Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 161 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently experienced unexpected extra charges, aggressively pushed insurance policies, and confusing fees upon picking up their rented vehicles. Many people also experienced frustratingly long wait times at the desk, vehicle availability problems, and unexpected post-rental damage claims charged directly to their personal accounts. Some reviewers were happy with friendly staff members who provided helpful assistance and smooth vehicle pickups at specific alternative locations. Other consumers noted that certain local branches successfully offered efficient service, polite employees, and clean cars without encountering any major issues during their holiday trips.

Booked Keddy via Ryanair

Booked Keddy via Ryanair, turns out to be Europcar
Got to the off airport site
And was met by a massive queue and only 3 staff meme ers serving (despite having 15 counter spaces)
I had to wait an hour to get served
What a joke
After waiting an hour I was then told I was now in the queue to wait for the keys???
I ask why and was told it was being cleaned
How can a car I was. Meant to pick up an hour and a half before I was actually seen be not ready to be driven
So another 15 minutes wait
An absolute joke of a company

What is going on at Dublin airport

What is going on at Dublin airport? Absolutely disgraceful…. Over an hour to pick up a car that was pre booked. Cannot believe that this is allowed. No one at the airport desk even warned me. Won’t be using again.

Avoid this company at all costs

As my own car is still under warranty, they organised a rental car for me while my own car was in for repairs.
Europcar dropped the rental car off at my house, straight away I noticed a lot of dents and scratches on the car and also a chip on the windscreen. Dean assured me that everything was recorded. The following day when I started driving the car, the warning message came in for under deflated tyres. I put air in the tyres to only have the same message pop up two days later. After 4 or 5 weeks of having to do this every day or two, I went to Europcar in Wexford asking if I have to sort it, or will they? They instructed me to take it to a tyre repair shop in Wexford to get it sorted. After 3 hours when I received the car back, there was a long scratch mark on the back of the car. I rang Dean straight away to inform him about it and he told me that he’s “sure it was on the car already”. According to me it wasn’t. I also sent him an email stating the damage on the car and did not receive a response. After returning the car to Carlow, where my own car was, I received an email from Europcar about the damage on the back car and the chip on the windscreen, wanting me to pay €950. According to them, regardless of where the damage happened, the car was in my possession so I’m responsible for it. I was also told that the car was now at the Kilkenny branch. After going back and forth, they said that I can send my own assessor to look at the car. And no surprise, they won’t answer my phone calls or messages. I had to contact my bank as they started to take money from my account.
I’ve rented cars before and never had a bad experience before.

Don’t use this company

Don’t use this company!
Hired a car, expecting to use sat nav. Wasn’t able to, as only worked with old USB portal. Don’t make people aware before hand that you will potentially need a wire with an old USB port. They stopped making phones with the old USB in 2020, but said everyone still has them. Was then expecting me to pay for a sat nav to use. So they don’t make people aware so they can get more money off you paying for a sat nav.

TAKE CARE

TAKE CARE. I had an issue with my vehicle, and phoned Europcar for advice. They asked AA to contact me. As I was travelling home that day, AA suggested Europcar send a new car to get me back, as AA could not guarantee they could complete the check in time. Europcar (Ireland) were unable to provide a car from 2 offices, so they told me to take a cab to the airport, and they would reimburse me. After providing the receipt, they then refused to, as they said there was no damage to the car. I have been complaining for 6 months, and taken it to their Ombudsman, but as Europcar deny assuring me of a refund, they will not back me. If you in a similar situation, get written assurance first. I was appalled at the Customer Service. I will never use this company again, and if I could give zero starts I would.

***DUBLIN AIRPORT TYRE SCAM ALERT***

***DUBLIN AIRPORT TYRE SCAM ALERT***

This branch is scamming customers by giving you cars with faulty tyres that go flat so you have to call road assistance and charge you €200. If your tyre alert comes in turn back immediately and ask for car to he swapped.

We collected our car and the tyre pressure warning light came in within 5 minutes of driving, I went straight to a petrol station and filled them, however woke up to flat tyre. Called road side assistance who said they patched it up. When I dropped off the car I was then told about the charge.

A gentleman who was next to us overhead the conversation and after told they had done the same to him two weeks prior.

So please be aware of this scam they are running at this branch. RETURN CAR IMMEDIATELY IF TYRE PRESSURE COMES ON!!

Stay away!

No damage to the car so they decided to say I was smoking in the car. I DO NOT SMOKE! No nothing just 2 members of staff being rude and dismissive. They have said the small bit of sand is ash!
Not in the terminal and hidden charges galore! Stay away. Doesn’t deserve 1 star!

DO NOT HIRE A CAR FROM EUROPCAR DUBLIN AIRPORT!! The wait time is minimum 2 hours and it is poorly organized. I don’t know how they are still able to operate. Booking online ahead of time does not help. You will still have to join the virtual queues (2 different ones) to get your keys. Terrible service.

We had to wait almost two hours to collect a car at Dublin airport. We had booked and paid for the car months before and there were no issues we could see aside from a lack of staff. No-one seemed concerned - when asked the manager said something about 'a lot of planes arriving at the same time', something you'd think could be expected at an airport. My query to Europcar didn't even get a response

Very Disappointing Experience at Rental Car Return

We have rented cars from many different rental companies over the years and have never had an experience like this with a vehicle return.

When we returned our car to Europcar in Ireland, the employee spent an unusually long amount of time inspecting the vehicle. He then told us that we had scratched the rim of one of the tires. We did not cause this damage and had no knowledge of it occurring during our rental.

What made the experience particularly frustrating was the timing. We were returning the car and trying to get to the airport to catch our flight, which is stressful enough without suddenly being confronted with an allegation of damage that we did not cause.

After this experience, I can’t help but feel that Europcar is looking for opportunities to charge customers for minor damage. Whether intentional or not, that was certainly how the experience felt to us.

We have rented vehicles from many companies and have never felt this way about a rental return. Based on this experience, I would be very hesitant to rent from Europcar again and would encourage other travelers to carefully photograph and document every inch of their vehicle before and after their rental, particularly the wheels and rims.

A rental car company should make customers feel confident that they will be treated fairly when they return the vehicle. Unfortunately, that was not our experience with Europcar.

yes pleaseI would give 0 stars if I could.
Hired out a car in knock airport Ireland,in July. The car was riddled with scuffs etc it even had the wiper mising from back window.
On returning the car a GENTLEMAN came to look at the car half way through his inspection he said must go into the office for a moment, after a little while he returned and went straight for the bumper and said there is a scuff there and we will have to charge. We had no accidents and am positive we had no incidents to cause any damage. It was obvious it was there before and they had not charged the previous customer, and that is why he went into the office to check on previous damage.I had also photos to prove it was there he did not want to know.I complained to Europcar and did not even get a reply. This company are scaming customers out of money, and also insurance companies. Please do not hire from this company.Ellie

I hired a car from Europcar Dublin…

I hired a car from Europcar Dublin airport. The online booking was very easy to navigate and indicated all costs at a quick glance. It would have been helpful if the booking indicated to go straight to the car rental village as I wasted time speaking to the rental desk at the terminal. Signage directing from the terminal building to the Europcar shuttle bus could be improved.
Dean at the Europcar rental village was very helpful, he was clear, concise and efficient. The car provided by Europcar was almost new and very clean. I would have no hesitation using them another time.

Unexplained overcharges and no response

Paid €810 in full for my rental via Wisecars. Upgraded at the Europcar desk on collection at €12.50 per day for 37 days = €462.50. 7 days before I returned the car Europcar charged €621.00 to my credit card. The car was returned undamaged and signed off as so. The next day Europcar charged €464.50 to my credit card. No explanations, receipts, invoices etc were issued. I complained about the €623.00 overcharge on 25/07/26. I received an acknowledgement email and case number. 1 week later a further similar email apologising for the delay. And nothing since. Disgraceful, stinks of fraud in fact. I have raised a new complaint 13/08/26 regarding the above, received an acknowledgement email that day, and have again received nothing further. Avoid like the plague.

Unfortunately, Literal Scammers

Haven’t returned our rental car yet but absolutely dreading it. YOUNG DRIVERS, BEWARE. We were scammed to pay SO much extra without being told what was optional. Since it was our first time renting we didn’t know what to ask, and they charged us €880 upon pickup while phrasing it like it was mandatory charges (despite us already paying online). When we showed concern for the cost they brushed it off and gave us a breakdown that didn’t include an explanation for all the extras they charged.

While we were on the highway, we noticed the tire rim flapping and were told to bring it to the nearest Europcar location when we called support. When we went to a smaller Europcar rental store, the man at the counter told us blatantly that we had been charged far more than we needed to pay and helped us out with repair to avoid a charge. Also, the faulty rim wasn’t listed as damage upon pick up despite it being present in our initial videos. Very upset and disappointed by the dishonesty and will NEVER rent from them again. Wish us luck for the return, guarantee it won’t be good despite us returning it in better condition than we recieved it.

Disappointing

We rented a vehicle with the Dublin branch and experienced numerous difficulties

1) Despite selecting terminal pickup we were required to use a shuttle bus to a separate area with long waiting times
2) Was told I could not pay a deposit with a debit card or Apple Pay. Subsequently had to buy a second insurance to lower the premium which I was told could be refunded (it apparently, can not be refunded)
3) Have been unable to get through to any branch regarding a lost item left in the vehicle despite calling and emailing customer service.

We had our own CDW insurance policy but were told it wasn’t acceptable and were forced to pay 3 times the cost at the desk. Multiple customers at the desk were having the same issue! The agent said (but you just paid this much for the rental?) wanted a bread card company letter saying they would cover the cost of the vehicle if damaged??
