it. We started selling in January. Since then we've worked with companies including BeyondMath, Novee, XPFlow and now a stealth mode AI infrastructure startup in Saudi Arabia. We've sourced hundreds of candidates, screened hundreds more using AI and helped companies make hires across some genuinely difficult engineering and AI searches. And we're now approaching $250,000 in revenue generated/contracted since launching. I'm proud of the number. But I'm probably more proud of how little it has taken to get there. My last company grew to 35 people. For a long time, headcount felt like progress. This time I'm learning the opposite lesson. AI gives a tiny team an extraordinary amount of leverage, but only if you resist the temptation to build an organisation around work the technology can already do. We're nowhere near where I want Nexa to be. There are still things held together with duct tape. There are product features I desperately want built. There are searches where we're learning in real time. And there is an enormous amount we still don't know. But eight months ago Nexa was an experiment. Today companies in New York, London and Riyadh are trusting us with real hires. This month we're starting conversations about raising our first seed round. Not to prove Nexa can work. I think the last eight months have started answering that question. The question now is what happens when we put some actual fuel behind it.

Getting to work with brilliant founders still in the "make or break" stage of their business is thrilling. We love supporting these founders and putting money back in their hands... It's also incredibly fun keeping tabs on great businesses like Google who are executing at massive scale. Really, a great business is a great business, whether you have $4M of revenue with great economics or $400B. Google's beat on earnings today is a reminder that good businesses create a flywheel where value creation begets value creation (at almost any scale). Take a look at these numbers if you want to see a cash-spewing flywheel in action: - The Google Cloud business is up 34% year-over-year to $15.2B with a $155B backlog locking in future revenue 🤯 - I don't know exactly how to interpret these numbers, but the Gemini models process 7B tokens per minute and already reach 650M "users" - This resulted in their first $100B quarter, ($35B in profit) all while plowing $90B this year into AI and data centers to keep the flywheel spinning It's remarkable how good the margins of these tech businesses can be even at mind-blowing scale. And at just around a 30 P/E ratio, the stock is still relatively cheap compared to Amazon Microsoft NVIDIA et al. 💲 #Google #GoogleEarnings
