Wes Rashid shared thisI gave a talk to 30+ founders at Xeinadin and NatWest’s startup funding event. It was a blast. I covered the UK funding landscape for startups. And for once, the event wasn’t in London! Would love to do more of these outside the capital. Huge thanks to Emily Victoria Light and Andrew Gaete for having me.

Wes Rashid shared thisI took my mum to see Jay-Z. She's 73. Booked the tickets at 3pm and went that evening. I was thinking, I'll try to get on top of work on the weekend. I had a busy week ahead. But I needed to get out of my head. So I took my mum to see Jay-Z and we had the best time. I’m not sure there’s a lesson in this. But if you get the chance to take your mum to see Jay-Z. Take it.

Wes Rashid shared thisAmazing evening at the UK Business Angels Association Awards. 300+ investors and founders celebrated the best of UK angel investing. Thank you to Jon Snade and Harry Pearson at Browne Jacobson for the invitation. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners.

Wes Rashid shared thisIt's an honour to be on the Advisory Board of the AccountingWEB.co.uk. And have input into The Finance, Accounting & Bookkeeping Show. Even better to be doing it alongside my colleague, Russell Frayne. The best way to approach these conversations is with honesty. I think that's exactly what we brought to the table. If it helps the profession, that's something I'm proud to be part of.

Wes Rashid shared this2 days at the Xeinadin Partner Conference 2026. I joined the stage in a client persona session. It was a fun way to explore how we can better understand and serve our clients. I think I had a few people convinced I was "Serial Starter Jack." A huge thank you to everyone who helped bring the event to life. The production, content and people were exceptional. Already looking forward to next year.

Wes Rashid shared thisFoundersX ended London Tech Week with a packed Reverse Investor Pitching event. 130 founders turned out despite the wet weather. I'll admit, I was a bit nervous. But we pulled it off! A huge thank you to the investors for pitching: Emilie Vallauri, Techstars Elitsa Angelova, Mouro Capital George Mensah, SVV (Sure Valley Ventures) Dama Sathianathan, Bethnal Green Ventures Will Orde, Passion Capital Edward Keelan, Octopus Ventures Fred Ursell, Pembroke VCT Thank you to HSBC Innovation Banking for the support and hospitality. And huge thanks to everyone who helped make the event run smoothly. Couldn't have done it without you. A special shout out to Alex Hazell and Devon Potter for believing in our community! ❤️

Wes Rashid shared thisParis 10k, checked off. We did it! Very proud of Asima Hafesji, she ran a PB. Doing something new is uncomfortable. But the pay off can be so rewarding. The voice in our heads never completely disappears. We just learn not to listen to it.
-
Wes Rashid shared this6 years ago, my company went through Techstars. We received pitch coaching. Thought it'd be cool to share this expertise with underrepresented founders. Fortunately, Mike Lane-Evans was up for it. And we pulled it off! A huge thanks to Asima Hafesji and Sophia Raja for supporting this. Nice to open up this kind of insight to more founders.

Wes Rashid shared this21k / 13.1 miles in 1:47. I ran my second half marathon, the Hackney Half. I got a PB. I have to admit, I’m proud of myself. Running doesn’t come naturally to me. It was consistency, pain, and an amazing crowd that got me through. Yes, there were moments I wanted to quit. But like most things in life, business and goals.. It’s about showing up, even when it hurts!

Wes Rashid reacted on thisWes Rashid reacted on thisNearly 10 years of Fast Growth Icons. Where did that go? We were chatting in the office ahead of this week’s event and realised members of the team have been involved with the network for almost a decade, across different organisations. That kind of staying power says a lot about what Uday Singh and 🎢 Ben Fletcher have built. And this week showed why we keep coming back: 100+ founders and CEOs from across the UK innovation ecosystem, swapping ideas, tackling shared challenges and making connections that might just turn into something useful. Always great to hear a true FinTech growth story with Philip Belamant of Zilch sharing such personal insights of his founder journey & that of Zilch. For me, networks like this are part of what makes the UK such a special place to build a business: ambitious founders in a room with people who genuinely want to help them succeed. Proud that HSBC Innovation Banking gets to be part of the conversation. Jim Simmons, Ben Kelso, Will Longhurst

Wes Rashid reacted on thisWes Rashid reacted on thisI think running a business gets lonelier the more successful it becomes Which sounds ridiculous when you're surrounded by more people than ever 😁 But the bigger the business gets, the fewer people you can actually talk to about ALL of it.... The money, the team, second guessing decisions, struggling with employees, hiring, selling or growing.. And we just want to sit with someone else who gets it and say... Is this normal?! 😂 This week Ami and I held our first Founder Season brunch! And THIS is exactly why we wanted to create it. A room full of founders, CEOs and MDs talking properly about business... Not just swapping business cards Not pretending everything is going brilliantly Actual conversations about what's working, what's difficult and what we're all trying to figure out And watching people connect who probably wouldn't have met otherwise felt so good! We want this to be a proper community of ambitious people building businesses who want good people around them while they do it And Wednesday was only the beginning 👀 We're now opening applications to join the Founder Season community. If you're a founder, CEO or MD and you're thinking this sounds like my kind of room... Apply through this link (takes 1 minute) 👇 https://lnkd.in/ex8gcNxP

Wes Rashid reacted on thisWes Rashid reacted on thisI’ve just completed the Fractional CFO Academy with Connectd — a programme that sharpened how I support founders who need clarity, commercial discipline and investor‑ready financial leadership. It’s helped me build a clearer framework for how I help founder‑led businesses achieve confident, profitable growth. My focus: • Financial clarity when things feel complex • Stronger commercial performance — pricing, margins, unit economics • Forecasts founders can trust • Genuine investor‑readiness The academy reinforced something I’ve seen throughout my career: founders don’t just need numbers — they need a partner who listens, understands, and helps them navigate growth without surprises. With 25+ years of enterprise‑grade finance leadership and current hands‑on experience supporting early‑stage businesses preparing for fundraising, I’m excited to keep helping founders build the clarity, control and confidence they need to scale. Certificate below — but the real value was sharpening how I deliver impact. If you’re a founder navigating growth or preparing for investment, always happy to talk.Certificate issued to Alex Sturge by Connectd. The day was expertly hosted (as always!) by our wonderful Marketing Director, Alexander Mark Deakin-Mckay. A few personal highlights included: The “Being Xeinadin” panel with Alex Kossoff and Wes Rashid, sharing real life examples of the power of collaboration. An engaging update from our IT Director, Georgina Barber on the opportunities that lie ahead across AI and technology. Double act of the day Donovan Crutchfield and Lee Manning delivering a lighthearted look at what’s happening across our London offices. A huge thank you to Eiza Fabello and the entire team for organising and making the day a success, it was a pleasure to be part of it! 👏

Wes Rashid reacted on thisWes Rashid reacted on thisRan the first ever Saucony Shoreditch Half Marathon yesterday. Went into it with a dodgy ankle and genuinely wasn't sure I'd finish, let alone get near a time I'd be happy with. Spent most of the week before deciding whether to even start. Came in at 1:47. No idea where that came from given the week I'd had, but I'll take it. Great weekend with Emilio Vences, as always. It helps having someone to push and challenge each other with on these things. Good to have goals that have nothing to do with the business every now and then. We'll be back next year. Ankle allowing.

International tax is where the penalty risk can feel disproportionate. In US-UK cross-border structures, missing or mishandling international forms can trigger severe penalties even when little tax is due. That is why founders feel anxious, you can do everything “commercially right” and still suffer large penalties for missing an international information return sometimes with starting penalties at $25,000. This is where a regular domestic US or UK only tax advisor is rarely enough for the Trans-Atlantic business group. The core skill is mapping the international reporting footprint early, identifying area of risk adn penalty exposure, then keeping the US and UK filings consistent year after year. That joined-up advice and support is what switched on founders seek to manage cross-border risk. HMRC MTD quarterly submissions. The mechanical bit takes 2 minutes per client. The client conversation takes an hour. Automate the wrong one and you cost yourself the relationship. Here is the shape I would build for a bookkeeping practice with 30 MTD clients. The mechanical bit. Xero pushes the VAT numbers to HMRC via the API. Zero human touch. Already automated by Xero itself. The client bit. Every quarter the client wants a plain-English note. "Here is what your VAT return says. Here is what changed since last quarter. Here is the amount to pay and when. Anything you want to talk about?" The workflow. An n8n job runs on the day the VAT return is filed. Pulls the VAT return values from Xero. Reads the last 4 quarters' returns for context. Sends all of it to Claude with a house-style prompt: "Draft a client-friendly summary in under 200 words. Name the amount, the deadline, the biggest change from last quarter, one action for the client. Sign off with the practice partner's name." The draft threads into the practice's Gmail with the client's name and a subject line. Practice partner reviews 30 drafts on the filing day, edits the 3 that need a personal touch, sends the rest with a signature. The client gets the note within an hour of filing. Not on Friday afternoon a week later. The practice's advisory conversation becomes the reply thread rather than a separate call. Automation frees the partner for the conversation, not from the conversation. DM me "mtd" for the summary prompt.

Question 5 of 30 questions clients have recently asked the Kinore team ‘Does Xero produce a SEPA file for bulk supplier payment?’ Xero remains one of our favourite recommendations for client software – it is easy to use, easy to integrate and easy to scale as the business grows. In Ireland – we use the Global version of Xero – there is not a specific country version like there is for the UK, New Zealand or Australia.😒 This means that for things that are specific to Ireland – VAT filing for example, we have to find an alternative solution. While the VAT issue is well known, a question we have had a lot recently is whether Xero produces a SEPA file for bulk supplier payments. While Xero globally advertises SEPA payment support – the edition we use in Ireland does not produce a SEPA file for bulk supplier payments – it will only generate a CSV file. That means you can’t currently send multiple supplier payments directly from Xero via SEPA in Ireland. Our usual recommendation to businesses that rely on Xero for account management especially if bulk SEPA payments are important, consider integrating with alternative solutions like Modular or Parolla - Online Cloud Based Payroll Software , which can create SEPA-compliant files ready for payment. Kinore, Finance & Business Services have been awarded Xero partner of the year for the last 5 years - if you have any questions or concerns on Xero or any other accounting software – let us know - we are happy to help.

MTD for Income Tax is coming — is your bookkeeping still a messy spreadsheet + wallet combo or actually digital-ready? 🧾🔗 Quick checklist for anyone with crypto on their radar: - Move records into MTD‑compatible software (spreadsheets won’t cut it forever) - Ensure true digital links between apps (no copy‑paste bridges) - Log timestamps, fiat values, fees and wallet addresses for each event - Plan for more frequent reporting cadence — quarterly vibes, not annual surprises Crypto note: HODLers, DeFi users and NFT traders — your on‑chain chaos needs an off‑chain paper trail. Missing digital links or incomplete records = headaches come filing time (not legal advice). How messy is your current setup — “neat ledger” or “crypto spaghetti bowl”? Drop a GIF or tell us your biggest recordkeeping pain for the community to roast/advise. Need a fast way out? Get a crypto tax‑ready report in 48hrs at taxanon.co.uk — no promises, just a practical starting point.

MTD isn’t the scary part. Want to know what is? Our community is full of questions about the quarterly submission process. And I know that the transition to MTD can feel daunting for your sole trader clients and for your practice. The real risk isn’t the new regulation itself. It’s the businesses that have been winging it for years and are now looking for a “workaround” instead of fixing their bookkeeping. It’s the messy records that will cause the issues – not the quarterly submissions. I’ve seen how the submissions work in Xero, and that part is straightforward. The real challenge is hitting submit when the books are three months behind, receipts are missing, and you’re still trying to work out what “CARD PAYMENT” from April was for. MTD will put deadlines around problems that have always been there. If you’re a bookkeeper and you want to make this manageable for your clients, start by tightening up the workflow: ✅ Define the new process – you lead this, not your clients ✅ Choose one way to receive receipts (and stick to it) ✅ Set cut-off dates and enforce those boundaries ✅ Stop accepting information across multiple channels This is exactly the practical workflow we will cover in MTD Made Practical with Xero, a three-part webinar series which starts on 24th March, so you feel confident with both the quarterly and year-end process – and your clients do too. The businesses most at risk are the ones that have been “winging it” for years and now want a workaround instead of fixing their bookkeeping. It’s the messy records that will cause the problems here, not the quarterly submissions.

MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment is a major shift for sole traders, especially if you are already VAT registered. From April 2026, turnover above £50,000 means digital records and quarterly submissions to HMRC become mandatory. VAT itself is not changing, but your bookkeeping discipline must tighten. Your income, expenses, and VAT data must all align through digitally linked systems. Software like Xero helps keep everything consistent and compliant. We often see issues arise when VAT and income records are managed separately. Getting structured early avoids last-minute pressure and costly errors. #MTDforITSA #VATRegistered #DigitalTaxUK

📘 New resource for UK accounting & bookkeeping firms We’ve partnered with FuseSign and a group of leading accounting apps to contribute to the 2026 ‘No-AI-Hype’ Accounting Tech Stack Blueprint (UK Edition). This guide is designed to help firms: ✔ Identify common workflow leaks ✔ Understand how key systems should connect ✔ See real examples of integrated, automated workflows ✔ Prioritise what to standardise first (and what can wait) The focus isn’t on adding more software. It’s on making the tools firms already use work better together. If your team is spending too much time on manual admin, chasing, or workarounds, this guide will help you spot where to start.
