Getting close to paying a loan off. Went to check in the portal and no portal. Site can't be reached. Checked online and saw the reviews on Trustpilot. Terrible, no communication to say they would be removing this service. I can only assume there has been a data breach at some point and failed to advise any authority or customer.
Appalling.

I applied for a Hastings Direct personal loan through Experian, where I was shown as pre-approved. Based on this, I continued with the application.

After completing the application, I was shown a message saying “Congratulations, you’ve been accepted.” I therefore reasonably believed the loan had been approved.

I was then shocked to receive an email from Hastings saying they could not accept my application.

This is extremely frustrating. I would not have proceeded if I had known I could be rejected after being shown as pre-approved and then being told I had been accepted. I am also concerned about the hard credit search and the potential impact on my credit file.

I have now submitted a formal complaint asking Hastings to explain exactly what happened, confirm what credit searches were carried out, and consider compensation for the inconvenience and any unnecessary impact on my credit profile.

If the matter is not resolved satisfactorily, I will consider referring my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Customers should not be told “Congratulations, you’ve been accepted” and then later receive a rejection without a proper explanation.

The customer portal is disabled; there is no way to check the balance or make overpayments! Most questions went unanswered during the phone call.

Removed online portal which was a great thing so now you’ve got to do everything over the phone which takes way too long. Great when i first took out a loan with them but just been going downhill over the last 12month or so

Getting very worried now, as tried to log in several times, to be met with a blank screen.
Cannot see my payments or how much I have left to pay.
Very poor customer service.
May have to get solicitor onto this, as I could have already paid it off and they are still taking money

They have really went downhill. First of all, they closed the online portal so you can’t see your statement or balances and you can’t overpay. Everything is done over the phone. Why? It’s so backwards. I’m not sure if this is done to repel people from paying early. So you have to wait on the phone to get this sorted. They also emailed me a statement. I checked it and I overpaid one month and they charged me interest on that overpayment! In the previous months, the overpayment just paid down the principal. I called them about this but it didn’t sound like they understood it either. They said it was a way to calculate the interest, but my interest payments will go down. (It would’ve gone down regardless because the interest is calculated on the principal). Another problem was that my statement said one number and I got an email with a higher figure that I owe! Of course, I can’t see it because there’s no online portal. So, I called up, but still waiting for the email. Whoever made the decision to get rid of the online portal should be fired.

Needed to move my D debit and didn’t have my loan refunded number , spoke to a lovely lady who just asked a few security questions , found my loan and moved the date , smoothest interaction I’ve ever had with a company . Very impressed

If there was less than 1 star I would add it.

Poor customer service didn’t come back to me had to chase.

They did a soft search on me this last April. Never heard of them, never dealt with them, never interacted, never received or had a contract signed or owned them anything. I suspect they check on people's credit score in order to issue fake loans fraudulently. The government should look on this, because I am now passing it on a team of YouTubers. It's time to dismantle it.

Pre-approved and applied on Thursday. Accepted and approved first thing friday. Confirmation then came through on the Monday and its now tuesday evening and still no funds.

Never known a loan process to take so long, its 2026 for god sake the money should have been in my account on friday!

The worst company for getting out loans. They dont help at all even when you pay them for example if you are due to pay at end of the month and you pay on the 1st. They will still go ahead and register you as missed payment on credit file even though you have paid. This is ridiculous and dont help out all they do is spoil credit files

I have requested to pay my loan off early with Hastings. I have been an excellent customer always paying on time and never missing a payment, When I spoke to customer services because of the high amount to pay off the loan (an extra £120) I was told this was because of the amount they would be loosing in interest by me paying off early and all the money I would be saving!!! Then when I complained they said they had the figures wrong and apologised and it was over £130 on top of what I owed!!
I have never known a company to charge extra because of what they would loose out on. They have send me £30 for my trouble. Only another £100 to pay then?

Took over 5 phone calls to pay the loan off I Waited over 40 mins on the last one to try and pay my loan off early also couldn’t log in online just kept coming up with my old loan which is closed so couldn’t pay it online … probably the worst customer service I’ve experienced wouldn’t use again

Waste of time! Applied on Monday as was pre approved and then got rejected on Friday after taking all my personal information. No reason was mentioned for rejection. Applied through Tesco the same same day and got funds straight in the bank account within 2 hours and even with better lower rate!

Paid all my loan payments at least a week before every single direct debit. This week, the direct debit obviously hadn't updated and took the payment as well as my online payment.
Called customer service to request one of the payments back as £820 is a lot of money. They first tried to say i wasn't up to date with payments so this was going towards my missed payment, I then went through every transaction and they then agreed that the payment wasn't applied to my account properly. Although before it is given back to me i have to wait for a call from the finance team, for what i dont know.

I will happily remove/edit this review if I get a satisfactory response soon from the finance team.
£820 at Christmas is not good.

Yeah, word of warning (something I wish I knew), takes up to 5 days to pay out. Never heard of such a long winded process - I was approved and signed all paperwork 2 days ago and funds won’t hit my account for another 2. Rubbish, all other companies pay out a lot quicker so if you need quick access to funds I wouldn’t bother.

Applied for a loan with them, all went fast and money received. Shortly after, I suffered an accident and was off sick for long term. Spoke with customer service which offered a payment holiday which I was grateful for. The worst decision as, next month, the report was already on my credit file, and next month as well which I didn't expected given that it was an agreement due to difficult circumstances. Anyway, as soon as I recovered financially, I settled the loan. Well..... this time they are not so quick to report the payment on my credit file and it still appears that I own them money. As per them will take several weeks for that to be updated but..... how in the world, as soon as I missed a payment, it was straight away ??? And why it's no report for 7th of June 2025 when I already paid half of the loan given that you report it monthly??
Now, and because of them, my credit score is under the floor ....
