Our 2026 Pride in the Job celebrations continue with recognition of Mark Butler, Site Manager for our Banbury Rise development in Oxfordshire, who was awarded a prestigious Seal of Excellence at the NHBC Pride in the Job Central Region awards last Friday. Earlier this year, thousands of inspections with meticulous scoring and detailed verifications took place by NHBC to determine 450 Quality Award winners across the country, announced in June. All 450 Quality award recipients are now competing at the NHBC’s regional awards rounds this autumn; Mark is one of just thirteen recipients of the sought-after Seal of Excellence Award in the NHBC’s Central region. I had a fantastic day at our annual Sales and marketing Conference yesterday! It was lovely catching up with everyone from the other regions and having the chance to celebrate all the hard work and achievements from the last year. I was also very grateful and incredibly proud to receive the Sales Manager of the Year award A massive thank you to my team and everyone I work with for all the support, hard work and laughs along the way. Our South Midlands region has made a £1000 donation to Aylesbury-based charity, Youth Concern, which will help it meet a £15,000 match funding target as part of an initiative set by the McFarlane Family Foundation. It has pledged £15,000 to Youth Concern, on the condition that it first raises a matching £15,000 from organisations that have never previously supported them.   Bloor Homes, which has just launched the new Weston Mead Grange development in Aylesbury, is one of the new supporters helping to unlock the £30,000 total of vital support for some of Buckinghamshire's most vulnerable young people.   Youth homelessness in Aylesbury Vale is 22% higher than the national average; Youth Concern works directly with young people facing these challenges, alongside poor mental health and other pressures that can leave them feeling lost and without support.    Karyn Taylor, Fundraising Officer at Youth Concern, said: “The MacFarlane Family Foundation's pledge is a genuinely life-changing opportunity for the young people we support, and we can only unlock this incredible opportunity with the support of more caring, generous local businesses like Bloor Homes, whose kindness is already helping us get closer to our goal.”   Carl Slater, Regional Managing Director for the South Midlands, said: “We are always keen to support the communities in which we build, but when we heard about this challenge we wanted to help. Darren Bowles, a sales adviser for our South Mids region, has completed a gruelling solo challenge successfully completing seven full marathons on seven consecutive days, to help fund vital cancer treatment for a fellow gym-goer named Max.   Darren (39), who is a father of two, was inspired to set up a fundraiser after seeing Max's courage and determination at close quarters and wanting to make a practical difference. The demanding personal endurance challenge has raised more than £3,650 for the fundraiser. Starting at 7am from The Mill gym in Buckingham, Darren ran repeated one-kilometre loops of Bourton Park, completing the full marathon distance of 26.2 miles (42.2km) each day, for seven days straight. In total, Darren covered more than 295 kilometres on foot over the course of one week. The challenge, which is a recognised ultra-endurance format popularised by events such as the World Marathon Challenge, places extraordinary demands on the body. Running consecutive marathons allows no true recovery time between efforts, meaning muscle fatigue, soreness and mental strain accumulate with each passing day. Completing the challenge solo, without a support crew or pacers, made Darren's achievement all the more remarkable. Darren said: “Max is one of the most positive, determined people I've ever met. I wanted to do something that matched the scale of what he's facing – something that pushed me to my absolute limits. Seven marathons in seven days was hard, but every step was worth it. The support from people who have donated has been incredible, and every penny will go towards Max’s treatment.” Carl Slater, Regional Managing Director for the region, said: “Darren’s achievement has been extraordinary, both as a physical feat and as a demonstration of his character, especially when you see what he was running for. It only takes one moment to remind you just how important our emergency services are. After a local child at Weston Road Academy in Stafford needed the support of the Midlands Air Ambulance following an incident on sports day, the team at our Hutchison Gate development decided they wanted to give something back. Led by Senior Site Manager Nick Schofield and organised by our Painter Supervisor, whose wife works at the school, colleagues from across our local sites got behind a fundraising raffle in support of the charity. The winning prize, which was a wheelbarrow filled with goodies, went to Craig Healey, while the real winner was Midlands Air Ambulance. Hutchison Gate alone raised an impressive £320, the highest total of all the sites that took part. A huge thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, donated and supported such an incredible service. We hope the funds raised will help ensure Midlands Air Ambulance can continue to be there for families across the region when they need it most.

We're proud to announce that four brilliant local organisations in Mickleover have each received a £250 donation from our Cromwell Orchard Community Fund at Mickleover, run by our Midlands region. Here's where the money is going: 🥫 Mickleover Community Pavilion Association - funding essential groceries, hygiene packs and pet food for the Mickleover Community Pantry, which supports between 45 and 50 local people in need every month. 🏃 Mickleover Running Club - helping this fantastic volunteer-run club of 150+ members celebrate its 10th anniversary in style, with new banners and flags to attract even more runners to their inclusive programme. 🌱 Ravensdale Junior School - completing a new garden space where pupils can grow plants, build confidence, and enjoy a calm and peaceful outdoor environment. ☕ St John's Church - spreading the word about 'Rest Stop', their wonderful drop-in community café that has been bringing local people together every Friday morning since 2021. As our Sales Director Angie Prince puts it: "Rather than make one donation to a single organisation, we wanted to share our community fund across four charities and community groups doing fantastic work in Mickleover. We're really proud to support them all." Our North West team has donated a brand new Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to its next door neighbour at Beefold Meadows - Atherton Collieries Juniors FC. The life-saving equipment was donated to the Club just as the team completed and sold the last of the new homes at the popular development. The donation reflects our longstanding commitment to supporting grassroots sport and local communities across the country. Martyn Daley, Vice Chairman (Club Development) for Atherton Collieries Juniors FC, said: “On behalf of everyone at Atherton Collieries Juniors FC, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Bloor Homes for their generous donation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for our Bee Fold site. We are absolutely delighted to share that two of our first-year bricklaying apprentices in our Midlands region are through to the National Final of the SkillBuild competition. Tom Hughes and Nathan Gamble recently competed at the Dudley regional SkillBuild bricklaying qualifying event at Dudley Construction Centre. Not only did both apprentices perform brilliantly with Tom taking first place and Nathan taking second place in the regional Qualifier, their scores were so high they were placed in the top eight in the country. This means they will now compete against each other and as well as six other bricklayers in the National Final at the Arena MK in Milton Keynes on 17-19 November 2026. Lee Merry, Apprentice Master for our Midland’s region, said: “There are twelve SkillBuild regional qualifying competitions each year but only the top scoring eight competitors across the country go through to the National Final. “To have both Tom and Nathan going through in their first year of training is testament to their hard work and commitment – we are very proud of them both. It is also a reflection of the investment Bloor Homes makes in the on-site training of its new apprentices, and to our partnership with North Warwickshire & South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) which provides the important off-site learning. We wish Tom and Nathan the very best of luck for the Final.” Keith Binns, Bricklaying Lecturer at NWSLC said: “As first year bricklaying apprentices, both Tom and Nathan have more than excelled. Reaching this stage of the competition against competitors from 12 regional heats is nothing short of outstanding. It is also a reminder of what can be achieved through hard work, a willingness to learn, a commitment to training, and a solid foundation of support from Bloor Homes for its apprentices combined with the first-class apprenticeship training we offer at NWSLC.” Bloor Homes’ has invested in its apprenticeships in Bricklaying and Carpentry to create a learning environment where apprentices learn and train together on site under the guidance of a dedicated apprentice master, with off-site training partner colleges, such as NWSLC. This approach encourages apprentices at different levels to support and guide others coming through, whilst newcomers benefit from their experience. Run by Go Construct, the SkillBuild National Final brings together the top eight scorers from each trade discipline at this year's Regional Qualifiers – from bricklaying and carpentry to plastering, stonemasonry and wall and floor tiling. Over three days, the finalists will complete a set task in their trade, judged to the highest standard, to determine the best construction trainee in the UK in each discipline.
