I don't even know where to start. I passed my test today and I owe it all to Steve Patterson.
From the very first lesson he was so kind, compassionate, thoughtful and professional. I was nervous, juggling work and my little one, and sometimes I doubted myself — but he never did. He was patient with me every single time, explained everything so calmly, and made me feel safe to make mistakes and learn.
Steve always encouraged me saying, "you've got this". I never felt judged, only supported.
He didn't just teach me to drive — he went above and beyond and even helped me with looking at cars too, making sure I got the right, safe one for me and my little one.
On test day I actually felt ready because he had prepared me so well for the Taunton routes. When I passed, he was just as happy as I was.
If you're looking for an instructor who genuinely cares about you driving on the whole, not just about passing, choose him. He changed my life today — I can now drive my little one around in our little car, and that's because of him. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Really positive experience learning to drive with Ellisons and Paul H!
Very relaxed approach with a lot of trust, which really helps build confidence. Never once did I feel any pressure or stress. I always felt knowledge was shared when it was necessary and was never overwhelmed with anything I didn't need to know out of context, which made sure I built a genuine understanding that can be applied when I'm now driving independently.
One of the best lessons was the warm up before test day, Paul H took a lot of care is just making sure I wasn't feeling too anxious and did everything at my pace, while also making sure to introduce the bits that were needed to prepare me.
Managed to pass 1st time, with zero faults, with 23.5 hours of lessons, so I think that says all you need to know about how effective and positive the lessons with Paul were!

I honestly couldn’t recommend Kate enough! She has been such a brilliant driving instructor and has helped me build my confidence so much throughout my lessons. She’s always been patient, supportive and reassuring, even when I’ve been nervous or doubted myself. She knows what I’m capable of and has always encouraged me to believe in myself. I passed my driving test first time with only two faults. If you’re looking for an instructor who genuinely cares about you and your success I would 10000% recommend Kate!

I highly recommend learning automatic with Wayne.
I started automatic driving lessons with Wayne in August 2026, and I passed today first time! Wayne is an amazing teacher and very supportive, especially as I was previously an anxious driver.

Great driving school and the app is really useful.

I'm over the moon with Ellison's , brilliant driving school, I can't believe I've got my category c in a very short space of time with Jason and Andy as instructors they both really helped simplify everything, thanks again everyone at Ellison's I enjoyed the whole course and would strongly recommend them to anyone considering going down the hgv career route 👍

Overall it was a good experience.
My driver John Ashfield was excellent. He teaches you how to drive properly, so the exam becomes just a formality.

My instructor was Wayne and he brought me out of my shell so much! I went from a nervous wreck to such a skilled driver. I am forever appreciative

Paul couldn’t have been better. He’s such a sound guy and makes the lessons really enjoyable. I started with him making many mistakes, he picked up on them all immediately and gave a detailed reasoning for them and how to fix them.

I have now passed with 0 minors and feel confident in my driving. Cheers Paul/Ellisons!

Stan took me through my driving test today and I couldn't have asked for a better instructor, Stan was always calm and collected. Stan made everything easily understandable, even relating to things on a personal level which helped massively.

I would recommend Stan to everyone wanting to have a nice chilled learning experience! Thank you again Stan!

I had the privileged of undergoing my training with Dan. He didn't just tell you to do something. You need to understand why you're doing it. Situations were analysed to know the causes and solutions to them. Drilling you, to make sure that you are good to go by covering everything you need to cover . His drilling was actually helpful. I passed today, being first attempt.

Kate has been a lovely, excellent but not so funny instructor who made me feel comfortable and more confident while driving enabling me to get a 1st time pass. Would recommend to anyone

Highly recommended! Steve allowed me to overcome my problems with driving. I had many lesson’s with lots of different instructors and never found the confidence to pass my test. However Steve managed to get me through with absolutely zero marks 😁 thanks everyone

Steve was an amazing instructor and really helped me feel confident being on the roads. Passed first time with his help today and couldn't be happier! Very knowledgeable and good at explaining everything, made me feel comfortable from the first lesson!

This review will be in two parts.

Firstly, Ellison's administration. Having made initial enquiries with a number of local driving schools I decided to opt for Ellisons. Telephone enquiries were met with polite and accommodating staff, my questions were dealt with promptly and correctly.

Having signed up with Ellisons I received a link to a driving teaching progress tracker and access to driving theory test questions and driving risk awareness training videos. I was also able to download the 'Total Drive' app for my smartphone (very useful as it also tracks your progress and send alert reminders for your lessons).

Ellisons appointed me a driving instructor based upon the type of car I wish to learn in, my geographical location, age and experience.

Ellisons have made the whole process of learning to drive easy, comfortable and flawless.

I would, without doubt, recommend Ellisons to anyone wishing to start to learn to drive.

Secondly, the driving instructor, Mr. John Ashfield.

I have nothing but praise for John. He took a very nervous learner and rapidly built my confidence and skills as the lessons progressed. John has a unique skill at recognising just how hard to encourage and push his student. John was very flexible with lesson dates and times.

Having worked as a trainer in a clinical setting myself it is incredibly pleasing to meet an instructor who can instantly gauge the level of teaching, use of language and level of independence to impart to his student during the driving lessons.

I have now passed my test (thanks to the confidence placed in me by John). Ironically I shall miss my lessons with John as I wholeheartedly looked forward to spending the time learning and driving with him.

John is the epitome of professionalism and a credit to Ellisons.

Andy made me feel so at ease since the very beginning. He noticed I was lacking a lot of confidence due to past experience and helped me grow the confidence back. He’s by far the best instructor that I’ve had! He had a lot of faith in me even when I didn’t and I couldn’t be more grateful for having him push me and challenge me. Thank you Andy!!

Been with Sam since November, super patient with mistakes, gave clear instructions on how to progress my skill and just passed today. Many thanks you guys
