Heavy-duty fleet electrification won’t be won by technology alone. It has to work commercially. It has to work operationally. And it has to last.   That was the clear message from the Castrol ON customer roundtable at #IAATransportation What stood out: ⏳ Longevity is now a design requirement. Yutong Bus & Coach, a major Chinese commercial vehicles manufacturer, highlighted that their electric drive systems are built for high efficiency and up to 20 years of life - a powerful reminder that ROI depends on durability, not just range. 📈 Small efficiency gains can shift the economics. One extra percentage point of e-axle efficiency could add around 7 km of range to a long-haul truck. 🌍 There is no copy-paste model. China’s more than 90% new electric trucks share is impressive, but Europe needs solutions that fit its infrastructure, energy costs and market conditions. 🔋 Battery chemistry is also a supply-chain question. Scalability, sourcing and resilience will help determine which technologies win.  🌡️ Thermal management is moving centre stage. As charging heads towards 1.5 MW, heat management becomes mission-critical - and immersion cooling moves closer to necessity. The big takeaway: electrification is a system challenge. The winners will optimise energy, fluids, heat, infrastructure, durability and the business model - together.
