George Bliss shared this🏃♀️🌍 Exciting Update! I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be running the Paris Marathon in April, partnering up with my employer Mace and raising money for the #MaceFoundation. Throughout the year Mace run fundraisers that unite our global colleagues behind a common purpose – to raise funds for the Mace Foundation in a fun, supportive and collaborative way. And the rest of the time, we’re giving that money directly back – our people love being able to request match-funding support for their own fundraisers and using our grant-giving programme to support initiatives in their local community. My family up north got the full cinematic experience, didn't leave much to the imagination on prime time news, but hey, at least I had decent lighting.... All jokes aside, it was genuinely a pleasure Sauna & Plunge managed to be part of the Channel 4 News report on the new guidance this week. The conversation highlighted something we've been thinking a lot about: these policies often put the onus on venues like ours to make difficult calls, rather than providing the clarity businesses actually need. Our answer? We're not trying to police anything. Instead, we're designing solutions, flexible facilities, inclusive sessions, alternatives, that make everyone feel genuinely welcome, and above all SAFE. George Bliss liked thisGeorge Bliss liked thisSomething close to home, literally. You may have seen the news, coverage of the fires across the West Midlands. I live less than a kilometre away from one of the affected areas and walk past it most days. Yesterday, whilst on calls, I could smell the smoke before I saw it. The scale of the devastation is difficult to put into words. Fields and homes have been destroyed or damaged, and countless possessions lost. Thankfully, at this point, no lives have been lost though we do have some injuries. What has stood out most, however, is the response from the local community. Local social media has been full of people offering support, donating supplies and volunteering their time. Stourbridge Town Hall opened its doors to those who have been displaced, and my daughter's school offered up to 400 beds to support evacuees, including care home residents. With the school currently operating on reduced summer holiday staffing and supplies, there is a real need for practical help. This morning, before coffee or work, I headed to a local supermarket and purchased several bags of essentials including cereal, milk, dried food and fruit, which I delivered to the school. I have interview commitments this afternoon, but once those are finished, I'll be heading over to volunteer and help however I can. We often talk about social value in terms of programmes, initiatives and measurable outcomes. Moments like this remind me that social value can also be much simpler: neighbours helping neighbours, organisations opening their doors, and communities coming together when people need them most. images credit: Stourbridge News, WMFS #socialvalue #stourbridge

George Bliss reacted on thisGeorge Bliss reacted on thisDocumentation is one of those jobs nobody enjoys… but everyone (should) ends up doing. Here’s a write-up on a problem we solved recently. On one of our projects, documentation could quite easily eat up 1–3 days every reporting cycle. Not because it was hard — just repetitive, necessary, and hard to avoid. So instead of accepting it, we're automating it. I built a simple agent-driven flow that takes DAX measures, interprets them, and writes structured, business-readable documentation automatically. Nothing over the top — just a practical solution focused on: - Improving team efficiency - Reducing repeat effort - Keeping documentation consistent and governed - Making reporting easier to explain and trust The outcome was immediate — but the bigger shift was removing the dependency on developers to constantly explain the same logic. Following the sale of a majority stake in Mace Consult to Goldman Sachs, the business is rebranding, relocating its London HQ and sharpening its focus as a standalone UK contractor. Executive chairman @Mark Reynolds has outlined a clear strategic direction: targeting growth in defence, data centres and rai - with a projected turnover of £2.6bn by 2028. A new name is expected by the end of 2026. George Bliss liked thisGeorge Bliss liked thisSome days are just fun. Yesterday I was spent time with a stakeholder, walking through their requirements for a report redesign. They’d already mocked something up using AI wireframes and honestly, this was useful for me. Given how close they are to the data, and their understanding of what needs to be shown – it helped keep the meeting short and focussed. This isn’t a case where AI will replace me, it’s helping me. Though I still have Sarah Connor’s on speed dial. Then came the build. I thought that whilst there were some less… practical approaches to meeting their requirement (I could have ‘fudged it’ with layers of visuals and overlapping data) it ultimately didn’t do it justice. So I looked at using #Deneb – I admit I’m not as clued up at Deneb as I should be, so struggled. But logic allowed me to swivel to HTML. So, some coffee and sketching later (Pen, paper, boxes, percentages… nothing fancy) – we had a working idea. The finished visual you can see here is driven by a surprisingly small HTML structure. It’s not complicated – it’s over-engineered. Just clean markup being dynamically generated from within the Power BI report itself. Inline CSS (or an attached style sheet depending on the HTML visual you choose – mine is HTML Content by Daniel Marsh-Patrick) handles the styling. DAX handles the data and HTML brings it all together. The result has more clout than the stacked bar chart ever could. For me, this was a bit of a full circle moment. I originally picked up HTML and web design at university, alongside my degree — building full web pages, animations, layouts… and now, seeing those same fundamentals applied inside Power BI, but powered by data, is genuinely exciting. I’ve used HTML before for animated homepages and a few exploratory data visuals, but this feels like stepping it up a level. There’s a lot more depth to this than people realise — and I’ll definitely be doing a deeper dive into it soon. #PowerBI #DataVisualisation #DataViz #BusinessIntelligence #DAX #HTML #CustomVisuals #ReportDesign #DigitalTransformation #Analytics
