Can this cash-rich tech leader turn policy tailwinds and undervaluation into outsized returns?

There are no global credit risk features. I’ve seen this pattern repeat again and again: a feature with strong predictive power in one market falls completely flat in another. Sometimes it even hurts model performance. A Lazada registration might be highly informative for a Malaysian applicant. For a borrower in Brazil? Useless. Why features don’t travel: - Countries sit at very different stages of digital maturity - Customer behavior varies wildly - channels, shopping habits, payment patterns, even browsing rhythms - Regulations define what data you’re even allowed to touch The mistake I see most often: Teams build a model that works beautifully in Market A… then ship the same feature set to Market B without proper local backtesting. The result? Disappointing at best. Harmful at worst. Gini coefficients don’t cross borders. What actually works: - Local backtesting of every feature in every market - Building feature sets from the ground up based on what’s predictive there - Accepting that feature sets are market-specific by design There are no “good” or “bad” features. Only features that work in a given market. And those that shouldn’t leave the lab. Curious to hear: Have you ever seen a “proven” feature fail spectacularly in a new geography? Or the opposite - a local feature outperform expectations?

Supabase, a San Francisco-based database management startup, is in talks with Singapore’s GIC to lead a roughly $500 million funding round at a $10 billion valuation, double what it raised at last fall and five times its $2 billion valuation from a year ago. The company has benefited directly from the AI coding boom, as vibe coding platforms like Cursor and Lovable need databases to support the apps their users build, driving Supabase’s annualized revenue from $20 million to roughly $70 million between mid-2024 and mid-2025.
