Full Payment Accepted for an Already-Sold Bike — Poor Communication and Delayed Refund

On 20 July 2026, I paid a €100 reservation deposit and then the remaining €2,124 for a Trek Checkpoint SLR 7 (Order #RTIWARUKO) — €2,224 in total.

Only after both payments had been accepted was I informed that the bicycle had already been sold several days earlier and had remained available on the website because of a system error. Accepting both a reservation and the full remaining payment for a bicycle that was no longer available is unacceptable.

I then spent several days discussing possible alternatives. However, the offers presented as a resolution were limited only by the shop’s normal available margin, with no meaningful compensation for the failed transaction and the inconvenience caused.

After I declined the alternatives and requested a full refund, communication became vague. I was repeatedly told that the refund would be requested from the accounting department, but I received no actual Stripe refund confirmations or a clear processing date despite asking for them.

The full €2,224 eventually reached my account on 29 July 2026, nine days after the original payment. I received no WhatsApp message or other confirmation from Bike Ocasión to inform me that the refund had finally been processed.

I am glad that the money was eventually returned in full, but the inventory control, handling of the transaction and subsequent communication were far below the standard I would expect when dealing with such a substantial payment. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Bike Ocasión.

Very disappointing experience

Very disappointing experience from start to finish.

Unfortunately, it was one unprofessional mistake after another. All communication was handled through their WhatsApp.

It started with incorrect information about the bike. They initially claimed the specification on their website was wrong, but after I pointed out that the photos clearly showed otherwise and asked them to check again, they confirmed that the bike actually did have the component in question. Mistakes can happen, although I would expect much better attention to detail from a professional bike shop.

Based on that confirmation, I placed and paid for my order. They confirmed everything by email and also sent me a WhatsApp message saying they would do everything possible to ship the bike as quickly as possible.

The following day, I received a notification that the bike was being prepared for dispatch. Shortly afterwards, they sent another message saying they were sorry, but they no longer had the bike because it had been sold to someone else. According to them, it was “a system error.” Another mistake—again, these things can happen, but this was already the second major error.

They then tried to offer me a completely different bike as a replacement. I would expect professionals to suggest something comparable, not a racing road bike instead of an endurance bike.

At that point, I requested a full refund. Despite all of their mistakes, they have continued to hold my money. It has now been over 10 days, and I still have not received my refund, even though it is a significant amount of money. They do not respond to emails, and on WhatsApp I receive nothing but excuses.

I cannot recommend this shop. The combination of inaccurate information, poor inventory management, and the unacceptable delay in returning my money has been extremely frustrating.
