Indie Campers vans are a great way to discover new places while camping with comfort. This is our second time in two different countries and love how accessible they are. Great customer service too!

Breach of guidelines
Drop off screw up.
My contract specified the drop off location in Seville Spain Seville, Nave 50 Calle 34 Alcalá de Guadaíra, Andalucía, 41500, Spain, a depot that they had moved from 2 years prior. It took some time to discover the correct drop off location, causing us to miss a train connection and having to pay several hundred euros for replacement tickets. The staff at the drop off informed me that this had been a problem for the past 2 years and head office had ignored the issue.

Our holiday was ruined – unsafe van, no support, completely unacceptable
We booked a motorhome from Indie Campers in Dublin including their premium package for a long planned holiday. What we received was dangerous, dirty, badly maintained, and nowhere near the service advertised.
Pickup – 2¼ hours of chaos
The Dublin depot was completely disorganised. Only two overworked staff trying to handle multiple customers. The site looked like a charity shop drop off, with no hygiene, no process, and no professionalism.
Unsafe vehicle – should never have been rented
The van had:
• A long crack in the front windscreen
• A cracked side window
• Door open warning while driving
• Indicator malfunction
• Broken passenger blind
• Broken divider to the sleeping area
• Unsecured bathroom tap
• Missing bathroom mirror with exposed adhesive and wires
• Interior table damaged
• A drawer that flew out while turning because it couldn’t lock
This was not just poor quality — it was unsafe.
Dirty interior & substandard equipment
Inside smelled strongly of tobacco smoke. Floors were dirty. Bedding was mismatched bare foam. The drop down bed was too small for two adults. The ladder slipped dangerously when trying to access the rear bed.
The “premium” accessories were a joke:
• No cups or glasses
• Mismatched crockery and utensils (only a potato peeler, one plastic spoon, and a spatula!)
• No sharp knife
• Towels taken from a mixed bag, many appearing unclean
• Poor quality pillows and not enough pillowcases (we had to buy our own)
Critical incident – abandoned by Indie Campers
At 4:30 AM, we were locked out of the van with the key inside. We spent hours outside in the cold and rain, relying on strangers for help. Every Indie Campers contact number and WhatsApp support failed. No answer. No assistance. Nothing.
This left us with no alternative but to cancel our entire holiday, return the van after only 24 hours, book emergency accommodation, and fly home six days early.
Financial loss & emotional distress
We lost:
• £1,688.01
• €697.75
• And our long planned holiday
My wife was extremely distressed, and the whole experience was deeply upsetting.
Final verdict
Indie Campers provided: ❌ An unsafe vehicle ❌ A filthy interior ❌ Misrepresented “premium” service ❌ No customer support during an emergency ❌ No accountability
Our holiday was ruined. Unless Indie Campers fully resolves this, we will be escalating legally and sharing our experience widely to warn other travellers.
Avoid Indie Campers. Our experience was unacceptable, unsafe, and deeply distressing.

⭐ 1/5 Watch out
⭐ 1/5 – Unfortunately, the problems continued even after we returned the camper.
Our experience with Indie Campers started badly and somehow continued getting worse.
We rented a Jeep camper from the Seattle location because I was running a 200-mile ultramarathon and my fiancée was crewing me.
At pickup, everyone seemed to have been given the same 3 PM pickup time, which resulted in us waiting around two hours before getting the vehicle.
Unfortunately, that was only the beginning.
We paid extra for equipment that was supposed to make the trip possible and practical:
• The generator we rented was enormous – around 50–60+ lbs – meaning my fiancée couldn’t even lift it herself.
• Rain came through the rooftop tent.
• The cooler didn’t work properly, and we had to throw away approximately $100 worth of food.
• The cookware, plates, utensils and other equipment supplied with the camper were extremely dirty.
Despite all of this, we took very good care of the vehicle.
Before returning it on August 19, we cleaned EVERYTHING – including the kitchen equipment and bedding. We returned it with more fuel than when we received it and even refilled the generator.
The employee inspecting the vehicle at drop-off was impressed with how we returned it.
We also took photos documenting the condition of the vehicle at both pickup and drop-off.
Now, weeks after returning the vehicle, our deposit still hasn’t been returned.
When I contacted Indie Campers through WhatsApp, I was told that the deposit had apparently been used because of “damage” or something similar to the vehicle.
Damage?
That was honestly difficult to believe considering the condition in which we returned it.
I have therefore asked Indie Campers to provide documentation showing exactly what damage they claim occurred, including photos, the inspection report and an explanation of the charge.
At this point, the biggest problem is no longer the broken cooler, leaking tent, dirty equipment, impractical generator or long pickup delay.
It is the amount of time we have had to spend dealing with problems that should never have existed in the first place.
I want to emphasize one thing: the employees we personally met at the Seattle location were genuinely friendly and helpful. My criticism is not directed at them.
It is directed at Indie Campers as a company and the overall organization, quality control and handling of our rental.
We returned the vehicle on August 19.
I am still waiting for my deposit.
If Indie Campers believes we damaged the vehicle, I expect them to provide clear evidence of that damage and justify the deduction.
If they cannot, I expect our deposit to be returned.
I will update this review when Indie Campers resolves the situation.

Easy booking
Two defective vans, told not to take the keys, then charged in full
I booked a 14-night campervan rental from the Bilbao (Derio) depot, pick-up
19:30 on 4 September 2026, paid in full in advance (EUR 1,798.36).
Two vehicles were offered in succession. The first had a broken window, broken
awning and a smashed headlight. The second had a window that would not secure,
a faulty external water-filling valve, a dismantled bed frame and ladder, damaged gas hob
controls, and a soiled mattress and cabinets. I reported everything with
photographs through their official channel.
At 18:47 Indie Campers wrote to me that the depot was "still trying to repair
the reported issues with the window, gas valve, ladder, and toilet". At 19:39,
past my contracted pick-up time, the bed frame and ladder were still
dismantled and the window was broken, too.
What I find hardest to accept is this: at 18:10 Indie Campers themselves wrote
"Please don't drive the camper or accept the keys while these safety and
hygiene issues remain unresolved." I followed that instruction. They then
classified my not taking the keys as a customer-initiated cancellation and kept
the entire amount, including the preparation fee and the protection plan for a
vehicle I never received.
Their own Rental Agreement, clause 14.7.4, provides a full refund where vehicle
condition is a rental blocker affecting safety and the customer declines the
proposed alternatives. That is exactly what happened.
I have filed a formal complaint with Kontsumobide, the Basque consumer
authority, and a card dispute with my bank. All statements above are supported
by written messages with timestamps.

STAY AWAY
STAY AWAY - Do not recommend!!! Support smaller and local businesses who might actually care about ruining a whole holiday. Months ago we reserved and paid in full for a campervan for a 10 day trip. Come to find out day of and landing from an international flight that they changed our reservation to a large motorhome. We tried to resolve it with agents before going to location, could get virtually no assistance or talk to anyone who could actually provide useful information. Upon arrival the man was kind but clearly a salesman trying to convince us this much larger RV was perfectly suitable (the look on a kind Scottish man’s face dropping off another booking was shocked when he found out we were trying to drive through the highlands in this very very large motorhome). All our camp sites were booked for small vans. Our whole itinerary was planned on having a smaller sized vehicle, specific roads that had size limitations. We tried to even be amenable to waiting a couple days to see if anything returned, but were just told that everything was booked even right as returned (but somehow our booking was less important than these other people’s). Its crazy to think they cancelled a whole holiday that was prepaid months in advance and tried to sell it off as them “upgrading us”. If someone books a particular van you expect that van! Not something much larger and different! we simply didn’t feel comfortable driving a huge motorhome. Not sure why they think this ok? Even a few days notice would have been helpful and more respectful than the day of. Will never engage with or recommend this company to anyone (and will specifically recommend against it).
Update: they are now saying they won’t refund us because they gave us a “free upgrade”. Even though this upgrade was a completely different camper and size that we never reserved or ever wanted to drive!!!!!!!!!! Disgusting company.
ok experience nice roadtrip Australie was wonderful
