Staff not interested in complaints

Went for breakfast a few weeks ago and had the cooked breakfast, I asked for no potatoes as they had herbs on them and I don't like them. When my breakfast arrived I found to my dismay that the beans had herbs on them I could taste them as soon as I put a piece of bacon in my mouth as the juice from the beans had spread to everything. The soda bread toast was cut that thick and was so hard you couldn't bite into it. I mentioned all the problems to a staff member and asked to see the manager, who never materialised. I left feeling very disappointed. I definitely won't be going back. It's very expensive as well.

Allergy indifference.

We are a retired couple who went to this local venue to support a new venture. My wife walked across to ask the waiter some questions about the menu as she has some food allergies/intolerances. When she asked about a meal with a gluten free option she was told this was a mistake in the printing. She then said she would just have a sandwich she was told there was no gluten free option. She was given no assistance to find any item on the menu that she could eat. Needless to say, we left and had our lunch elsewhere. Although she fully accepts that her food intolerances are something that can make it difficult to find a suitable item on a menu, the menu actually states to speak to a member of staff about concerns - this proved to be a completely unhelpful. It is not acceptable to continue to hand out menus with known errors regarding something that is a common food allergy and can have a serious consequence for those with certain conditions. Happily Beeston has plenty of other great places to eat where the staff are more than willing to help.

Never again

Decided to visit for the first time on Saturday. It was lovely weather and after buying our first round of drinks we sat in the outside seating area.

We'd been there quite a while and had spent a good deal of money when my Husband and Son went to get another round of drinks - this was approximately 7.45pm.

Out of nowhere the bald fella on the door stepped in front of our son stopping him in his tracks (we thought he was going to check his ID at first) but instead he barked at him "you either go over the road to Tesco to buy different shorts or some jeans or you go home" then turning to the Husband and saying "but you're ok". We had no idea what he was going on about. He never explained why different clothing was apparently required or what the issue was, his only concern it seemed was barking his instructions. He was so confrontational in his approach - his behaviour and attitude was simply baffling. We later found out from other customers that apparently the type of shorts our son was wearing was not suitable attire (jersey material).

We should point out that at no point had we been made aware of a "dress code" or that this applied after a certain time (apparently 8pm) had we of known we would have chosen to leave earlier and taken our custom to venues who don't speak to their customers like crap. Regardless of the reasons or apparent dress code, this bloke on the door was unnecessarily rude it was almost as if he was spoiling for an argument or some sort of reaction, very unprofessional. Not sure if the "man" in question was still a little hyped from the earlier altercation he had with two men who were asked to leave, another situation that escalated very quickly and was very unpleasant to watch - regardless, and what ever the reason he chose to handle the situation so confrontationally, it soured our view and we left taking our custom elsewhere - we certainly won't be returning.

If you are reading this and you are the manager of this establishment - we chose to come to your venue to support a new local business however, after this experience and watching how the other incident was handled we will never return again. I would recommend reviewing who you have minding the entrance and checking how they speak to and treat paying customers. A customers impressions are formed very quickly and having an interaction with someone on the door who is rude and confrontational from the outset is not the way to attract or retain customers. Reputation is everything and its worth bearing in mind that a reputation has to be built before it can be protected.

Oh and if you are so concerned about dress code perhaps you should give your door staff some pointers - when in the world of "haute couture" have combat trousers and a basketball vest tops or sliders and white socks ever been considered dressy - these were apparently ok as we saw many dressed this way that were allowed to enjoy their evening with no issues.
