Very disappointed with my experience at Plaza Espanya

Very disappointed with my experience at Sanitas Palma near Plaza Espanya.
I was not informed before booking my dental appointment that I would have to pay €80 because the procedure was not covered by my plan. If I had known, I would have cancelled the appointment.
What disappointed me most was the lack of a proper explanation or apology from the customer service team. As an international student, this experience makes me hesitant to recommend Sanitas to other students and friends.

Severe Negligence by Sanitas

Severe Negligence by Sanitas: Abandoned with Burns in Istanbul Due to Disastrous Assistance Management.
I am a Sanitas customer (Policy 81508131/4074). On August 19, 2026, I suffered an accident in Istanbul resulting in multiple burns and open abrasions from asphalt. I rushed to an emergency room at one of their network hospitals, Medicana Atașehir (File AV-2176497). After 7 HOURS OF WAITING, the insurer (Iris Global/Sanitas) was unable to process the payment confirmation, despite my calls. The hospital staff, witnessing the insurer's delay and the imminent risk of infection, were forced to desperately suggest that I either pay myself or step out to treat my wounds while waiting for Sanitas' confirmation. I was compelled to administer first aid to myself on a street curb, under unsanitary conditions. I only received a response when I proactively found and contacted an alternative email address 7 hours later. I have filed a formal pre-legal claim for professional negligence and inhumane treatment. DO NOT CONTRACT OVERSEAS ASSISTANCE WITH SANITAS. I hold all the evidence from their own emails confirming their inaction and the incalculable risk they exposed me to.

I purchased a Sanitas health insurance…

I purchased a Sanitas health insurance policy through Banco Sabadell because I was informed during the sales process that, after the first three months of the promotional period, I simply needed to contact Sanitas during the second month to keep a similar promotional price.

Before signing the contract, I made it absolutely clear that I could not afford to pay approximately €93 per month. I only agreed to purchase the policy because I was told there was an easy way to keep the premium close to the promotional price.

I followed those instructions exactly. During the second month, I contacted Sanitas and was told that this had never been possible, that the promotion would always end after three months, and that I would have to pay €93.40 per month.

Since that price was far beyond what I had agreed to pay, I immediately requested to cancel the policy.

That was when I discovered, for the first time, that according to Sanitas I could not cancel the policy before the end of the first annual period and would have to continue paying until April 2027.

What concerns me even more is that after carefully reviewing all the pre-contractual and contractual documents provided before I signed the policy, I could not find any clause that clearly and expressly informed me that a cancellation request during the first policy year would only take effect at the end of that annual period, requiring me to continue paying all remaining premiums until then.

I spent weeks trying to resolve this matter directly with Sanitas. I contacted Customer Service several times, submitted a formal complaint, and explained exactly what had happened.

The only response I received was that the contract was annual and that early cancellation was not possible.

At the same time, Banco Sabadell informed me that I had to cancel the insurance before I could close my bank account, while Sanitas maintained that the policy could not be cancelled before the annual expiry date. As a result, each company referred me to the other, leaving me without any practical solution.

Because no reasonable solution was offered, I had no choice but to file a formal complaint with the Spanish Directorate-General for Insurance and Pension Funds (DGSFP).

My criticism is not about the medical services provided by Sanitas. It is about the way this case was handled and the lack of clear and transparent information before I entered into a contract that I would never have accepted had I been properly informed.

My advice to anyone considering Sanitas is simple: make sure every important promise or condition is provided to you in writing before signing anything. It can save you from an expensive and extremely frustrating experience.

Do not use sanitas dental in estepona

Do not use sanitas dental in estepona. The hygienist chipped my porcelain veneer and after a few days, it fell off. I told them already that my porcelain veneer chipped while having a cleaning. They didn’t face and donthe right thing so i have to pay 680+150 euros for a new veneer. Which i am not supposed to pay because its not my fault. They are not professional and don’t want to pay my refund. I will not use sanitas estepona , malaga spain again.

It is good in general

Has it's own clinics, has support in English, the coverage is quite good. Sometimes you need to do extra unnecessary appointment. For example, my doctor noticed something in my breast and told me to make an ultrasound in 6 months, but she can't prescribe me that already as it is going to expire faster that I will be able to do the examination. I have to do another meeting with doctor only so that he could authorize me for that(and I have to pay for it)

Poor service gine

Had a double appointment for regular gine and pelvic floor. The Dr cancelled the pelvic floor appointment without asking and told me to come back in a month or she doesnt get paid for both appointments if it's within one month. With the premiums I'm paying that is not acceptable. I have to take time off to go these appointments. In the 5 min had with her she told me twice about not getting paid, which made it obvious that money was more important than me the patient :(

My wife was just denied coverage to the…

My wife was just denied coverage to the same doctor she was going for years. Sanitas quietly removed that clinic from our authorized list. All the medical history and recent analytics went to the garbage bin. But they never forget to raise our premium 20% every year. A criminally fraudulent insurer.

Not refund your money

i bought their insurance for Spain visa purpose, but we got rejected. They said they will refund to me but I only received a part of it. When I ask about the left over refund part. They just didn't respond and told me to call their CS dept even though i am over sea and couldn't contact phones to other countries. They said the process would be around 2 months max, but I've waited over 3 months. So far this is unreliable and disappointing to me. If you see my review, please contact me to refund the other part or else i will report your company to Spain Embassy in my country.

Unscrupulous Sanitas

Sanitas are an unscrupulous organisation that hides behind corporate policy to deny claims. I had a Dental Plus policy and was sent to a Sanitas partner who misdiagnosed my case and were brutal in their examination. I needed emergency care and they could not see me for weeks after the misdiagnosis. I went to a local practitioner and was seen within 24 hours, was given a correct diagnosis and treatment. I complained to Sanitas and was fobbed off by a reply bot. I could not have a conversation with anyone and they dismissed my cancellation request. I stopped paying my DD and they can sue me for the last 2 payments on a policy I’ve never claimed from. This is a dreadful company with zero compassion and incompetent recommendations. Avoid at all costs!

MAY 2025.Made an appointment to see Dr…

MAY 2025.Made an appointment to see Dr Roberto at centre medical centre calle Duque de Ahumada 54 Albox Almeria. Wanted help to find an oncologist to follow up on my pre breast cancer. Saw Dr he assured me I could have all the tests needed at his surgery. Booked in had bloods pee and poo sample. Ultrasound on breasts and abdomen told which I did to go to vivas hospital almeria for a mammogram. Waited results. Went back Dr Roberto overjoyed at my results except small discretion on my kidneys and in my bladder. Was booked in at the same surgery to see a gynecologist. Who after just looking at my blood test results was alarmed by what he saw. Immediately advised me to seek help from oncology and he asked for a chest and abdomen ct with contrast scan. I went to almeria for this . I think June at the latest. Had an appointment to 1st meet oncologist and to discuss the results of ct. She said my lungs looked fine everything looks fine except a shadow on my thorax. A pet-tac scan with contrast was ordered but had to travel a round 6 hour journey to granada. Went back sept for another meeting with oncologist she never as far as I'm aware viewed my scan.never. her words to Roy and I was to go find a thoracic surgeon who would be happy to operate on my thorax .Booked an appointment to see a thoracic surgeon in Murcia 5 hour round trip. He looked very closely at my scan and told both me and Roy i had at least four growths. 1 behind my heart
1 in my lung
1 on the left of thorax
And 1 on right of my thorax.
Roy and I was devastated to to be told this and it was the 1st we new.
November we sought another thoracic surgeon opinion online consultation from Madrid will be on my notes.
Neither surgeon opinion was to operate they both said some sort of treatment.
I also had an ebus biopsy performed from the oncologist opinion this was done on the 15th October 2025
I went back to see the oncologist to recieve the biology results she did not have them because I believe the correct tests had not been asked for.a lady from sanitas helped me to order the correct tests.
I went to the UK at the end of November to visit my children and a few days before I was due to return back to Spain i was taken poorly thinking I had a bug. I called sanitas travel insurance who set up a phone call but the Dr could not here me so she advised I call back and ask for a face to face Dr. I did not get that.
My daughter insisted a dr here see me which they did. They performed an ecg. Blood tests and xrays which showed a shadow in my lung. Then the really bad headaches started so I called the Dr again I was given a ct scan with contrast it showed at least 4 shadows in my chest and has unfortunately spread into my head The hospital respiratory oncologist team asked for all the information i had already as I thought obtained in Spain to avoid having to repeat procedures. Nobody wanted to help not sanitas not oncologist. I've had to go through the ebus procedure again and now there is a big problem over who will pay?? You won't cover me because I cannot travel. And I've been out the UK and paying into Spain with you sanitas for 6 years. How are you going to forfill your role as my insurance company? I see that you need to either pay my treatment or cancel our policy?

They said my card details were not correct, untrue. They paralized my cover for 6 months saying they couldn't charge. When I finally see the bill it is 200 euros more than it should be. When I try to pay online their system is blocked. These people are scoundrels.

Alexandra Lussmann is the person that made my experience a very positive one. Alexandra is wonderful! She is always very attentive to my needs and responds to my requests in a very fast manner. Plus she speaks English, which is the only language I know. Alexandra is always extremely helpful when I have medical needs.

Sanitas visa cover not worth the paper it’s written on

This health insurance is terrible.
Donot use. I should have realised when I asked for the proof that I had insurance for a year( visa requirement) I was told I had it . It shows a policy for 6 months duration but the receipt shows I paid for 12 months. This is standard procedure apparently after getting through to an operator who spoke good enough English and accepted by immigration!!? It was but that’s not the point.
Now I am waiting for a very easy simple test recommended as instructed by their designated doctor who appears for 1 day a week. He was very efficient though couldn’t tell me where to get a test accepted by Sanitas!!
Sanitas now need a report from the doctor. I assume they have been in touch but multiple phone calls and communications with Sanitas have seen two weeks pass.
I am talking about a stool sample!!!
There is no way you wait for authorisation from an insurance company , when you have a medical issue after you have complied with directions to use their assigned practitioners.
This is a third world dysfunctional company.

They don't answer to the question you ask, they just want to sell you the higher priced plans

I asked about a certain insurance plan and even after 5 emails I still didn't get an answer about THAT plan that I was interested in. Raquel offered me 2 different plans which are both higher priced than what I was interested in in the first place. I asked for a comparison, never got any, asked for the initial plan details 3 times, never got any. TERRIBLE, DISGUSTING customer service.
