Complicated process; never again.
Hard to deal with and overly complicated.
Overly pushy insurance sale at pick-up; no CDW as standard - which is highly unusual and means 3rd party damage excess becomes irrelevant. Then impossible to change once rental started. Finally no invoice or confirmation of succesful vehicle return and now being held on online chat for 30 minutes mid-conversation with no answer.

I booked a taxi with Booking.com from Salzburg train stn to the hotel.
They charged me €45, a journey that only cost €15 for 10 min ride with the local taxi.
Total ripped off with Sixt taxi services!!!
Sixt is one of the worst car rental…
Sixt is one of the worst car rental companies I have ever dealt with. After you return the vehicle, they may try to find or even invent reasons to charge additional fees, fines, or damages that were never there. It feels like their business model relies on extracting extra money from customers after the rental is over. I strongly recommend avoiding SIXT if you do not want any unpleasant financial surprises after returning your car.
Extremely poor customer support and…
Extremely poor customer support and service. The vehicle was returned, but the contract remains OPEN in my system and automated overdue messages keep coming.
My deposit has not been refunded, and customer service only offers repeated excuses without taking action.
I demand the immediate manual closure of Rental Agreement , my deposit refund, and compensation for the vehicle breakdown.
An unacceptable customer service
An unacceptable customer service, and extreme emotional distress that my family and I experienced at 08/08/26 at Sixt Car Hire at Vienna City Center Branch.
Months ago, I booked and pre-paid a deposit for a 9 seater vehicle specifically to accommodate my family of 6 and our large amount of luggage for a long-planned family holiday.
Upon arrival, I was informed that the vehicle I ordered was unavailable. The agent offered a 7-seater as an alternative, which I reluctantly accepted due to the lack of options. However, when I reached the parking lot, I discovered that the vehicle provided was actually a 5-seater. Forcing a family of 6 with heavy luggage into a 5-seater car is not only physically impossible but also illegal and highly dangerous.
When I returned to the office to report this, the branch completely refused to provide an immediate solution or arrange a driver to transfer a proper vehicle to us. Instead, I was told to travel by myself to the Vienna Airport branch to pick up an appropriate car.
This gross mismanagement resulted in severe disruptions and financial and emotional damages!
As a global brand, Sixt completely failed to deliver the service promised, leaving a paying family stranded.
Harassment for PAID Invoice
Harassment for PAID Invoice
their post-rental billing and customer support are an absolute nightmare. I received an invoice for a €35 traffic violation administration fee, which I paid promptly and provided proof of payment. Despite this, customer service completely ignored my emails, and they continues to harass me with repeated payment demands for an already settled bill. WHAT A SCAM! Writing to their customer service email and get no reply at all. Completely useless.

Avoid SIXT Austria at all cost
My family's rental car became unusable on the first day of our holiday in Austria. We waited over 6.5 hours for Sixt to provide a replacement vehicle, but none was provided. As a result, we had to cancel our trip to Hallstatt, lose prepaid accommodation, arrange last-minute train travel, and pay for additional accommodation in Salzburg.
What disappoints me most is not the breakdown itself, but Sixt's handling of the situation. Their customer service agreed to reimburse our alternative travel costs because they could not provide a replacement car. However, instead of honouring the promised credit and properly addressing the dispute, Sixt has repeatedly threatened debt recovery action and negative credit reporting.
It is extremely frustrating to be chased for payment while Sixt ignores its own commitments and responsibility for the disruption caused to my family.
Poor customer service, poor communication, and no accountability. Based on this experience, I would not rent from Sixt again.
Misleading information
★☆☆☆☆
I booked a rental car with SIXT in February 2026 through their app for the period June 25, 2026 to July 29, 2026. During the booking process, I entered the exact pickup and return dates, and the app displayed a total price of €863.01. Naturally, I understood this to be the total cost for the entire rental period.
Only after the rental had already started did SIXT place an additional authorization on my credit card. When I contacted customer service, I was told that the displayed price applied to only 28 rental days, even though the app had accepted my requested rental period of 34 days.
The only indication of this limitation was a small line stating “28 rental days,” while the app prominently showed my actual pickup and return dates together with a single total price. In my opinion, this is misleading and lacks the transparency consumers should expect when booking online.
If the actual price for my selected rental period was more than €1,100, then that is the price that should have been displayed before I confirmed and paid for the reservation. Customers should not have to calculate the number of rental days themselves or discover after the fact that the quoted price does not cover the period they selected.
I have asked SIXT to correct the charges and improve the transparency of its booking process. I hope they resolve this matter fairly, but based on my experience I cannot recommend booking long-term rentals through the app until this issue has been addressed.
Transparency in pricing is a basic consumer expectation. Unfortunately, my experience with SIXT did not meet that standard.
Very bad ❌👎🏻👎🏻
Absolutely terrible service at Austria…
Absolutely terrible service at Austria train station. I waited 2.5 hours for my car because it wasn't ready when I arrived. During that time, I was repeatedly encouraged to pay extra for a more expensive vehicle. When I declined, I was offered a car that was supposedly "in the same category," which was ridiculous. I had specifically chosen my original car because it had a large boot, and none of the alternatives offered comparable luggage space.
After waiting all that time, I was then told that the baby seat I had pre-booked was no longer available. As I was travelling with a young child, this meant I couldn't safely or legally take the car.
In the end, I had to cancel, find another rental company at short notice. Thankfully, Dryve provided excellent service and I'd definitely recommend them.
To make matters worse, I'm still waiting for my refund because I booked through Booking. com/Flizzr, who have refused to take responsibility despite the rental company being unable to provide an essential part of my booking.
I would avoid Flizzr and think twice before booking through Booking. com for car hire.
Excellent Service and Great Cars Every Time
Friendly staff, cars that feel almost brand new, and they accept debit cards with no mileage restrictions. They also offer full insurance with zero excess, which makes the rental process stress-free.
Everything is simple, transparent, and easy to understand. If the car you booked isn't available, they upgrade you to a higher-class vehicle at no extra cost.
I've rented a car from them three times already and have been very satisfied every time
Perfect Experienced from SIXT Vienna
I have already rented more than 5 times from SIXT in Vienna Westbahnhof and Schonbrunner street, and I have never had a single issue with cars, pickup, or checking out the car. simply lovely :)
Poor experience but FANTASTIC customer service
We rented a car for 4 days out of Vienna. It was not a great start and we had issues, however I have never had such proactive, great customer service hence my review.
The directions to the car hire place we received weren't correct which was little frustrating, and then when we finally found the office the Sixt individual wouldn't give us our car as he said it was too small and it was illegal in Austria to have bags on the backseat that weren't tied down. We spoke for a while but he wouldn't be moved and so we had to pay 50% more than the original rental to get the car.
On receiving an online survey about our experience I told them of our issue. Within 2 days they had written to us by email, apologise for what had happened and cancelled the extra charges - all unprompted.
I have NEVER had assistance like this from a car hire company who are notoriously awful to deal with, and from looking into Sixt I can see they are still a family owned business. Their customer service was excellent, and whilst they shouldn't have done what they did, I give them kudos for dealing with the matter in a great manner. Would use them again purely because of this.
Lied no same or lower, force upgrade with €700+
It’s a trap, Scammed, dishonored.
Lied about no car, force us to spend extra 700 euros for a downgrade.
Definitely the worst rental experience.
When pickup the car, agent lied about no car available, forced us to spend EXTRA 700~1100 euros to “upgrade” from E class, to a C class.
He lied that there are absolutely NO equal or Lower tier available. And said it will be more expensive if we book a new one.
(see screenshots)
This happened after we filled every form for 10 minutes, right before they give me key!
Totally waste of time for dirty scam.

This horrible experience totally break my expectations of sixt, as a loyal customer for 8 years.
For the site manager and sixt corp.
If your corporate image is to be trustable and reliable, your employees definitely doing the opposite.
We got scammed and still waiting for a response from Sixt.
I booked the car throught Auro Europe US website (automatic Citroen pick up at the airport Vienna), and they did not have that car, but Opal which we had a prior bad experience. We opted for a 20 dollar upgrade charge fro Peugeot and we were scammed! My husband was specific and said our reservation was in US dollars, and we are just paying for the upgrade only and crossing the boarder charge. Sixt employee at Vienna airport mentioned security deposit charge at check out. He charged us double the price of what we paid and in EUROS! We returned the car in pristine condition. Our original cost for 7 days (we had the car for 6 days and 3 hours) was $425 including all taxes, and our final bill was Euro 708.24 which is close to USD 840. I went to the website to check and the same car that was ended up renting and was a lot cheaper than what they billed us. I have screen shots. We called Sixt, and got some call center in Asia. The woman was rude, shouting and repeated the same script over and over, telling us we were wrong and we need to pay in Euros. My husband is an attorney and couldn't get her to stop talking to listen to his issue. We notified Auto Europe and they are still waiting for the Sixt to get back to them. It is a week later and no one has returned the email. Returning the car in VIenna at the train station was another nightmare! We couldn't find the entrance for the drop off, google maps made us drive in circle around one portion of the train station. We were about to drive to the airport but I got out to look for the Sixt rental office inside the train station, running from level 1 (office was closed) to lower level (where the office was also closed). No one said it would be a holiday and the offices were closed. I couldn't reach a person, customer service or anyone. Finally inside the garage, I found other customers who had same trouble finding the place and drop off box! There was one box at the wall for pick up car keys, but the drop off box was else where, hidden in random location with no sign of any kind. It would make sense to haver both boxes next to each other by the wall when one enters.... Other people were looking for it also. We lost an hour plus. A terrible process and the whole experience of renting a car in Vienna from beginning until the end. A total nightmare. Shame on Sixt's airport employee who practically ripped us off while smiling.
Stay away from this company
Stay away from this company! They have been holding my deposit since March. They claim they released it, but it's not visible in the banking system. When I asked for the official ARN (Acquirer Reference Number) code, they said they would request it from their payment provider. It has been EXACTLY ONE MONTH and they are completely ignoring my emails. I had to initiate a formal chargeback process through my bank to get my money back. Zero communication, zero customer service. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Never use Sixt Rent a Car
I have rented a car from Salzburg for a day with this firm. A few weeks later they sent me an email with a screen shot of a pdf file concerning a traffic fine of 30 euros for speeding at 39 km/h
In addition to this so called fine they also charged me with a service fee of 35 euros. Which, I believe has no legal basis in EU. And is insanely high comparing the service they had to do to send me that email!
The firm does not reply to my emails and my asking the original paper work for the fine.
This rental car business is one of the ones that you should stay away from. They feel corrupted.
Horrible booking experience
Horrible booking experience. AI without "I" everywhere, when finally transferred to a human, they sit somewhere far far away from any of the actual rental locations (not even in the same country) and don't know anything, neither can they help. Website was down for 2 days too. I don't understand where do those high reviews are coming from...
Damage scam
The experience at innsbruck airport was actually really smooth.
The problem is they then charged me €263 for a tiny scratch that I’m very sure did not happen during my rental. Feels like a tried and tested scam. I definitely feel scammed. Beware.
