Ampere is not a bank

I opened an Ampere business account expecting it to provide a practical and reliable way of managing payments for my business. Unfortunately, my experience has been the complete opposite.

The biggest issue I have experienced is the constant holding and questioning of incoming payments.

As a business, I naturally receive payments from clients for work that has been agreed and carried out. However, on numerous occasions when a client has made a payment into my Ampere account, the funds have been held while I have been asked to explain what the payment relates to and provide supporting documentation, such as invoices.

I completely understand that financial institutions have compliance obligations and occasionally need to carry out checks. However, when this happens repeatedly with normal business transactions, it becomes extremely impractical.

A business account is supposed to help you operate your business efficiently. When you cannot confidently receive a payment from a client without wondering whether the money is going to be held and whether you will then have to provide further documentation before being able to access it, it defeats the purpose of having the account.

The situation became so frustrating that I eventually stopped using my Ampere account for approximately six months.

Recently, I decided to see whether things had improved. I transferred just £2 from my own personal bank account into my Ampere business account. Even this did not appear as I would normally expect a straightforward bank transfer to.

I have now also received requests for extensive information about my business.

Again, I have no issue whatsoever with legitimate compliance checks. I operate a genuine business and can provide invoices and supporting information where reasonably required. My issue is the frequency and manner in which transactions appear to be questioned or delayed.

For a business, cash flow is extremely important. Contractors and suppliers need paying, materials need purchasing and projects need to continue. Having legitimate client payments unexpectedly held can create unnecessary problems and makes it extremely difficult to rely on an account for day-to-day business banking.

After reading other customers’ experiences, I was surprised to see reviews describing very similar issues involving payments being held and requests for invoices or supporting documentation. It was disappointing to discover that my experience does not appear to be isolated.

Based purely on my own experience, I cannot currently recommend Ampere as a primary business account.

The platform itself may have useful features, but reliability and access to legitimate business funds are far more important to me. I need to know that when a customer pays an invoice, I can actually rely on receiving and using those funds without repeatedly having to justify ordinary transactions.

I would genuinely like Ampere to address this because the concept of the account is good. However, unless the approach to routine business payments has changed significantly, I personally would not feel comfortable using Ampere as the main account for my business again.

Forget this "Bank"

Forget this "Bank". it's not a bank - they question every transaction, even your staff payments. They want to see your staff payslips !! and it takes days to pay somebody because you need to send all supporting docs before Ampere releases the payment. And if they dont like transactions coming in - they send money back to your customers creating a reputational damage to your business. Open an account with a proper Bank - not this set up.

Also, when sending monay abro

VESTITI BUONI LTD – Funds withheld, account suspended!

Total lack of transparency. Ampere has suspended the VESTITI BUONI LTD account without any valid reason and is refusing to issue our refund. We have provided all documentation, yet they continue to hold our business capital hostage.

This is unacceptable for any business banking provider. If our funds are not returned immediately, we will be proceeding with a formal claim in court and reporting this to the financial regulators. Avoid this company if you value your cash flow.

I don’t ever leave reviews but this time I had to so please AVOID! You will regret not heeding my advice

Ampere is one of the most frustrating banks I’ve ever dealt with. Their customer service is useless — every call ends with “we’ll pass this to the relevant department,” which achieves nothing.

Every transaction is over-scrutinised, causing delays on both incoming and outgoing payments. Communication is poor, cooperation is non-existent, and resolving even simple issues feels impossible.

If you need a bank that actually works for its customers, look elsewhere. Ampere turns basic banking into a stressful, slow, and completely avoidable ordeal.

These need looking into by the FCA they break so many rules on a daily basis

Fake Company

Today I deposited £35 with Ampere in order to proceed with account activation.

Unfortunately, after the payment was made, I was informed that my application could not continue due to a residential address issue. When I requested a refund for the unused service, I was told that the amount would not be refunded.

I find this practice extremely disappointing and unfair. Payment was accepted even though the account could not be activated, and no service has been provided in return.

I strongly advise others to proceed with caution and to carefully review the terms before making any payment.

Genuinely awesome service!

I recently gave a 3-star review after a slight issue with a part I bought. Unexpectedly, I recieved a phone call from them, and after a bit of advice and "jiggery-pokery", all is now well. The problem was remedied promptly, clearly & politely over the phone, and they even threw-in a "good will gesture".
I cannot fault their service, and will always recommend Ampere to anyone looking for good quality e-bikes PLUS great customer care and after sales help.

Dear Alison,

Thank you for your review. It seems this feedback may have been intended for a different company, as we provide banking and payment services rather than e-bikes. That said, we’re glad to hear you had a positive experience and wish you all the best.

This is not a bank

This is not a bank. They are not a good outfit at all. Use Revolut Business or Wise instead. I found their compliance departments to be frankly rude and inconsiderate. And their customer service team unresponsive - in a world of 24/7 service - don’t have an issue on a Friday afternoon, they close down and aren’t back until Monday. Why bother with a small insignificant outfit when others are there 24/7.

Please stay away from this bank

Please stay away from this bank. They are not a regulated bank they are a payment provider therefore making it more difficult to conduct and business transactions. My advice would be to stick to all major retail banks for a business account as its easier to open too.

We have to keep calling and emailing as if we don’t know what we are doing !!!!

Definitely the worst experience ever…

Definitely the worst experience ever had with a Bank. Already looking to close this account and have opened a new one but problems doesn’t stop with the funds being transferred strictly for business purposes. Even funds from this bank to a newly opened account have been frozen. Constant bargaining for company’s money to even pay for staff training or salaries. Millions of questions regarding payments does not matter the amount. I was looking to make this my permanent business account and use it for everything and everyday business expenses but due to the constant delay and pressure from customers there is no choice but to go elsewhere, service and excuses why transfers are pending is just unacceptable, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I understand a bank has to do their due diligence and implement the security checks on transactions, but when you provide people with an option to upload the document when doing the transfer, such as Invoice you are paying for, and still have the funds frozen just to get the request to provide the documents for that transfer????
It's time consuming just to verify every outgoing payment, but they are happy to keep your money in the account just don’t let you use it. Having to provide documents for each transaction to the compliance team, and having to prove that it is used for the business purpose otherwise they will not release the payments. This results in such delays and you have to constantly respond to the compliance team with sufficient documentation simply for your basic payments. I don't see how any business can continue to work with customers like this to grow, this bank just leaves you with unhappy customer and clients. This bank has huge potential but unfortunately are not delivering to the level of a Bank.

DO NOT USE

AVOID

We set our business account with Ampere. It took them about a month to verify all the 2 other directors accounts.

No multiple bank cards for each director, no Apple Pay, & most importantly we had dozens of transactions frozen when trying to withdraw our money from the account to the directors. Having to ring up multiple times to get the money moved.

Was so much hassle we've taken our business elsewhere.

Terrible first time experience

How can a bank promise lightening speed transactions and UK faster payment and not fulfil without reason?

I have a business bank account and I have made a payment to myself in order to pay my supplier, and the only reason I’ve had to pay it to myself is because the card doesn’t work online ! Another failed promise.

This is incredibly distressing and distasteful,

When it came to paying to verify their account they would call me to remind me for payment however now that I try to reach them it just doesn’t go through, the calls are ringing out to the point of declines , how as a bank is there not an operative available to customers ?

This makes so sense, due to this I would not recommend anyone banks with them once resolved I am taking my money out and closing the account! It’s terrible.

I think this has to be one of the first…

I think this has to be one of the first reviews I’ve written due to how I’ve been treated whilst trying to open an account with ampere. I provided all the necessary documentation and they have asked me to provide a dbs check (which I did & is clear) then they asked the source of my funds which I also provided. Then they started asking in formation about the other company which is irrelevant to the company I am opening an account for. After providing everything possible they have said they plan to review the account for 2 weeks. Surely it doesn’t take 2 weeks to open an account, especially online, the customer service is terrible. Out of all the times I’ve opened an online business account this has to be the worst, customer service is terrible! and they take days to reply to an email especially when they ask for something and provide it straight away.

0 stars. Worst company I have ever dealt with. They are just a big SCAM. Do not bank with them if you want to keep your businesses running and money safe.

They have locked me out of my account for over a month nearly 2 and won’t give me access to my funds. All my customers are now complaining and they have ruined everything for me and my business.

STAY CLEAR.
