In a key milestone for green port development, Xiamen has successfully completed its first bonded LNG bunkering operation for an international vessel. This achievement officially places Xiamen among the select few Chinese ports with this capability and is a vital part of its "Green Xiamen Bay" initiative. By adding bonded LNG to its existing biofuel services, the port has filled a critical gap in its clean energy offerings, establishing a multi-layered green service system of "biofuel + LNG" that significantly enhances its competitiveness in international shipping. As international pressure mounts for the maritime industry to decarbonize, major ports are transforming into integrated clean energy hubs. Xiamen's entry into this elite group directly supports the creation of green shipping corridors, a key topic in recent industry news, where fuel availability dictates trade route viability. This development is a powerful example of the sustainable fuel evolution happening across CBL's network, which includes 13 of the world's top 15 ports including Xiamen. FDI frame work , subsidy and infra support- A perspective 1. #HDHyundai announcemnet of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (#HDKSOE)) greenfield shipyard in Thoothukudi, TN, is this truly a validation of the government's strategic focus on global shipbuilding or is it the MNCs trying to live on the subsidy. Timeline and Capacity (3.5–4 million GT by 2030) 2. The capacity of 3.5–4 million GT annually is an incredibly high target. Hyundai is a global leader, and would need to aggressively pursue to build a shipyard of this scale within 4–5 years (by 2030) Vessel Output (50vessels/annum): 3. Achieving 50 #vesselsperannum (roughly 1 ship per week) would make this one of the most productive yards in the world. While HD Hyundai is a massive global player, such volume depends on the type of vessels (tankers vs. container ships) and the efficiency of the domestic supply chain, which will need time to develop 4. Revenue Assumptions 1- ($4.0 billion annually): 50 ships at an average of $80 million per ship is $4.0 billion. While a $4B investment for $4.0B annual revenue (a 1:1 ratio) is a solid business case, this depends on securing high-value contracts (like LNG carriers or large container ships) which are notoriously competitive. 5. Equity Structure (MDF 20–25%, TN Gov 10–12%, Total 30–37%):  This is cosnidered assumptive at this stage. The project cost is mentioned in reports as $2 billion to $4 billion. Specific equity percentages for the #MaritimeDevelopmentFund (MDF) and Tamil Nadu state government (for land/infrastructure) are not yet officially finalized, although public-private partnerships are expected. 5. "Subsidy Effect" (45–47% of project cost) GOI is pushing for competitive shipbuilding with a new ₹18,090 crore ($2.1B+ USD) financial assistance policy. Total government support, including land, tax holidays, and direct financial assistance for ship construction (ranging from 15–30% of ship cost), could indeed create a massive "subsidy effect". 6. Revenue Assumptions - Profit vs. Subsidy Coverage:  Calculation based on Annual Build of 36 ships @ $80 million each Total Annual Output: $2.88 billion (36 ships × $80M). RMS Output (66% Capacity): ~$1.9 billion per year. Government Incentive Value: ~$1.8 billion to $2 billion (upfront land/infrastructure + construction subsidies). Crystal Gazing The business will "give back" the initial government incentive through tax revenue, ancillary industry growth, and employment-related economic activity within approximately 1.5 to 2.5 years of reaching 66% operational output. #POSCO is in discussions with the Tamil Nadu government to set up a steel plant alongside the HD Hyundai shipyard in Thoothukudi to serve as a vendor The project would be the cornerstone of India becoming a global shipbuilding hub
