What a brilliant pet shop the staff are amazing. Our sale assistant Alex not only made Ethel the dachshund comfortable while fitting her with the correct size life jacket she explained where the jacket should fit on the dog and how to adjust as my pup grows, Alex also tried her for a harness , unfortunately Ethel still has more growing to do, so Alex suggested that we wait a little longer as there wasn’t the perfect fit for her at the moment, her honesty was great . We have taken this onboard and will be visiting again for Ethel’s harness when she has grown. Brilliant pet shop!

A delightful shop in the heart of Keswick, Cumbria. Upon entering, I was met with a wide array of equipment, foods, and accessories from a multitude of well-known brands, all displayed in easy view within thought-out sections.

Podgy Paws caters to a wide range of dog owners, from casual walkers to obsessive Canicross runners. They stock bespoke equipment from specialist manufacturers such as Non-Stop Dogwear, which sets them apart from many other shops I have visited.

The staff are very approachable, possessing a wide range of experience—from those learning the trade to experts with immense knowledge—united by a common denominator: a genuine love for dogs. Emmie was extremely helpful and fitted the Non-Stop Dogwear harness perfectly to ensure it met all criteria for my border collie."

It is certainly worth the drive to Cumbria for the visit and also gives you the opportunity to spend the day in the idyllic Cumbria town of Keswick.

Ashley advised us on the best type of harness for our terrier. She spent lots of time fitting the harness and advising us on the correct fit. We have now been using the harness for a few days and Millie is very happy wearing it.

Wow, amazing experience purchasing from Podgy paws. My wife and I were browsing their website from the comfort of our home in Northern Ireland. We were looking for a dog carrier / back pack for our upcoming adventures in Austria. Maggie our dog loves hiking and cycling but at the grand age of 13 she can’t walk just as far as she used to.
We found exactly what we were looking for. The K9 sports sack Knavigate was perfect.
We couldn’t click a buy now button because the company likes to check the size requested. I sent an email and included a few pics of me measuring Maggie.
I was contacted promptly the next morning by phone and had a lovely chat with Ashley one of the team. She was so helpful. I purchased over the phone. I was shocked at how little she was charging for posting to NI as most English stores tend to rip us off when it comes to delivery charges.
Maggies back pack arrived in less than 24 hours. Impressive. Maggie was immediately packed into the back pack without any fuss and seemed to love it, to a point where she was nearly snoozing as she was walked around the garden.
The quality of the product was amazing and probably one of the best online shopping experiences I’ve had for a long time.
One day on our camper van trips, I hope to visit the store in person.

Lovely shop, huge range of doggy stuff including specialist harnesses for flotation, raincoats, coolcoats etc. Incredibly helpful staff, tried different sizes of harness on our dog before finding best fit. Good range of foods, treats, dog beds. I noticed they also hire out dog buggies for older dogs, have never seen that before. Items quite expensive, but good quality, and range tempted me to spend more than I meant to!

We visited Podgy Paws during our holiday to the Lake District as Moose had clearly grown out of his harnesses and they were rubbing.

We were impressed at the level and range of stock available at the shop. Alex served us and helped us find and expertly fit a new harness suitable to take Moose out on the fells in comfort and style.

We could not have asked for better service especially as Moose had a lot to say to both the staff and other customers alike during our visit!

We have just spent the day walking and no rubs or sore bits, well at least for the dog, I on other other hand might be a different story.

Our Labrador was super anxious and the collar we had for her just wasn’t appropriate. The lady there helped us fit a harness and was very patient and understanding. We’ve used the harness every day since then and our dog is easier to control and even she seems more comfortable too. Friendly staff, fair prices, really happy thanks 👍🏻

What an amazing business the best pet shop I have ever visited . On holiday in Keswick my 14 yr old terrier needed a harness after always using a slip lead, she is an awkward shape being lean and fit but lumpy and partially sighted and Ashley was superb giving us 5 choices before we found the ideal fit. Despite the shop being busy she never made us feel rushed was totally focused on what was right for my dog kept her in a quiet area and had super knowledge of not just the product range but dogs overall and what is best for our needs. I got a harness 2 leads and absolutely first class service and amazing choice. I will be back definitely worth the trip would highly recommend thanks a million Ashley! Xx

What an absolute gem we accidentally walked in while site seeing in Keswick and walked out with 2 supremely handsome kitted out bichons !!! Got the most brilliant body suits , rain jackets , harnesses and leads- specially adored the traffic leads with the multiple length settings and the poo bag holders! Loved it such a smashing collection we would drive down from scotland just to stock up for our dogs . Ashley was incredible

All weather choices. I would give the place 10 stars and even as we were wandering the market 3 people stopped and asked about where we got our dogs clothes and we sent them straight away to pp ! All doggy parents must make a trip to this simple unassuming but brilliantly stocked shop - our wee Teddy and Milo never looked this smart and comfy!

It has always been a delight to deal with Podgy Paws whether in the shop or ordering online & this time was no different except this time I ordered the wrong size by mistake but it was no problem. Podgy Paws soon had the correct size sent out with no fuss or ticking off. Excellent as always.

We visited this great little shop in June 2025. We have a large German Shepherd, who is quite reactive to strangers so we didn't take him in but the staff were so friendly and so helpful and were very happy for him to come into the shop early morning to avoid too much of a crowd to help fit him for one of their amazing rain coats. This is the only place that I have found that stocks dog coats that actually fit, usually the biggest you can find is 70-75cm. They stock up to 90cm. We ended up leaving without buying a coat, just because we ran out of time but I looked them up a few months later and was greeted with the same lovely customer service over email and phone and the lovely Alex helped us order the right size. For anyone not sure, I was going to order the 90cm after measuring but Alex assured me the 80cm would fit well, we went with her advice and it fits beautifully. The coat is a Fjord waterproof, the quality is brilliant and really is waterproof. Anyone looking for great advice or visiting Keswick and you have pets, make sure you visit this shop, they have absolutely everything.

Every holiday in Keswick we visit this wonderful pet store, loads of choice, friendly, knowledgeable staff, much, much better than the big chain pet stores.

Based on previous reviews we took an hour long trip with our dogs to buy new harnesses and winter coats. We were looking to spend a fairly considerable amount as we have four dogs. We arrived and were totally ignored by the staff who were just chatting . We stayed a while browsing the stock but in the end just decided to move on and buy elsewhere

We went to Podgy Paws to get new harnesses for our dogs. Ashley assisted us and made sure the dogs were comfortable and didn't get stressed. They loved every minute, especially the free treat!
The harnesses are great and I can highly recommend visiting this shop if you have any pet needs

We had been looking for a K9 Sport Sack for a while so we could take our dog Teddy with us on bike rides. On a recent trip to Keswick, we were really pleased to see that Podgy Paws stocked them. We called in to try them out and were looked after by Alex, who was absolutely amazing – so helpful and knowledgeable. Nothing was too much trouble. She patiently talked us through all the options, explained the differences, and even let us try the packs on for size to make sure we got the perfect fit for Teddy. Thanks to Alex’s advice, we left with the right choice and couldn’t be happier. Teddy’s first outing in the pack went really well, and we’re looking forward to using it on our trips away.
