We rented a Porsche Panamera for the weekend and drove it to Abu Dhabi. The car was great - perfect condition, very comfortable and really nice to drive.

Everything with the rental was easy. We got the car quickly and returning it was also fast and smooth. Special thanks to Shen for the help.

Overall, everything was great and we really enjoyed both the car and the whole rental experience.

They “verified” my documents, took AED 662.40, then refused the rental and didn't want to refund my upfront payment

One of the worst rental experiences I have ever had. The entire process—from collecting the vehicle to returning it—was hell.

Before paying, I clearly told Octane that my Emirates ID was expired and asked them how I should complete their form. They told me to proceed. After reviewing my submission, they wrote that my documents had been “successfully verified” and requested an upfront payment of AED 662.40.

They briefly mentioned bringing original documents. However, only after confirming receipt of my money did they send the crucial details: digital copies, scans and photographs would not be accepted; UAE residents required local UAE documents; and failure to provide them would be treated as cancellation caused by the customer.

At collection, they rejected my documents.

I immediately offered to return within a few hours with another eligible driver. Instead of helping resolve the issue, Octane informed me that my AED 662.40 was non-refundable. They also said the Volkswagen Teramont I had reserved had suddenly been sent to a service centre.

I had guests waiting at the airport and important commitments. Because Octane was refusing to refund my upfront payment, I felt financially trapped into accepting their available replacement: a 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser 200.

My original booking total was AED 1,656 The replacement cost became AED 2,136plus another AED 150 for an international driving document. I ended up paying substantially more for an older vehicle that I had never originally chosen.

Getting the car was hell. Octane told me it would be ready in 15 minutes, but the collection process took nearly two hours. After finally receiving it, one of the rear seats would not unfold—even though I had repeatedly stressed that I specifically needed a working seven-seat vehicle.

Giving the car back was another hell. The registered driver unexpectedly had to travel one day early. I was not asking for any refund for the unused day; I simply wanted Octane to accept its own car early. Instead, I was told about an AED 525 charge and was quoted AED 245 plus VAT to add another driver for only one day. The conversations, approvals, waiting and return process consumed several more hours.

This company wasted a major part of my Dubai trip and put me in an embarrassing position in front of my guests.

I have retained the full WhatsApp conversations, payment confirmations and signed agreement. My advice is simple: do not deal with them and do not pay anything upfront
